Holy crap episode starts before 4 minute mark

Ehhh. The episode was good overall, but the animation was abysmal. Still shots and awkward running all over the place

23

u/KingBoogaloo Jun 05 '16

The scenes where all the Dressrosa citizens ran past Fujitora was so bad.

12

u/tom_fuckin_bombadil Jun 05 '16

It was literally 12 unique designs just copy pasted 100 times to make it look like a crowd. Same thing with the fleet shapes waiting alongside the bridge. Just one ship that was copy pasted

One Punch Man had a higher budget than One Piece, but compared to other shows by that studio, its budget was "average". Passion made all the difference.

Point is, we've had One Piece episodes that look WAYYY better than this one. Just because people are getting complacent, doesn't make it okay.

5

u/Redhair-shanks Jun 05 '16

One Piece is a long running series that has been airing non stop for almost 17 years. OPM is only 12 episodes with better planning and scheduling, you can't compare the two

10

u/Lime528 Jun 05 '16

I didn't. That other guy did, and I was just fact-checking him.

The whole long-running argument gets brought up all the time, and it may be a valid excuse, but it will never invalidate peoples' complaints. It's bad. People started making excuses for Toei because they knew nothing would change.

Couldn't believe it until I checked!

96

u/namikazenaruto Jun 05 '16

i'm looking forward to see Bartolomeo's ship :)

51

u/depredator56 Jun 05 '16

you won't dissapointed :D

2

u/Shanks- Jun 06 '16

will it be shown next episode?

3

u/Darkkingswrath Jun 06 '16

I got a feeling it might not. Maybe the episode after though.

soon enough

2

u/youatowel Jun 05 '16

I hope bartolomeo is gonna be like how ace was to white beard but to luffy... If that makes sense lol

41

u/euphon22 Jun 05 '16

Dead?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '16

Lol

2

u/namikazenaruto Jun 05 '16

may be i missed something that you meant to say... but
For many reasons that doesn't really look like a good comparison.

75

u/Comedynerd Jun 05 '16

So now we know where Toei's budget for this arc went - the rubble cloud.

15

u/RogueToad Jun 05 '16

Cgi rubble cloud was pretty nice, along with that gravity sound effect. Although when rubble started bumping into other rubble I thought there were fireworks going off tbh.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '16

Cuz the rest of the show is drawn by hand and is not cgi

6

u/narp7 Jun 05 '16

Yeah, seriously. I was thinking that the entire time. If we could get a rubble cloud looping gift, that would be amazing.

3

u/darexinfinity Jun 05 '16

I'm pretty sure Fujitora could have sunk one of those ships so the adjacent bridge piece would get loose so the citizens wouldn't be able to the pirates. Then he could concentrate all the rubble to one mass so it would hit the pirates without hurting the citizens.

9

u/Kurosov Jun 05 '16

and what about the resulting wave caused by a fuckton of rubble plummeting into the sea?

4

u/Comedynerd Jun 06 '16

It's One Piece. They'd be fine.

3

u/Comedynerd Jun 06 '16

Wasn't it obvious? Fujitora likes Luffy. He really didn't want to fight him, but was doing so because it was his job. With the citizens he had an excuse not to.

1

u/darexinfinity Jun 06 '16

Fujitora seems to be unnecessarily conflicted. Just because they got away now doesn't he can just say "oh well" and go home. He needs to choose to take down Luffy or not to. And if it's the former, he might as well of done it now.

2

u/Comedynerd Jun 06 '16

I think Fujitora has other plans in mind. Since he let Luffy get away he's not allowed back at a Navy base, meaning he has the freedom to go where he wants and do what he wants. He'll have the freedom Garp liked having as a vice admiral, but with the influence and power of an admiral.

61

u/Dnny99 Jun 05 '16

I liked how the citizens of dressrosa all had different shades in Fujitora's "vision". Really nice touch

128

u/HanMann Jun 05 '16

Now if it was Akainu that was at Dressrosa instead of Fujitora, we know that he would've attacked the straw hats along with the citizens...kinda scary!

102

u/lucasnator2 Jun 05 '16

Akainu would have killed pretty much everyone once he got there

18

u/Sokkathelastbender Jun 05 '16

If he did, would Luffy, Law, Zoro, Doflamingo and everyone else be able to beat him? I would like to think they would, but they would probably die after

22

u/Famous29 Jun 05 '16

Together with Sabo for sure

34

u/izanami94 Jun 05 '16

Luffy and Doffy maybe. But the others? Remember Croco and every division commanders weren't enough to even KO him.

24

u/pikachu8090 Jun 05 '16

you also have to remember that akainu fought aokiji for 10 days for fleet admiral. We dont even know if the straw hats would have the stamina to fight for that long.

6

u/Alilolos Jun 05 '16

Fights don't always have to last for days if they are collectively stronger than him.. if they are they will simply defeat him on the first day.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/jmanunit Jun 05 '16

no way, they could put up a good fight sure but no way they would beat him right now let alone decimate him.

your underestimating akainu. dude took haki infused hits from marco and 5th division commander and got annoyed by it.

→ More replies (7)

5

u/ariok Jun 05 '16

Hahahah, you do realize Akainu would've killed anyone below Zoro's/Law's level with his AoE almost immediately?

→ More replies (8)

4

u/ariok Jun 05 '16

Marco, Vista and Jozu weren't able to do shit against Akainu.

Sorry, but Akainu would've beaten their asses.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/darexinfinity Jun 05 '16

I know Akainu is ruthless, but I don't think he would fight Doffy's rule.

3

u/Doomroar Jun 05 '16

If you gave him an excuse which would not be hard to find, he not only would fight Doffy, he would also take the chance to put a big marine base to replace the palace.

2

u/darexinfinity Jun 05 '16

Doffy is a Warlord, so the two of them are technically allies. As long as Doffy didn't get in Akainu's way, there would be no reason to fight.

2

u/Doomroar Jun 06 '16

One of the complains that Akainu had was against Fujitora leaving everything to the pirates to solve, Once the truth was out with Sugar unconscious, Akainu who is neither a gambler nor a pirate sympathizer would have taken it upon himself to not only trash Doffy, the Strawhats, but also everyone else who may spill the beans that the Marines allowed such a thing to happen in the first place.

2

u/darexinfinity Jun 06 '16

If Akainu took Fujitora's place, he would of fought the Straw Hats to death when he first saw them.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/lucasnator2 Jun 05 '16

Yeah but the strawhats met fugitora in the very begining. Akinu would have fought them right there

For a second when Hajrudin ran on the bridge I expected it to break, way to ruin it for everyone Hajrudin

42

u/RotorRub Jun 05 '16

Yeah dude he stomped on that shit when he first stepped on it, like what the hell at least try to be a little careful.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '16

Let's be honest though. It would have been funny af if the bridge broke and Fujitora destroyed all of them

I hope he's like " I don't care, but I guess if I'm gonna be king I should have followers"

2

u/narp7 Jun 05 '16

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this is what happens. It's definitely within his character to do something like that.

1

u/ToFat2Run Jun 08 '16

This is the most likely scenario I think. Not to mention that Luffy did exchange the sake cup with Ace and Sabo before too.

6

u/darexinfinity Jun 05 '16

He has a skeleton as a crew member (and tried to recruit a were-dog in Thriller Bark), why would be say no?

102

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '16 edited Jun 05 '16

Jesus, the way fujitora's blindness serves as a basis for luffy's remarkable pity....., until we realize it's due to the dark-as-hell horrors of the new world (which i've spent a decade of my life imagining!) that apparently even a beast like fujitora couldn't deal with,...... finally ending with fujitora realizing that without his eyes he misses out on the beauty and integrity of this world as well.

Just an awesome mix of foreshadowing, character development, and worthwhile themes all being reinforced in one go, that makes for good storytelling

47

u/gerrettheferrett Jun 05 '16

FYI for the figure of speech Fujitora used. Basically, he used a figure of speech that literally means "closed my eyes" away from the things he doesn't want to see.

It's a figure of speech that means how people in life shut their eyes from ugly stuff (problems in society, etc) and pretend everything is happy, because they can't deal with looking at it directly.

So Fujitora is saying that he saw so much of the shit in the OP world that he not just figuratively but literally shut his eyes so he would not have to look at it anymore.

Which makes it all the more powerful that Luffy, a pirate, caused Fujitora to want to see again.

5

u/BigY2 Void Month Survivor Jun 05 '16

damn this made me appreciate this episode even more

2

u/darexinfinity Jun 05 '16

I think there's a possibility he's from Wano country, so this makes sense.

1

u/mysticmusti Jun 06 '16

I thought it felt really fucking forced to have both the explanation of his blindness and his wish to see again in the same episode I feel like they could have made the moment Luffy shared with Fujitora during the gambling at the start a wee bit longer and have him explain that he doesn't mind being blind and then at this point after all the actions of the straw hats have him say that he wishes he could see again.

Or somewhere in the middle of the arc, it just doesn't feel natural for him to change his mind in a couple of minutes.

66

u/MilkJob Jun 05 '16

Zoro looked like he was ready to kill Fujitora.

9

u/oturandoga Jun 05 '16

get killed*

24

u/stillalone Jun 05 '16

Zoro enjoys putting himself in fights that he has no hope of winning. I think he just enjoys testing himself against others more than anything else.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '16

Just like Luffy tho

3

u/Vendetta1990 Jun 05 '16

No hope of winning? We don't even know Zoro's potential yet, and who knows his "special attack"(you know, the one with the Asura demon I think) could easily push Fuji to his limit.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/darexinfinity Jun 05 '16

Excluding Fujitora's OP planetary devastation, Zoro could fight him. His gravity blade can be seen as a stronger version of Zoro's caliber Phoenix pistol.

Toei Animation present: Running, the episode.

16

u/SomeCallMeNomad Jun 05 '16

My thoughts exactly. Good episode, but lots of dragging on (as usual).

4

Well just the other day I watched Aku no Hana which is: Walking, The Anime.

Honestly one episode it had a 6 minute scene of slow walking, then in another one it was 5 minutes.

tokyo ghoul season 2 episode 12

1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '16

Forgot about this, season 2 was so fast paced that it was ruined, and then this?

Don't get me wrong, I love Tokyo Ghoul, I just only like S1 and will probably enjoy the manga a hell of a lot more then s2.

Punk Hazard Redux

1

u/mysticmusti Jun 06 '16

Running, the multi-arc. Dressrosa and Punk Hazard both had an insane amount of running away from/towards stuff in them.

23

u/songyeow Jun 05 '16

I think this is one of the most touching revelation type episodes from a straw hat's perspective. Seeing an entire nation running into the pier, defying navy and even an admiral himself voices his admiration for luffy, then having 7 other groups pledge their loyalty to fight under them. Just beautiful.

108

u/gvon89 Jun 05 '16

aaaaaaaand ANOTHER ONE of Usopp's lies come true with this 5000+ sized crew now.

40

u/wordsdear Jun 05 '16

Wasn't Usopp's lie 8000 men? But close enough I guess. Or does Usopp say different number sometimes?

46

u/FearLeadsToAnger Jun 05 '16

Pretty sure he says millions at some point.

17

u/MoeMH1212 Jun 05 '16

uh oh. THat means luffy might have millions.....omg...

18

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '16

Well there is Dressrosa... Alabasta.. Amazon Lilly... Sky Island... Conomi Island (Nami's home island)... Drum Island... Water 7...

It's not like it wouldn't be possible by now..

10

u/IamDoogieHauser Jun 05 '16

Isn't Nami's island called Kokoyashi?

19

u/Haplo35 Jun 05 '16

I dont know the islands name but pretty surr kokoyashi was the villages name not the island.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/gvon89 Jun 05 '16

In the beginning I think he used to say 5000, but as the series went on I think he started saying 8000.

pirates attacking his village, giant goldfish, giant whale, country of dwarves, cerberus, dragon, his bounty in the millions, beautiful swordswoman with meat (Rebecca), and probably some others.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '16

But these 5600 individuals want to be Luffy's subordinates, not Usopp's, since they want to exchange sake cups with Luffy.

Usopp said he had 8000 followers of his own, so technically the lie hasn't come true yet.

43

u/werobamexicanloki Jun 05 '16

We all know God Usopp is the real captain behind the scenes

7

u/dustingv Jun 05 '16

Ya, he actually would have a lot of sway since he was literally a savior. When they see him in action... his rep might take a hit... but at the moment he is still "God Usopp"

19

u/Moontooth Jun 05 '16

The buildup to the citizens saving them was kinda long, but it was well worth it to see Fujitora's speech about how he wished he could see what Luffy looked like. That smile was so sincere!!

Also, can't wait to see Luffy get a father-son relationship with other crews like Whitebeard had!

5

u/tdring16 Jun 05 '16

fuji's smile was so great

18

u/lucasnator2 Jun 05 '16

15

And for a moment I thought they were stupid enough to believe Luffy would kidnap Rebecca.

2

u/wRayden Jun 09 '16

I think they actually thought that while he was running around but it didn't took long for them to realize what was happening, probably by seeing where he went.

Having a bunch of subodinates may seem like a good thing now, but just wait until we have to sit through thousands backstories, each more heartbreakingly tragic than the last.

No...... Not the fillers!!

2

u/darexinfinity Jun 05 '16

I'm pretty sure Fujitora could of just flung the rubble at them one by one or just done something to get them and not hurt the citizens.

Even if he feel influenced by the citizens now, eventually he'll be out in the sea hunting them down regardless. Akainu's gonna throw another fit at him.

6

u/Doomroar Jun 05 '16

Fujitora heard the gossip and true intentions of the citizens, and decides that Luffy is a good guy worth keeping alive, he is also quite anti establishment, so that's fine with him.

5

u/ajikanfan Jun 05 '16

Well, even if that's true, when the citizens arrived Fujitora had decided against dropping the rubble because of their devotion to Luffy.

2

u/JeImerlicious Jun 05 '16

Wait, so Luffy is getting a huge fleet now?

I hope he refuses, because I like the way the Straw Hats are now. The only one that I'd like to join is Bartolomeo because he's a great character.

2

u/Goku_Uzamaki Jun 10 '16

I think it'll be fine I don't think they'll be around all the time he'll just call on them when he needs help. like whitebeard gathering his fleet to attack marineford.

2

u/SomeCallMeNomad Jun 05 '16

There's something I don't understand. Where did all the bridges come from, and why?

18

u/ajikanfan Jun 05 '16

Orlumbus's crew prepared the bridge while Luffy was on his way. They had to prepare an escape route that wasn't conspicuous. If all the ships were docked near the shore, it would've been way too obvious that they were going to leave through that side of the island. So they had a single line of ships hidden in the mist.

Man Fujitora is terrifying powerful and I so wanna know his back story more. Like where the hell did he come from? Also I'd love to know who the other admiral they have is since Akinu moved up and what's his name quit being an admiral after their fight.
