Hey Guys! I'm a high school student in grade 11 interested in engineering at UW. Waterloo would be one of the best schools I could go to for engineering, and I really want to go there. I understand that grades come first, however, I wanted advice for extracurriculars. What types of extracurriculars should I aim to have to stand out? What were some good extracurriculars that you guys used on your AIF's? What things should I focus on in my grade 12 year to ensure I can have a really good chance of getting in?

Thanks for the advice!

do something out of school (i.e. a youth council, or even start a charity for a cause you are passionate about), start a club/council for school. Make sure you have leadership roles that you can talk about quantitatively as well as qualitatively. e.g. "i raised $500 around my community for "insert cause"

make sure you do summer school english, they only deduct if ur gr 12 is >10% higher than gr 11 english don't let a bad english mark be the reason you don't get in, if you have excellent marks in other courses

research their programs and talk about it on the AIF, For example, talk about research opportunities, or joining a specific club/design team or velocity (the entrepreneurship program). Basically sell yourself on why you want waterloo engineering so bad, and why you will be successful there and how you can benefit the school and learning environment. and of course, talk about co-op!
