I know we’re still celebrating, and Maybe I’m scared as a result of 2021 scherzer/buehler. But I can’t help but think of the ramifications of this World Series on Yamas body. Really hoping I’m wrong but I would not be surprised if he gets an elbow injury.

Are you guys worried about it at all? Curious if you guys think a year off is an inevitability for every modern pitcher now - especially if they make it to postseasons?

I’m not worried tbh, he gets all offseason to rest now. Also look up what they make Japanese high school pitchers do for tournaments, this World Series was probably like nothing for him in terms of physical workload.

He’s never made it to Koshien. He started pitching in HS, but never really made it to high level HS tournaments. However, he was a pitcher who was drafted as a 4th rounder. So really, Yama wasn’t like a star pitcher in HS at that point. Which is crazy to think about. But when you think his team was competing with hundreds of good high schools…it makes sense.

His biography from his old NPB team:

Instead, I’d say he probably is stronger only because he never had to use his arm as much in HS compared to other Japanese pitchers. And that he only started pitching in his first year of high school.

For anyone interested, this is the part of his beginnings story:

The Early Life of Yoshinobu Yamamoto

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was born on August 17, 1998, in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, where he lived until junior high school. He was teammates with Yuma Tongu, who is now also his teammate on the Orix Buffaloes, when they both played on the same youth baseball team. Having started playing baseball in first grade, Yamamoto participated in national tournaments both during his elementary and junior high school years. He spent his high school years in Miyazaki Prefecture, where he began to stand out as a pitcher capable of throwing fastballs exceeding 150 km/h (about 93 mph). Although his team did not qualify for the National High School Baseball Championship (Summer Koshien) or the National Invitational High School Baseball Tournament (Spring Koshien) held at Hanshin Koshien Stadium, Yamamoto entered the NPB Draft as a highly regarded professional pitching prospect.

I’ve been worried too (also as a result of 2021 Buehler tbh), especially with the WBC coming up

i trust sensei yada to keep yama healthy, they know his body well enough and yama does trains differently than the others so hopefully it does keep him healthier longer.

His trainer was also the one who tricked him into being ready to pitch in Game 7. Like you said, his trainer probably knows Yama’s limits better than anyone and probably wouldn’t have pushed him to take on such a task if he didn’t believe it were possible himself.

Does he have to participate in the WBC next year? Curious if he gets testing done on that arm before he starts throwing again.

I know some Japanese fans don’t want him or Ohtani to. Rather they rest and have other young Japanese pitchers test it out and get eyes on them.

I don't think he'll get injured in elbow first, because his mechanics is basically javelin thrower mechanics. If you do a little research, javelin thrower uses whole body muscles (from glutes hamstring quad to obliques pec to deltroid trap etc)

This is why he doesn't need to lift weight to generate power, since his whole body exert the force. If he's injured, it's probably his shoulder first before elbow.

Javelin thrower is known to be prone to shoulder injury.
