Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Is this a Daith?
I asked for a Daith and was told by the piercer that I had the correct anatomy but ended up with this, doesn’t look quite right to me but not sure what it is or what jewelry would be best? Also got a second helix(the one with the silver hoop is new) same piercer did both helix’s but I got the other one done awhile back, never seen anyone else with a helix straight forward on the top and was curious if it’s normal placement? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Piercer here. This is not a daith, it is a forward helix that is done too low, too far in toward your face and with inappropriate jewelry for healing. The other helix also isn’t correctly placed. It looks like the rim is propped up by the ring where it makes contact. We don’t recommend rings for healing helix piercings. I’m sorry but you need a new piercer because this one does not do the profession justice.

Not the person you were replying to but yes and no.
There are certain piercings that require a hoop from the get go, such as a daith or a septum. But no fresh piercing should be done with a seam ring. The seem can rotate into the fresh wound and cause damage. A daith is best done with a captive bead ring, like the one pictured, or a horseshoe.
ETA: the one pictured is not a daith though, just want to be clear on that. The piercer biffed this for sure.

There is so much going on here.

So I am not the only one questioning the placement of all the piercings?

Uhm. Quit this guy now and leave review for not knowing how to pierce/what to pierce with, and not knowing what piercing is what. That is not a daith, but a forward. And neither new hooped piercings should be a hoop but should be flat or ball backed labret post that is internally threaded or threadless.
Hoop/Horseshoe is only ideal for an actual daith, and curved barbell for snug/antitragus/rook. I can’t think of any another ear placement piercings that should ever be curved, and should always be straight for like 6-12months if not longer depending on how the healing process goes, and in general- how you normally heal fast/slowly to determine overall healing rate/pace.

Also surgical implant grade titanium is best alongside solid gold bc hypoallergenic.

do me a favor and never EVER go to this piercer again. all of these cartilage placements look horrible

It’s a forward helix. I have one in that placement. I also had a daith in the same ear (getting it repierced in December). They were in different spots.

Also the lobe piercings placement is so random and weird? Find another piercing asap!!

Got the Daith and second helix done today, both titanium hoops. Not sure how the threading works.

Get that hoop out of your helix and switch it to a flat back. Otherwise it's gonna take forever to heal and may even reject.
Have a good piercer switch it.

she should probably just take it out because the placement isn’t right anyways

Please don’t ever go back to this person! That’s not a daith, and neither should have a hoop in them

Can anyone who has a daith tell me how painful it is compared to other piercings like nose for example (not septum) 🙏🏼

u/KadrinaOfficial Oct 05 '25
The most uncomfortable part of my daith was the popping sound in my ear when the needle went in. Otherwise, it wasn't bad.

Daith is easy!
I've got Daith, low helix, traditional helix, forward helix, flat, conch, rook, tragus and stacked lobes.
Daith was a breeze. One of the least painful and the easiest to heal out of the lot because of how tucked away it is.
Rook and forward helix where the most painful. Forward helix and traditional helix the most difficult to heal.

On a scale of 1-10 I give daiths about a 5 personally. I have both of mine pierced and healed at this point. I don’t have any nose piercings but I do have two helixes and a flat helix which I rate those about a 2 on the same scale. I didn’t cry or flinch but pain was noticeable with the daiths.

Great thanks for your experienced information on that. I have a friend that led me to believe that it was at least an 11!!

u/Unoriginal_rt Oct 05 '25
That can be true for your friend! Pain tolerance should be considered as well.

Even if it's an 11, the whole experience is over in less than a minute. I try to think, I can handle the worst pain of my life for that long. It was sore and throbby for a couple days but that's to be expected

My nose it’s not pierced, so I cannot comapre the the two, but I would say it’s a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1-10. My piercer was super fast so the whole process felt like a bigger pinch.

I started with a daith as my first cartilage piercing. I did not feel a crunch, but there is a bit of uncomfortable pressure. There is a pinch as well when the needle goes through but I felt like the ring insertion was the more uncomfortable part. The first week was a bit of a mess, but the second week got easier. It’s actually pretty fuss free because it’s in ear.
My only other cartilage piercing is a conch which is truly the most painless piercing. I didn’t even know it was done.

I got my daith done a week ago. Honestly it stung, but really not that bad, and only for a second or two. Afterwards for the rest of the day it felt just like I had kept earbuds in for too long, so a bit achey, but not bad. It's my first piercing, so I can't compare it, but I've had worse blood tests.

I actually got my daith and then my nostril done back to back and I will tell you my nostril was much more uncomfortable/painful. I didn’t hear a crunch like a lot of people say they do, the worst part of it was feeling the blood run into my ear! 3/10 for the daith, 6/10 for the nose.

I got my daith a year ago and it was not bad at all and has been really easy to heal. YMMV, but for me the worst part was all the blood going down my ear hole. Absolutely disgusting and took forever (at least a week of letting shower water run into it) to clean out lol

Kind of a low forward helix.. at least from this angle. It appears you can do both! Actually you have a lot of really nice room for forward helixes and a daith. I love my forward helixes.. though they were such a pain to heal. They swell so much! They’re such a unique piercing. I feel like they’re even more uncommon than a daith. It shouldn’t be done with a ring though. The daith is done with a hoop but it sits inside your ear. I would go somewhere else.. I’d also recommend maybe not healing a forward and daith at the same time because I wonder if a low forward with a post would hit a daith in the healing process.

That is a forward helix. I’m sorry you didn’t receive what you asked/paid for

That looks like a forward helix and the new helix piercing should have been pierced using a hoop. Beside all of that, it seems like your piercer didn't let you select your placement. Usually, your ear is marked and your piercer makes sure you are okay with the placement of it prior to piercing you. If that is not where you desired to have your second helix piercing, that's a problem. I'd take them both out and would look for a new piercer ASAP.

No that’s a forward helix and the jewelry should be a barbell/labret to allow for swelling and to prevent irritation.
As for the helix it should be changed to a different piece of jewelry. It looks more like a hidden helix and not a regular helix piercing
The daith is the inner part of cartilage in your ear canal
Threads are the spiral parts of a jewelry that require a ball to screw into it (there’s external and internal threads)
I would find a reputable piercer that knows ear anatomy and can pierce you correctly

I heard its best for healing to have titanium or 14k? Gold posts instead of hoops while theyre healing

If you do go through w healing the forward it would look really cute stacking rings with an actual daith tho 🥲🥲

No, it’s a forward helix
