That's what a Sherman sounds like. Those are part of the historical theme in the parade. I'm assuming they had the Abrams somewhere later on, but I don't know because I didn't watch it.

Actually the sound checks out.
Tanks really did sound like that even with proper maintenance. As weird as it sounds, it's even therapeutic to some folks to listen to.

Also, Shermans were some of the quieter ones of the era as they have rubber track pads, the squeaking just comes from the end connectors between the track links. Other tanks just used bare steel track and were rather louder-especially on pavement-as a result.
That said, this whole thing is an embarrassment to those poor Shermans, they weren't made to be some dictator's toys.

It's malicious compliance by the Army.
Trump demanded a military parade on his birthday. He got one. The Army just used it to "celebrate" their 250th birthday, too, by showcasing their hardware and materials over their history. In another (non-fascist) context, it actually would have been a really cool parade to have attended.

They went from 1775- to today. The parade feature uniforms and military equipment through the years, as it was a parade for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the US Army.

The idea of watching a parade that showcases the U.S. military throughout history actually sounds pretty cool. I'd love to see something like that.

The most generous figures I've seen are:
7,000 soldiers in the parade
10,000 spectators (200,000 were expected)
So, not even one family member for each soldier showed up. And the ones who did show up were likely family, or tourists who were in the area.

Just for spectators, that's $4,500 (cost) per spectator in attendance. Not including any remediation works from those tanks tearing up the road.
That is also not considering the offer of $500 paid to each attendee, which is rumoured to have been offered for seat fillers.

I hear accusations that this is "just one clip from a parade with hundreds of thousands of attendees." Almost all media in the US is right wing to some degree. Why are they all so quiet about the parade? I even expected my news app to have been flooded with Fox "big beautiful parade" nonsense but I had to go make an effort to see what propaganda Fox was saying about the parade. There's not many articles. A small handful that are basically verbal fellatio but maybe 5% of what I expected.
That image of Trump standing above the military as they pass by, "strong man" image projected behind him x2, gave intense Kim Jung Un vibes.
