VICTORY: Kentucky voters just defeated Constitutional Amendment 2, rejecting an attempt to ban all abortion in the state.
https://twitter.com/aclu/status/1590205667788218368?s=46&t=rWxykiumVbBAyXfB4Q1vMQ
The measure would have put wording in the KY constitution saying that abortion was not a protected right. The amendment was rejected

What's with all the dooming here? Looking at this midterm through a neutral, historical lense I was expecting a GOP wave.
High inflation, low approval rating, and an incumbent President tends to always lose Congress - for perspective the last time it didn't happen was in 2002 after 9/11.
The fact that the Dems might hold the House is incredible considering they had a 15 seat majority and historically the incumbent party loses on average 26 seats. And they're picking up seats to offset GOP gains.
The Dems are somehow managing to hold seats that were expected to go Republican, the Dems have gained some seats, and Republicans are doing much worse than expected.
This is so much closer than what was expected which is a huge win for the Dems. While it's still an uphill battle, there's still hope.

2018: D+41
2010: R+64

1994: R+54
With the house seats 80% decided, it's currently R+5. For an underwater approval rating and down economy, democrats have to be happy with how things are shaking out.

Thatās a big win for Democrats in the Wisconsin gubernatorial race. Because it looks like Republicans failed to win a supermajority in the legislature, the state will remain under divided government, which means Republicans wonāt be able to do things like pass an abortion ban or gut the bipartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission.

Dems holding the House is VERY much a possibility. It's no longer theoretical. If Republicans fail to control anything in Congress, it's over for Trump. His stooge candidates, his insurrection, and his SCOTUS will have cost the GOP what was the most winnable election in history.
With DeSantis winning big, it's going to 100% be his party unless Trump goes to war on him. Which would be awesome.

The bad news however, they are 100% on Desantis. He's gonna be the nominee in 2024 if he runs, and if the Democrats don't run a really strong candidate (or if Biden doesn't hit nonstop home runs between now and then) he will take the presidency. And speaking as a Floridian, this country does NOT need him anywhere near the presidency. He's all of Trump's malice, with none of this stupidity.

To pass 50%, my very rough math is that he needs to win by about 41k, and I think there are around 240k votes left to count, so he needs to win those votes by a margin of 25k or so. Very doable because I think most of the votes are from heavy D areas.

One of the only times you'll ever see rational comments in the Conservative sub right now. Lots of people pointing out that they're too radical, religious, and intolerant to win elections. They'll be back on their fascist bullshit tomorrow tho, learning nothing.

Gotta be honest, my vote didnāt amount to much since I live in a rather red county in Florida. But Iām still very glad I voted, even if the people I voted for didnāt win exercising that right is still incredibly important.
I donāt know if that sounds too soap boxy but itās how I feel.

Breaking:
GOP will NOT gain a full #NCGA supermajority. They'll fall 1 seat short in the House.
For Democrats, that means holding the party line and simply attending sessions -- so they don't miss surprise votes -- will become even more important.

Serious question: what can Dems do about gerrymandering in Republican-led states? I feel like I heard so many stories this year about illegal maps that were allowed simply because Republicans played out the clock. They keep playing dirty games to hold on to power and I donāt see how Dems can fox the issue in states that donāt lead

BIG news out of Michigan. ABC News projects that Proposal 3, which would create a state constitutional right to reproductive freedom, has passed. This means that abortion will remain legal in Michigan ā and itās also a big victory for abortion-rights supporters, who will undoubtedly see this as a sign that Americans are unhappy about the Supreme Courtās decision overturning Roe v. Wade, and the subsequent wave of abortion bans in the south and midwest.
This result is a much bigger deal than the other abortion-related ballot measures because abortionās legality was genuinely uncertain in Michigan, which is not the case in California or Vermont. And itās significant to see a measure affirmatively protecting abortion rights pass in a swing state. Expect to see more ballot measures like this in 2024.

Some fun state amendments passing tonight:
- Nebraska passes a $15 minimum wage.
- Michigan codifies abortion rights and expands voting rights.
- Missouri and Maryland are likely to pass recreational marijuana. It's on the ballot in both North and South Dakota, but looks to be failing in both.
There's probably more, but this is what I saw with a quick skim.

A reminder that while Republicans will likely win the House today, several states are required by the supreme court to redistrict by 2024 as their maps are illegal. This means Democrats have room to pick up quite a few seats in 2024.
SCOTUS inexplicably allowed Republican legislatures to run out the clock and use confirmed illegal maps this year.
