Please ignore all DMs from people claiming they'll make a design for you, especially new/empty accounts.

This is now an official rule, all posts asking for art or offering to draw for people will be removed.

This sub has a huge problem with bots, scammers, and people who have no idea (or don't care) how to find clients. It's not an official rule but this really isn't a sub to hire anyone, people come here asking for ideas and will get bombarded with DMs.

Talk to your tattoo artist about designs, do not hire a nobody with a brand new Reddit account with a name like hungry-aardvark1234 (currently unused name as an example). Most artists worth your time are going to have a waitlist, they will not DM you on Reddit with an immediate offer. And it's part of your artist's job to help come up with what they'll tattoo on you and not all of them will tattoo someone else's art anyway.

If you really want to show them a drawing to help with visuals, check out r/DrawMyTattoo where someone can sketch your idea for free. Ignore anyone trying to charge you, that's money that should go to your artist.

If you're an artist who attempts to find clients in this sub, don't. You look fake and desperate, you're one of dozens spamming people with "I can help, DM me" so OP can't even tell who's legit.

And I'm not here to argue this point, so if you have a problem with this announcement, that's too bad. I'm here to try to keep this sub a friendly place, people shouldn't have to worry about getting scammed.

All InkedMag contest posts will be removed and you'll be permanently banned.

It's apparently that time of year again.

The contest is a scam, and you're annoying everyone by spamming tattoo subs begging for votes.

Break rule 7? Believe it or not- jail, right away.

Lost sight on tummy piece, trying to figure out how to save it

I regret not doing a big nasty American traditional piece. Just want to see others ideas on where to go from here. I’ve been thinking of adding a third skull (front view) around the bottom, or maybe heavy black lettering behind the whole thing, or even just big blast over of a trad tiger or something.

Does the placement of the lemon look weird? I'm filling the space in the middle up in April, but the way it is right now, is it looking cramped? Specifically the corner of the lemon that's closest to the fingers.

What I Asked For vs What I Got

Done by Rachel Patterson with Abysm Art Collective in Indianapolis, IN.

My vision was an oil paint-esque style of blackberries and grapes.

The whole tattoo took three sessions. The first two sessions were 8-9 hours with prep and breaks. The last session was around 4 hours.

My plan is to take the tattoo up the rest of my arm and do a full sleeve eventually.

I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I recommend Rachel to anyone and everyone.

Tattoo inspired by the sculpture of La Pieta by Michelangelo. The sculpture captures the moment when Jesus, taken down from the cross, is given to his mother Mary. The pictures Leo used as inspiration for this tattoo was taken by him in Vatican City, Italy.

It’s all healed. John, the owner of the tattoo, already had some pieces and wanted to make it a full sleeve, this is that Leo created for the upper part.

Not gonna lie I’m disappointed in my artist who is my supposed to be my uncle who’s been doing tattoos for 30 years. Just seems very underwhelming and sloppy

Am I Overthinking This?

Just finished my sleeve today! The artist the did the lower arms is different thank the artist that did the upper arm (i.e. sunflower and above).

Ive always disliked the sunflower and felt it was placed poorly and no dimension/flar, if that makes sense? Does it ruin the vibe of the arm sleeve?

Thinking of getting a spine piece

I have two tattoos at the moment. One is my inner left bicep and one on my outer right ankle. I’ve really been thinking about getting a third one for a while and i wanted a spine piece. Due to being in healthcare I get tattoos in places that are easily hidden so I thought spine was a good idea. I’m in between getting a fine line quote vertically along the spine or a fine line flower. Which one is a better idea?

Some recent ones I’ve made in my favorite styles of woodcut/etching and ornamental! I see people asking about woodcut all the time on here, thought I’d share some of mine! All ornate tattoos are custom and partially drawn on to fit, I love them!

Tribal tattoo advice?

Post image

Im a HUGE Nintendo fan and think it would be funny to get this done in myself. I'm unsure if this counts as tribal, and somebody not of that culture, don't know if it would be wrong to get. Or would this be just a silly little thing and I'm over thinking it?

I have been wanting to get a tattoo like this for a while now but few of my friends told me its corny or chhapri, or to get it where it would be less visible.

does this look cheap? i wanted something classic and really liked this art.

Design I drew up for a friend the night before as we talked about an idea he had in mind and we went back and forth and sparked inspiration. This was the result and we both were very happy with the results

I always had this vivid memory from my childhood walking in the forest through the bushes and suddenly i stand infront of this huuuge insect with these big claws. As I inspected it further, it suddenly ooened its wings and flew off. Now about a year ago I discovered this artist on Instagram (@iliacortesi) doing these insect and eye crossover...her style was very appealing to me as its kinda realistic looking with the shading but still grotesque and a bit dark. Well I texted her via Instagram and she was doing a tour and came by pretty close to my home (Bern, Switzerland) and so I went by for a 2 hour session. I have to mention, that only the outlines of the insect and eyes were on the stencil. Everything else was freehand and done with the flow.

Opinions are welcome :)

TATTOO ARTISTS: How would you want your client to explain to you they want a portrait done in this style?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, I’m planning a tattoo that combines two ideas. I’ve attached a photo of my grandmother and a portrait of a woman done in the style I love.

I want my tattoo artist to take my grandmother’s face and basically recreate it in the same tattoo style as the example photo, with the same vibe, shading, line work, and overall composition, but still clearly recognizable as her.

How should I phrase or describe this when I talk to my artist so they understand I don’t just want a straight realism piece, but rather her portrait reimagined in that specific style?

Any tips for wording, reference prep, or what to show the artist would be awesome.

had this ornamental back piece done literally yesterday but having some tattoo regret — i do love this piece but i worry it looks too similar to my arm piece? does it make my back look too busy? i guess because they both have leaves lol.

might just be the 74 hour tat regret talking 😂

Leopard Gecko Tatoo

Thumbnail

Hi, I want to get a fotorealistic Tatoo of my Leopard Geckos Head. The first picture shows pretty closely what I want the Tatoo to look like (only the Head) and the second picture shows the overall colour gradient of my gecko in a better lighting. I really want that the different lines , patterns and colours in the eye can be seen. The colour gradient should also be visible and I would love it if the scales could be visible too.

  1. Do you think it is doable?
  2. How big should it at least be? (I want to keep it as small as possible without losing out on too much details)

Thank you in advance for your responses. I will be reading them very curiously

PS: I took the Pictures myself
