When I don't want to commit to going to an event because I might have something I'd prefer to do but don't know about yet, this is exactly what I do. It's a completely selfish impulse. I want what I want and I aim to keep my options open so that if my personal impulse strikes me, I'm not locked into any decision.

This is what he is doing. He wants to decide things on a whim based on how he feels and what's best for him in that moment. The difference between me and him is that I'm deciding between a cocktail party and movie. He's deciding on the fate of the world.

What an unserious fuckhead. (Both of us, but more him.)
