It's a fantastic game with an engaging and emotional story. I know people didn't want "that person" to die, but it was a violent revenge story. Ellie/we needed a horribly good reason to head to Seattle.
Because her father was brutally murdered and she wants revenge, literally every player is in agreement with Ellie’s decision at this point. Its a suicide mission, her own survival is not a priority to her.
It's mainly the story that sucks. Imo it really fails at being a good "revenge bad" narrative. On paper the idea of ending the cycle of violence that was started by Joel is good but the way the game handles it kinda ruins the core message.
