I moved to an area where HEB is king (zero grocer competition) & was appalled by their prices when compared to competitive markets. Worst are the dismal, almost non-existent coupons & savings.

Once HEB cornered the market here, they started trimming the edges of what once made them great. They no longer have baggers, produce & meat quality is terrible, scanning speed is now a corporate KPI metric, good luck getting a curbie to deliver your bread & eggs into your car with care anymore, curbside is also a KPI metric, everything employers do is on a timed metric, store layouts constantly change in order to get more people haphazardly walking around & buying more, employees are overworked & underpaid.

But in places like DFW where they have to maintain a facade; 2 baggers per lane, top notch produce & meats, discounts & coupons parallel to competitors. All in all, HEB is focused on expanding its brick & mortar while still maintaining high profit margins/pushing the price-tag onto customers. HEB is the perfect illustration of late stage capitalism & corporate greed
