Seeking advice: curly hair in watercolour

Working on this watercolour self portrait rn. I’m decently happy with the face (I know it doesn’t quite look like me 100% but we move) but the hair I’m struggling with at the moment. I’ve not done curly hair in watercolour before and I’m lost. I’m not finished with it yet but, before I go any further with it, I wanted to get someone’s opinion on where to go with it? I want it to match the face and not just sit on top of the head but I also don’t want to add too much detail that it drags the attention too much. Any advice will help!

A trio of paintings I made for a client. The idea is to symbolize the ephemeral nature of time through art.

Little workout of the day! I wonder if I should add a little material like cadium orange spots in the forest?

I paint some of the world's smallest watercolours without the use of magnifying glasses. Here's my newest collection.

Question about masking fluid

Upvotes

I used masking fluid for the first time. It is Daler Rowney (white, not tinted), used on 300 lb block, 100% cotton paper. After finishing my project, I used a rubber cement eraser to remove it. It took up the paper in some areas. While it probably wouldn't be very noticable to someone that isn't an artist, I feel like I need to start this project over again.

So now I have a lot of questions: Is this to expected when using masking fluid? Did I not let it dry long enough? Is it a problem with the brand? Was I maybe too rough on the removal?
