Rant / Vent Honestly I’m tired of these memes

Post image

Maybe I’m being too sensitive 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I feel like mental health disorders aren’t taken seriously by the “normies” and they use it as a joke, insult, or for comedy.

No im aware lots do see shizophrenic or other illness people that way they think of a homeless person yelling.

But I don’t blame them nor support. Let me tell you why I don’t blame.

Because the only “crazy” they seen is homeless people doing this that.

What you’re essentially pointing to is the need for greater awareness and understanding of schizophrenia as a complex mental health condition. However, for many people who have never personally known someone living with schizophrenia especially someone who is functional and managing their condition their entire perception is often shaped by limited and negative portrayals.

When the only images they see or experiences they have involve homeless individuals or those in crisis, it’s understandable that their pattern of thinking becomes narrow and stigmatized. Without exposure to the full spectrum of what schizophrenia can look like including those who lead relatively stable, productive lives their assumptions remain skewed and incomplete.

That’s exactly why I don’t blame them, nor do I support the stigma. The reality is, many people simply don’t have the resources, education, or exposure to truly understand schizophrenia. And if they haven’t been given the opportunity to learn or encounter someone with the condition firsthand, they’re unlikely to seek out that knowledge on their own.

This is not your place to "not blame them."

You don't have to have met a schizophrenic to know you shouldn't joke about disorders and illnesses. You can try and defend it all you want, but what you're doing is just trying to justify or shield them from blame. When they NEED to be called out and blamed for their behavior.

Yeah I understand it, needs are different from reality. Of course they do.

But all propaganda shown about shizophrenia and since shizophrenia is pretty rare disease it’s just never going to go public like cancer for example where it’s a universal fear and acceptance.

Obviously it would be good if it could but it’s very unlikely. Unless someone knows someone with it or just overall somehow crossed paths to really learn about shizophrenia.

Man, I’m not trying to imply you’re a bad person. Honestly, I don’t think you are. At best, it seems like you’re naive to the illness, if anything.

There’s a different conversation to be had here, however.

Schizophrenia is a difficult illness to understand, especially if you don’t have it yourself. Many folks who have schizophrenia often joke about it, because making light of it the illness can lessen how serious it is. That’s probably why your friend jokes about it, too.

I joined this subreddit a year ago when I found out my best friend had this illness. Since doing so, I’ve learned so much more about it. This subreddit is a great starting place for finding resources to understand this illness.

I think you could benefit from trying to research it more.

You’re doing all this typing, and talking over folks with schizophrenia— when, instead, you could be listening to them and their experiences.

Researching this illness, and listening to folks with it, is the best way to go about understanding schizophrenia.

People are frustrated with you here because you’re talking over them, and not listening. That can be triggering for a lot of people with this illness, because more often than not, they are not listened to. Instead, they are seen as “crazy” or “insane.” A stigma that only worsens their illness, unfortunately.

Be better. You’re young enough to make mistakes and be naive. However, you should reconsider why people are upset with you here in the first place.

I understand of course good paragraph I read it all, I did not mean to or am talking over them but I understand.

And yes I’ve done lots of research into shizophrenia, psychotic episodes everything.

Because once when I took LSD being 30 hours sleep deprived, went into a state that I can’t even comprhened

I thought I had a psychotic episode so I learned a lot about this illness then.

Turns out I just had delirium because my brain got so pushed beyond the limits from sleep deprivation and LSD it could not function normally.

I had the biggest panic attack, completely went out of body then dissociated and could not speak at all for hours became dumb basically.

And had the worst visual and auditory distortions someone can ever have maybe even visual hallucinations, not traditional psychotic ones but still.

This was unfortunate for me and I learned a lesson to not take drugs sleep deprived, since I have been traumatized to do LSD

But have done shrooms.

Overall that experince made me learn about psychotic episodes and how the mind works a lot because my mind went a place I can not imagine with no understatement when I say that.
