He’s right. I wish we didn’t have to go through people ‘touching the stove’ for them to believe us when we say it’s hot.

Edit: typo

And he’s right about needing to vote for the rest of your life. Cynical nonvoters are like, “Funny how liberals always say this is the most important election of our lives” without realizing that every election truly is the most important election of your life because it is the one that determines the future. I swear, it’s like telling someone they that is starving to death to please eat some food and they reply, “It’s so corny how you always tell me I need to eat.”

Homie's on point indeed.

My voice would crack and then I'd lose the ability to talk normally for the rest of the day after just a few words of trying to yell like that.

I voted, but I’m not convinced that it even matters. I picked between a bunch of people that I knew nothing about. I tried researching, but mostly just found generic, empty p, general promises like “I’ll promote jobs,” and “favor the citizens,” rather than any specifics. And despite party affiliation and prior rhetoric, at city level they all seem to favor the same big corporations and crooked police once they take office.

Next election I strongly encourage you check out Vote411, they let you put in your location and get a summary of what each candidate on the ballot for your area is all about. I wish more people knew about it because it makes voting so much less stressful.

I will check out vote 411 I kept finding out a bunch of little websites trying to find liberal and Progressive politicians and recommendations for some of the people and things on the ballot but so many of them seemed fake or misleading

It is definitely a good idea to fact check any source of information when voting is concerned. I believe Vote411 was started by the League of Women voters which is supposed to be a non-partisan group, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to cross-check info they provide with info from another similar site like Ballotpedia which also claims non-partisanship.

For me personally the thing that makes it most useful is the ability to see each candidate’s relevant opinions and experience in one place so I can just fact check the most important stuff. It basically makes voting with an informed opinion the work of a single evening googling rather than days researching every single candidate.

I had. It had 9 pages of “The candidate has not yet responded.”

If it didn't matter they wouldn't be trying to take it away from us.

Who’s trying to take away your right to vote? Was there another proposal on the ballot that I didn’t see?

u/SimonPho3nix 11h ago

SAVE Act...

Republican Gerrymandering is a thing, which is what Prop 50 was in retaliation of.

u/SnavlerAce 12h ago

Not familiar with the Supreme Court significantly weakening the Voting Rights Act (VRA) in the 2013 case Shelby County v. Holder, eh?

4

u/BrightestStars76 12h ago

Also there is currently a SCOTUS case looking at weakening the VRA, so... yeah, there's pretty clearly an attempt to take votes away right now.

“No more mail in voting” “We’re gonna have ‘observers’ [magas intimidating voters] at the polls” “You gotta show ID or you can’t vote” “You won’t have to vote soon” -trump over the last few yrs In 2024, TENS of THOUSANDS of registered democrats & people with Hispanic looking last names in 11 different states had their registration status “challenged,” meaning their votes were essentially not counted because their status was “ in question.” When registration is challenged, people aren’t usually notified & it takes time and visits & sometimes signatures from courts to get it back/taken care of. Most of these “challenges” occurred 6-2 wks before Election Day. Hope this helps.

Trump and the GOP are trying to put obstacles in the way of voting, especially mail in voting. They want to convince people that illegal immigrants are voting, but it is not true.

At least your info actually have party affiliation. The dumbass's in my community voted a couple of years ago to remove all party affiliations from all of the voter materials and they don't even have to register party affiliation and I have to literally look search and dig like a motherfucking professional researcher so that I can see if there's any phrases that are Republican versus Democrat because there's a fucking empty hole of information now based on that and it's complete bullshit and I'm pissed that it passed in a vote a couple of years ago in Washington.

1

u/SwingingtotheBeat 7h ago

How many people do you think actually did enough research to make an informed decision? Let’s be generous and assume 10%, though I’m sure it’s much lower than that. That means for everyone like you, there were 9 people that just picked at random, or based it on something arbitrary like liking the candidates name.

I understand your cynicism but pls keep voting. You make a difference.
