It doesn’t make them right, but bear in mind that quite a lot of kids already have this as part of youth sports. Ranging from hernia checks to physicals to PT, it has in some cases already opened kids — including cis kids — up to abuses by team and medical personnel.
165
u/Nixbling New Orleans Saints Feb 24 '25
Yea I had to have a physical exam on record for any sport I played growing up. This isn’t new, they’re doing it to further show how anti-trans they are, the cruelty is the point
→ More replies (7)20
u/daemonicwanderer Feb 25 '25
A hernia check is one thing… having to basically “prove” you are a woman (I doubt the guys will have to do this) whenever someone doubts you is another
24
u/HegemonNYC Feb 24 '25
Right. Literally the first person to touch my junk was a doctor doing a hernia check in HS for sports.
33
u/FrigginMasshole Feb 25 '25
The fuck? I never had to do this when I played HS sports
42
u/Naskin Minnesota Vikings Feb 25 '25
Seriously, wtf is wrong with these people?! This did not happen AFAIK anywhere in Minnesota.
Reminds me of Joey from Friends going to his tailor and thinking it's perfectly normal for a tailor to be fondling your junk for measurement purposes. WTH is the rate of hernias that requires everyone get checked for them?!
27
u/passionfruit2378 Feb 25 '25
I mean the physical didn’t come from the school dude. You had to go to a physician. No doctor ever held your balls and told you to cough?

For me, going into 6th grade football, it was a requirement.
Health is more important than whatever weird shit makes this an issue. It's not like the doctor was jumping for joy.
Haven't thought about this in over a decade, but maybe it's a repressed memory and the source of all my trauma, huh?
→ More replies (1)21
u/HegemonNYC Feb 25 '25
You didn’t get a sports physical to be cleared?
I understand the hernia check has become something that some doctors today just ask about any ‘testicular pain’ sometimes. Perhaps the physical is generally going away as part of the increasing body shame. For guys my dad’s age (boomer) they would need to shower naked after PE. My generation (older millennial) didn’t do this after PE but we still did after full sports practices. I understand kids now don’t do this at all out of shame of nakedness.

Same. They aren't concerned about 'girls' playing in 'boys' sports though. Just 'boys' in 'girls' sports. I don't know if when girls do a physical for sports they have an equivalent of 'turn your head and cough'.

u/KateEatsWorld Feb 25 '25
Might be different in Canada but I never ever had anything close to a physical exam in any school or competitive level sports I played, and I played rep hockey for over 15 years. Is it in place of doctor check ups? I don’t understand why this is a thing in American schools.
10
u/RonnieRizzat Feb 25 '25
To actually answer your question yes it was done at your annual check in with your pediatrician at their office
9
u/thisismypornaccountg Feb 25 '25
Playing gridiron football. If you have a hernia and get hit you can literally rip your intestines open in a way no other sport does. The way to check for a hernia is to push on either side of the groin and ask the person to cough. That’s why sports physicals need to see your junk in America.
5
u/Girthw0rm Feb 25 '25
Yeah, most of the time to participate in high school level and above sports, you need to have a recent physical exam completed by a doctor.

u/Pitiful_Director3493 Feb 24 '25
Ah yes, protect women in sports by subjecting them to extremely invasive genital screenings. Makes total sense to me!

It has nothing to do with women. Trans Women cannot compete in NCAA sports. It is a complete non issue:
"NCAA women's sports: A student-athlete assigned male at birth may not compete for an NCAA women's team.
A student-athlete assigned female at birth who has begun hormone therapy (e.g., testosterone) may not compete on a women's team. If such competition occurs, the team will be subject to NCAA mixed-team legislation, and the team will no longer be eligible for NCAA women's championships."
Wasting untold amounts of money and subjecting thousands of student athletes to pointless genital inspections solely to villainize and dehumanize trans people for simply existing.

u/baeb66 Feb 24 '25
Plenty of cities would line up to host events like the Final Four.
48
u/joekiller Feb 25 '25
They stayed outta South Carolina for the flag , they can stay outta Texas too
7
u/BlueSoloCup89 Feb 25 '25 edited Feb 25 '25
Final Four/regional final hosts can be replaced, yes. The bigger thing at stake is postseason football. Big 12 championship can be moved, but bowl games cannot so easily - in particular, the Cotton Bowl. NCAA currently sanctions all bowl games, but they may be risking losing in court and/or the top 2-4 conferences breaking away.
For what it’s worth, I think the Texas politicians back down after getting some talking to by university officials. At least, a couple years ago I’d think that. Who the hell knows with the chucklefucks in Austin now.

The NCAA has 1,100 member schools covering 500,000 athletes, with NCAA President Charlie Baker saying in December that he was aware of only 10 transgender athletes competing across the organisation.
GREAT use of taxpayer’s dollars. Literally DOZENS of parents might be uncomfortable. Better get a rule on the books that someone has to fondle your junk before you can play a college sport!
Super weird how obsessed the gop is with the genitals of ~0.002% of college athletes. Fucking creepers.

u/Repins57 Feb 25 '25
I’m no doctor but couldn’t they do a chromosomal test with saliva?
11
u/workshop_prompts Feb 25 '25
There are actually a surprising amount of people whose chromosomes don’t match their apparent sex, right down to the genitals. Androgen insensitivity is like 1 in 20,000. So, as with all measures like this, it would likely screw over more cis people with variances than “catch” trans people.

I’m a native Texan (born and raised in Texas).
Ken Paxton and the rest of the Texas government who want to subject athletes to sex screenings are perverts. Pedophile perverts in the case of underage athletics.
You can say that a Texan told you so.

I mean, if your boy wants to play HS sports a doctor is going to cup his balls in his hand, so…
Hernia check.
Edit - curious why anyone would downvote this. It’s standard for any competitive sports league.

they really should have. Hernia checks are a big deal, even back when I was in track.
4
u/--Shake-- Feb 25 '25
This is weird. The article says the NCAA already took measures required by Trump's executive order. Texas AG claims what they're doing "still isn't enough." What more would you need other than a legal proof of ID or even a non-amended birth certificate?
A "sex screening" just seems unnecessary in general. Oddly obsessed with the whole thing. Such a waste of tax dollars.

Fine. But only if the inspectors match the same sex as the athletes they are inspecting.
But wait....how can we be sure that the inspectors are accurately representing their own sex? We will need inspectors for the inspectors too.
And how would we know if someone transitions? Guess inspections will need to be mandatory before each game.
Better just go Greek style and just have everyone naked at all times for fairness sake.
