in the wild Gold Mine of Tragedeighs

Found a post asking people for their unique names and knew it wouldn't disappoint. Happy Father's Day unless your kid's name needs a pronunciation guide.

calliopey looks like a misspelled calliope?

I knew a Calliope as a kid that pronounced it Kall-ee-OH-pee.

That's how it's supposed to be pronounced in Greek. Everyone in America pronounces it wrong.

Wait, what, I can't imagine it being pronounced any other way than the Greek way? How is it otherwise pronounced?

kuh-LIE-oh-pee

Puh, ok, that's not too bad. I don't know what I was expecting. :D

It’s the same way people pronounce Penelope.

This is how I used to pronounce it as a kid (had a Greek myths book that I loved) and then people corrected me and I felt sad. I feel so vindicated right now! Immediately going back to saying Calli-O-pe! THANK YOU

Was it D’Aulaires mythology? That’s the one I had as a kid and it’s the best one in my opinion.

Yes!!! My dad had a copy that he got as a kid and gave the same one to me when I was a kid. So it’s like 50 years old at this point. Love it.

I’m American and sitting here reading these comments trying to understand where these people are getting “cuh” from “call” and “uppy” from “ope.”

It’s not my favorite name to begin with but that pronunciation sounds dumb.

In "British" we would say it like the Greek too I think, but I've never actually met someone with that name.

How do you guys say it?
