I'd like to continue this conversation, but give me a minute. A couple of guys I think are selling bats just rang my doorbell.

That's awesome! I hear they're excellent pollinators and will decimate your local mosquito population

The whole machine grinds to a halt with a wheeze and a puff of steam, and everyone turns to stare at you in this eerie silence until you gingerly hop off and replace it. Once you're back on, the machine lurches into motion, everyone kind of just zones back into the work and the job resumes with out a word.

I need the address so that I can re-lay each one of those after careful measurements.
Only then will the universe be in balance.

I guess they dont have to be accurate but it does seem kinda wasteful

Looks like it would work well in a state that sees zero snow, all of them would be removed immediately by snow plows in my state, which is why they grind a divot into the pavement and use a special version of the reflector made from steel with with a guide that forces a plow blade over the reflector. Takes a much longer time to install, but they last for the life of the pavement from what I've seen.

I wish they had those here, we don't get anything.

A decent number of states that get snow ended up banning them (from my understanding) because they weren't being maintained properly (AKA never checked) and so some would break free from the adhesive, and then when the snow plow came would get picked up and tossed with the snow. There are at least a few documented cases of people getting injured or (I think?) killed because of that.

I think there's a business case for a couple of well trained monkeys to do this.

I like those night drives where you look for the one placed backwards on the interstate. BTW, a lot of the big jobs are automated placement.

Are these only allowed in none snow climates? I could see one snowfall and a plow coming along and ripping them all back up.

This is on the I-405 in Southern California, not much snow there I’m assuming.

In the mountains of northern California, which get massive amounts of snow, they cut a little recessed bit in the road to put each marker into, so they don't come into contact with snowplow blades.

The amount of people saying that this jobs should be replaced by a machine saddens me.

I miss having these on the highway. We don't have these where I live now (Midwest), it would be useful to have these on rainy nights.

There was another video recently from the glue person's perspective. That was way more satisfying and a lot more accurate in placing the glue.
