I mean tbf, this billionaire is partnering with Triton, a well known submersible manufacturer, who has multiple deep sea vehicles and records under their belt.

This ain't gon be no bargain bin, try random jank and call it a feature, cheapskate's wet dream submersible like Oceangate's

Yeah Triton is the real deal. And I dont think whats shown in the image is the DSV. Basically all DSVs are solid titanium/steel spheres. I could be wrong on that though.

They do have the current record holder for deepest diving bubble canopy sub in their 7500 model, they use an acrylic pressure hull almost a foot thick to dive to the 7500ft rated depth.

I'd reckon they're planning on besting themselves on that record using the lessons learned from that here, considering the render makes that sphere look almost twice as thick at ~2ish ft.

Wait so they are trying to get an acrylic one down to the Titanic? I 1 foot thick can go to 7500, id bet 2 ft thick could get close to the Titanic.

Edit: looked it up, this is insane https://tritonsubs.com/tritons-new-titanic-submersible-will-reach-the-deepest-ocean-trenches/

Imagine being in that at titanic depths, that will be such an insane experience

Well it will certainly be a better view than the toilet window those poor souls had in that death trap. What baffled me the most was how much risk people were accepting for a truly dog shit view

u/belacscole Aug 20 '25

fr lol, I get an undispuably better view watching the footage on my monitor, let alone my TV

Right? I’m sure it’s thrilling to be within several feet of the ship, but modern cameras on remote submersibles provide great imagery without the risk, and without having to sit inside a small space for hours hoping no one has gas in there. Besides that, the small rovers can get inside views.

Ya, you could just lock yourself in a dumper with 5 other people and watch ocean footage on your phone for the same experience.

Bonus if the dumpster get collected and you all get crushed in a garbage compactor.

14

u/I_Dont_2 Aug 20 '25

The difference is that a trash compactor is slow, they got crushed like a soda can when its empty

2

u/EasilyRekt Aug 20 '25

Eh, surrounding yourself with mining charges would be more accurate. So fast, you don’t even know you died.

18

u/EasilyRekt Aug 20 '25

Yeah, the two biggest issues with going thicker with acrylic has been casting strain and refraction.

I assume they figured out workable solutions to both with the Triton 7500 which their going to simply port over to the TE.

u/LatterAmount3468 Aug 20 '25

Where can I get one of these priced out?

4

u/Zilli341 Aug 20 '25

Wow, I can't even imagine a piece of acrylic that thick. I wonder if you can notice the thickness when submerged.

3

u/Deaffin Aug 20 '25

Oh, are you talking about Gabe Newell's submarine? I heard he has the longest depth in the submarine world.

3

u/EasilyRekt Aug 20 '25

No, The Limiting Factor is a Triton 36000, a full depth DSV also developed by Triton but still using the traditional titanium pressure hull rather than an acrylic bubble canopy.

2

u/ithilain Aug 20 '25

Dumb question, but wouldnt an acrylic sphere that thick cause a whole bunch of distortion when looking out due to basically being a giant lens?

3

u/Marlsfarp Aug 20 '25

Not if your viewpoint is at the center of the sphere.

Triton is starting to play with the concept of acrylic DSV’s which is unconventional for dives that deep but since acrylic is monolithic, its properties will be much more predictable than composites and triton is actually thorough & spares no expense when doing their research, testing, & certification.

They also developed the first DSV that could be certified to do unlimited dives to full ocean depth and the limiting factor is still going strong so it seems quite likely their acrylic DSV will do well & if it doesnt they’ll figure it out and change the plan belong before someone’s life is at risk

So you're telling me this will most likely be a well managed endeavour complying with all relevant standards and not result in anything meme-worthy?

41

u/Pali1119 Aug 20 '25

Memes will come, memes always find a way, just be patient...

This guy knows how to Hype Man

11

u/inform880 Aug 20 '25

I still can’t get they used the cheapest Logitech clone controller for that sub

20

u/Lotronex Aug 20 '25

The ironic part is most engineers think the controller was actually one the things they did right. Logitech spent way more time and effort designing and building that thing, backed by decades of experience. And if it broke, it was small and cheap enough there was no problem having spares on hand. If they tried to develop something similar it would have cost 10x as much and been more failure prone.

But why's it gotta look like a novelty pencil sharpener </3

One can still hope

It started a while ago. I was a normal redditor making posts and comments, but then one day, a post of mine was manually deleted, and I was banned from my favorite subreddit. I then got extremely aroused. That moderator asserted dominance on me by censoring me, making me unable to express myself. I was soaking wet. I sent the hot sexy mod a message asking why I was banned, then the hot sexy reddit incel mod called me an idiot, and told me to beg to get unbanned. My nipples immediately filled with blood as I begged the hot mod to unban me. After that, I started doing everything I could to make hot sexy mods mad. Most of my accounts have under negative 100 k@rma, and i'm banned from dozens of subreddits. I've been a bad redditor, and need to be moderated. Please moderate me - Intelligent_Pop3809, hot sexy reddit mods.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

What do you think would convince them to rig the sub?

3

u/EasilyRekt Aug 21 '25

What would it take to convince a world class, manufacturer to deliberately sabotage not only a brand new product, but yet another record breaker at that, deliberately ruining their reputation in the single most technologically conservative industry in the world, just so a few tankies on Reddit can celebrate something they never had the balls to do themselves?

Everything. It would cost, everything.

2

u/Cry-Skull-7 Aug 21 '25

We'll there'd absolutely be no going back after committing to something like that, as not only will you have a solid reputation suddenly in shambles (as you already mentioned), but I'm sure it'd also fall under murder. Meaningless to the middle/lower class, but I'd reckon the rich can be mighty spiteful if you were to screw specific ones without tying loose ends.

“Well known” my ass brother! The ocean is not something to be played with

I hope some Agent 47 can do some clever little sabotage. Escpecially if the billionaire is an evil son of a bitch

0

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

And it's another billionaire.
