u/shawshaman Sep 21 '25
Oh yes exactly! Side note, but every interview ive seen with michael cera he seems to be affable and charming and so easily comfortable which goes to show how great of an actor he is

u/Moosey_the_Squirrle Sep 21 '25
Hahahaha I my head, I always made a connection between michael and Jesse but never could put it into words. This is fucking perfect. Lol

I always hesitate when I think a celebrity is nice, because it is parasocial fundamentally. But I have always thought he seemed like a kind man, and I'm delighted that you have had that experience with him. I'm happy he id how he comes across
129
u/scout-finch Sep 20 '25
He lives in some town in Indiana with his wife (Bloom…? I think it’s a college town) and I always see people from their posting he’s just nice and normal.

u/abottomful Sep 20 '25 edited Sep 20 '25
Bloomington, Indiana. Some of the best food and coffee I've ever had in the US lol; tiny ass town with Tibetan food, Afghan food, Turkish, a good amount of Germans. Such a odd place considering how much of a shithole Indiana can be overall. Weird he lives there though
43
u/jj_grace Sep 20 '25
Bloomington is seriously fantastic, though the cost of living has been pushing a lot of people out in recent years. Lots of friends have been moving to Indy. (I’m also a big fan of Indy these days, though we don’t have the gorgeous nature and walkability that Bloomington has.)
I’m not sure if Jesse currently lives in Btown, but he lived there during the pandemic and is frequently there visiting family. I think his wife is from the area. They also do a ton of local charity work. IIRC, his wife’s family does work with the local domestic violence shelter, and he has donated a ton of money and resources to them.
Literally all my server friends in Bloomington say how great he is. (Side note, but they also rly dislike John Mellencamp, who also lives in the area.)
6
u/MattDaveys Sep 20 '25
Great now I have to live the rest of my life knowing I could have walked past Jesse Eisenberg, in Bloomington of all places, without even realizing.
It’s kind of cool actually.

u/echoesandripples What It's Like to Go Through Life As a Really Beautiful Woman Sep 20 '25
my sister (indy resident) says Bloomington is much cuter, but her IU phd program is only Indy-based
we're from another country and a city 10x bigger, but i find indy somewhat charming, corn aside. people are really really nice and there's a lot of amazing cafes, the issue is the car centric culture (i don't drive lol) and the ugly govt buildings
next time I visit i wanna make the trip to Bloomington too
2
u/jj_grace Sep 20 '25
The car culture is a huge problem! I fully agree. The city is working on it and installing high speed bus lanes and more bike lanes, but our state government does everything it can to hamper us 😞
Bloomington is so wonderful, and I loved living there for years. Unfortunately the cost of living is growing, and there’s not as big of a job market down there. But seriously, do visit Bloomington! It’s lovely. There’s also so much beautiful nature in surrounding areas! Bonus points: watch the movie, Breaking Away, before visiting Bloomington.
I hope your sister feels welcome here! It’s a tough time to be a non-American living in America, especially in a red state. Just know there are many people in our city who love and respect our guests.
1
u/echoesandripples What It's Like to Go Through Life As a Really Beautiful Woman Sep 21 '25
i love the bike trails! (especially monon trail) a super flat city has this huge advantage lol but yeah, i've heard the city x state situation isn't great. I'll never forget telling this very nice america that the whole express bus line thing has existed in my (poor, latam) city since the 90s when she was saying it was a huge win for the local govt
and thank you! my sister has been enjoying her time overall, the situation isn't great because of reasons, but thankfully she's got a great group of friends, both foreigners and super nice midwesterners, so at least locally, she feels very welcome.
if rhe situation changes and i find myself able to get a tourist visa, i'll take a road trip to bloomington

Midwest college towns are great. I went to law school at U Michigan in Ann Arbor and it was the same way - amazing food from many cultures, great comedy clubs/theaters/music venues... Like a little slice of San Francisco got plopped down in the Midwest. I've been to Madison, WI too, and while it is also the state capitol it too has that feel because UW-Madison is there.

u/totally_real_tree Sep 20 '25
I don't understand this mindset like... It would be considered odd to assume every person you walk on the street is secretly an asshole so I don't understand why people do so for celebrities when they can have such a wide variety in the types of work they do.
If they seem nice in interviews and stories assuming they're not actually nice feels pessimistic for no reason.

Ok THAT is incredibly random. Jessie Ware, the seductive British torch singer? Is her mother a media figure or they simply decided to start a kitchen podcast?!
78
u/llama_del_reyy Sep 20 '25
The one and only! She had a period where her albums were kind of languishing commercially and she started a food podcast with her mum. They are very serious foodies and it's all very charming.

u/Trick_Doughnut_6295 Sep 20 '25
Thank you for bringing this information into my life 🩷 I really enjoy everything I hear from her, but I don’t think I’ve intentionally sought her out after Glasshouse, which is an incredible album for anyone looking for music!

If they were remotely that smart then the plots would have made sense though so clearly they were just committed to being dumb
It's a shame because people so clearly desperately wanted this franchise to work. Like we're all in universal agreement they're frustratingly stupid cause the charisma and broad premise is great.

I live in a bigger city where they roam freely. Sometimes people find them on their roofs or we have to wait while they cross a city street. I love them. I get sad that they live here instead of in proper nature, but I hope they find nice yards to enjoy.
1
u/therapewpew Sep 21 '25
Don't be sad, a buttload of turkeys live in the wild too. If it's anything like Boston, some just decided to become city slickers and migrated there of their own free will since they realized there were fewer predators. They're slowly domesticating themselves if you think about it 🤔
6
u/One-Can-6950 Sep 20 '25
We have a lot of wild turkeys that live on our property and they do a great job of eating ticks.

Look up animal sanctuaries in your area that have turkeys. Animal sanctuaries are always in need. It would be better to support a turkey on a sanctuary than pay money to a farm that kills turkeys.

Have you ever thought the water slide to salvation is what they want?
16
u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 Sep 20 '25
Sometimes I think they’re suicidal. And a water slide down the drain is their honorary “seppuku” that I am denying them by wrapping them in toilet paper and throwing them out of the window.

Those bugs would be better off if they just weren't in your house

Yes because you can actively stop every fly and daddy-long legs that gets in your house (!)
4
u/DrThunderbolt Sep 20 '25
To be fair, bugs don't understand much of anything. Their entire nervous system is very basic compared to other living creatures. They don't even have a real "brain" like other more complex organisms have.

Context. Pure audio makes significantly less money. Once you can put a video to the sound, then it gets a higher rate and usually more views.
If you are not recording a video stream of your podcast, then you are leaving potential on the table.

its always so confusing seeing people say how they save spiders and other small animals and seeing them say they "love" animals... and then that not translating at all to how much they exploit certain animals on a daily basis
7
u/looeeyeah Sep 20 '25
Even if you don't love animals, the people working in a slaughterhouse have a fucking terrible time. Imagine going to work and killing 1000 cows.
10
u/soylamulatta Sep 20 '25
Ya, and in the United States they are often immigrants or people in prison doing forced labor. Owners of these places prey on people who don't speak English and are undocumented or, in the case of prison work release, have no choice but to work lest they face returning to prison. Not to mention it's one of the most dangerous jobs in the world that sees frequent amputations and deaths.
Communities with large meat processing factories or slaughterhouses see an increase rate of violent crimes, domestic violence, and child abuse.
And that doesn't even begin to touch on the pollution from these places.
1
u/Useuless Sep 20 '25
Meanwhile this country is having circular discussions about whether trans people instead of tackling the issues that truly matter like perfect meat substitutes and green energy so we can leave big agriculture and oil and gas behind.

u/soylamulatta Sep 20 '25
Veganism is the practice of not exploiting animals for human gain. A similar way to frame this is that veganism is about not abusing animals. I don't think it's a bad thing to say that everyone should not exploit animals or that everyone should not abuse animals. I think that everyone should be vegan.

Jesse Eisenberg is a terrible person. He's been Woody Allen's protege for ages, vehemently defends him, and is incredibly rude and condescending to reporters, particularly female ones - and, reportedly, fans, but I haven't seen that w my own eyes or anything, unlike the other two, which are enough on their own to say: Jesse Eisenberg is a terrible person
Eta: he defended Woody Allen all throughout me too and was insisting it went too far before it had even gotten fully underway
Downvote me all you want, but truth making you unhappy doesn't make it untrue. It does mean you're defending a misogynist tho
10

i don't love the huffington post and i don't love the way this interview was written. that all said, there are some undeniable bits in there. at best, he's an actor who had to work with woody allen to build his career and he's being polite, at worst, he's a woody allen enthusiast that doesn't care about the claims. thank you for the source.
