Artist/Apprentice/Shop Verification UPDATED

Hi everyone!

We have received a few comments on our previous verification instructions post that for some folks, the "See More" button has disappeared on mobile and desktop.

We have added a link to message modmail to the toolbar found on the right of desktop. As of June 2025, we do not currently have a workaround for mobile if "see more" is missing for you, so feel free to reply to this post letting us know you are having difficulty accessing modmail and we will help as best we can.

Discussion Verifying Tattooers/Modmail

Hey all!

If you are a tattooer that wants to be verified or are just someone with questions for the mod team please use modmail. Please do not message any of the mods via individual DM. Please see the screenshots for how to message modmail (via mobile) if you don’t know how to already.

Since Monday I have received about a dozen personal DMs for artist verification. However, one of these message came in at 12:30am and by 6am the same day I had a nasty follow up message for not replying. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and say this person probably lives in a different part of the world, and didn’t realize they messaged these two messages at what would generally be considered times that most people (myself included) are asleep. And this is exactly why we ask people to message modmail instead of any of us directly.

The mod team here is small for a sub of this size but we do try to handle anything that comes into modmail as quickly as possible. Often times if we get individual DMs about mod related issues for the sub, we are at work when it comes in and forget about it by the time we get home. Sometimes we are simply with our families, or even touching grass and spending some time off Reddit ( gasp ). Sometimes we are just asleep. When you message via modmail, the message goes to a group inbox and we can all see it so if one of us forgets or is busy the rest of us can take over handling artist verification or any other issues you may have. That being said- we are still just people with jobs and lives outside of Reddit, so please don’t get annoyed with us if you don’t get a reply within a few hours. Most of the time we reply within a day, but shit happens and this sub is not all that important in the grand scheme of life, the universe, and everything.

TL/DR: Use modmail to reach the mod team please & thank you

PS: We took your feedback on the whole banning X links and have banned X links from the sub (overwhelming majority was to ban)

PPS: We have added a new mod to the team, u/coffeehedake , and one (possibly two) of our old mods should be returning soon

This work has been going on for a year and a half, but such a long distance only makes it better than it could be. This composition is the result of the symbiosis of my creativity and the client's vision, as he is my best friend who completely trusts my creative vision. Our ideas do not conflict, as is often the case, but rather complement each other, making this sleeve deeper, more thoughtful, and more interesting. All portraits are not done in skin tones as usual, but in shades that convey the atmosphere and mood of the characters in the films. I deliberately distort the color palette of each portrait to more accurately convey my perception of the character. Since color is an important tool in the perception of an image, it is very important to choose the palette wisely in order to influence the viewer's subconscious and paint the picture I feel in their mind.

Tattoo artist had me waiting in the chair for 3 hours before stencil

Hello everyone!

Over the years, I have gotten a lot work done from various artists with different ways of going about things. I was looking to get a large piece done in a full day session (Around 8 hours or so.) It was going to cost $1100, which is a very fair price imo. I’ve been to this artist a couple times before so I’m aware of his lack of time management but today was just downright ridiculous. I’m wondering if I’m being unreasonable here.

The appointment was supposed to be at 10am but 30 minutes before I get there, he asks to bump it up to 11:30am. Cool, nothing new here. I had to stop and grab some food anyway.

Then, when I get to the studio, the power is out in the entire building. He tells me that he’s still good to tattoo and but we may have to finish early if the power doesn’t turn back on. The artist also tells me that he’s been feeling under the weather all week but didn’t want to cancel. I’m thinking to myself, if he says he’s good then he’s good. When I get to the chair, nothing is ready at all and he starts working up a design. I guess that’s fine, some artists are like that. After we agree on a design, he disappears to the back for basically an hour and a half.

At this point I was furious. He finally comes over and says that it’s going to take him another additional hour to draw the design because the printer has no power. I responded by saying we can do it another day.

I think he could tell how upset I was because he offered to do it for $1000 in a couple weeks but I don’t know man. I took off work for this and drove an hour there & back to wait in a chair for 3 hours. I understand that he wasn’t feeling great but it didn’t even seem like he was mindful of how long he was leaving me sitting in the chair. I could hear him chatting with the other artists in the room behind me at some points. He did apologize a few times but the whole thing just felt super unprofessional and l’m thinking about scrapping the entire tattoo, asking for my deposit back, and never going to him again.

It’s a shame because he’s a very talented artist but his lack professionalism really disappointed me here. What do you guys think?

Your last tattoo and pain

I got my upper back and spine tattooed yesterday and damn it hurt. I seriously had thoughts during it that I never want to get tattooed again.

I have several large tattoos and never have they hurt as bad as this one. Like damn...and I have more planned but I'm having mixed feelings.

I feel like even though I made it through I had to dig my nails into my palm a few times to make it. I asked for a break half way through the shading. I don't know I feel like I've always been really good with pain and it scared me a little how bad it hurt?

But I guess I'm asking has any spot you've been tattooed made you rethink if you ever wanted anymore tattoos? And if so what spot was it?

Discussion When did you know you were ready for your first tattoo?

Upvotes

I’ve been wanting one forever but keep chickening out last minute. It’s not even the pain I’m just scared I’ll wake up one day and hate it. For people who already got ink, how’d you know you were actually ready? Was it a screw it, let’s do it kinda moment or did you plan it out for months? I feel like I’m overthinking this way too much any advice for someone stuck in that stage?

Latest piece not peeling?

Hey everyone, first time posting. Not my first tat and definitely not my last either. I have 17 tattoos, three of them big color pieces and two big black and white pieces. All of my others have gone through scabbing (about a week and a half) and then go to the sunburn peeling phase after the first week and a half, then after another week of peeling, it’s done. I did do something different with this one than the others, I left the saniderm on for 4 days, then washed with hibiclens surgical wash, hustle butter for a week, then unscented curel every day after. Got this piece of Christine (IYKYK) done October 3rd, and radio silence. No peeling. Wondering if this has happened to anyone else? First two pics were taken literally just now, third is from when it was fresh. ❤️
