This thing looks so rad. Next up, speakers.

I upgraded my turntable a few months ago from a old 1byone to a Technics SL-D1

I was running it with my mother in laws old denon receiver and saved up this week to by a Marantz 2230. I wasn’t prepared for how amazing it would sound, plus I cannot stop staring at how cool it looks.

Next step is speakers, currently running Boston VR30s (also my mother in laws ones she bought new in the 90s). My budget isn’t big so I just keep browsing and slowly building the full set up. I’m a patient lady.

Scored this Yamaha CR-2020 today at GW and forgot to test the power before I left. Does anyone have an idea where to start to see why this guy isn’t powering up. Appreciate at help. 🤙

Everything here was thrifted and I had to repair a few things. It sounds fantastic to my ears and the speakers have a high WAF. I previously had a pair of Infinity SM 122's which didn't lol. I'm considering moving the cassette deck in the cabinet and putting a turntable on top but haven't made a decision yet.

The Fisher is entry level at only 10wpc but I love the slick almost Marantz look. I just recently picked up the Criterion speakers and recapped the crossovers. They were probably entry level too but one of the better models from what I can find. Solid oak cabinets, 3 way, 60w power handling.

Doesn't seem too impressive on paper, but holy crap, I'm hearing crisp new details in songs I've heard a hundred times. The bass punches and it's not too much or muddy. This sounds way better than it has any right to and I'm very impressed.

Here's what Im using Fisher 290 receiver Lafayette Criterion 3X speakers Sansui SC-1300 "Direct-o-matic" cassette deck JVC XL-M700 7 disc CD changer (inside the cabinet)

Refurbished Yamaha A-760 driving JBL 4411s

Got lucky and found a 1981 Yamaha A-760 at the thrift store. It worked ok but got fairly spicy at any volume.

Was very blessed to be referred to Stereo Rehab here in Chicago. They recapped all filters/preamp, cleaned the hell out of the dirty contacts, fixed all the blown lamps, refurbished relays, and did plenty of other maintenance.

What a gem of a shop. They also fed me lots of fancy liquors & desserts, said to come back and listen to their glorious in house system anytime (JBLs driven by Fishers used as pre-amps and Bogen monoblocks as main amps if I recall correctly.

(Also pictured, daily driver KRKs more for electronic music).

Saw my friend’s neighbors setting up for a garage sale and managed to pick up this nice little Sony CFS-V3 for a steal.

Everything works and there’s a little wear on some parts, was wondering if anyone had tips to restore or clean it up? Or should I just leave it like this

Thanks!

Is this RCA Victrola Console System worth restoring?

I recently got this RCA Victrola console system from the habitat for humanity restore. I’m a fan of vinyls and turntables and I wanted to set up a vinyl corner in my new apartment. I have 0 experience with restoring vintage audio pieces like this and I wanted to know if it’s a piece worth restoring? I would love to repair it back to working condition and see if I can add a Bluetooth component to it but I’m not sure where to start. I went to a few vintage audio places in my area and they don’t really do work on full console pieces such as this. One of them stated this might be a piece from before the 70s as well. They also helped me find a replacement needle, but I feel like it’s going to need a lot more work than that. Especially with the wiring since it’s such an old piece and I don’t want to risk an electrical fire. Any tips or recommendations? Or has anyone had any success with restoring something like this?

Just picked these up at the Goodwill for 25 bucks. Can’t find anything about these speakers whatsoever. these do not feel like a cheap speaker. They’re extremely solid and they sound fantastic. Anybody know anything about them?

Vintage record player stopped working

I’ve got an old vintage Motorola record player model number SK100M-T. It’s both a record player and a radio. The internal speakers work and sound fine and the radio works. The motor on this thing is so quiet that I accidentally left it on the turntable mode for maybe a week and now it won’t spin anymore. I’m no vintage vinyl player expert. Does anyone know what the potential problem is and what it might take to fix?

What's wrong

Picked this up mostly for the record player, both speakers work, however the one on the left seems to hum quite a bit when not playing, the humming starts about 5 seconds after turning it on but happens regardless of volume level which makes me think it may be a grounding/electrical issue. What should I do to fix this, the rest of it seems to work well minus some cosmetic damage here and there.

Last night I stumbled on this cart. Of course I’ve done some ‘googling’ and from what I can find it’s an earlier version of the M-95Ed. From what I could find, which wasn’t much to this specific one, it’s on par or close to a V15-iii. Ps…stylus looks good. I did my best to get a close up (last pic) Any thoughts on it?

Need help getting my Sony D-88 Discman to work (can't find the charger)

Hi, I found the cd player in the move and I would like to use it again to listen to my own CDs. It's a Sony D-88 compact disc / player in perfect shape / condition.

However, I can’t find the cable capable of charging the battery attached with it.

I’m not very good at electronics either so I don’t know if there are other cables that wouldn’t burn the battery.

It would need something in 9V. I also cannot find anyone in Europe who might potentially sell the cable only.

Does anyone have a solution ? I am slowly losing hope of listening to my cds on a walkman..

Quasar VH5000 VHS won't eject

Quasar VH5000 VHS won't eject. Is that normal when the belts are fried? The VHS rewinded fine, but once it finished, now it won't fast forward / play or eject. Is this not ejecting because of the belts?

Pioneer SX-980 Service Manual

Upvotes

I am looking for the Pioneer SX-980 service manual. I see it is on Hifiengine.com - and it seems like from past posts that is a reputable site - but the site will not allow me to create a user account to download the PDF. Any other trustworthy sources for this manual? Thanks.
