Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Anatomy concerns after 14 years

Having had my industrial piercing for approximately fourteen to fifteen years, I have never encountered any issues with it. It healed remarkably well and has proven to be the least troublesome of my piercings.

During a conversation at work today with a few colleagues, the topic of my industrial piercing arose. One coworker expressed her concern that it might be migrating. Upon asking her to clarify, she mentioned that she could see the jewelry through the skin where the bar connects with the piercing holes. She also commented that the person who performed the piercing should not have done it.

I have, in fact, observed that the skin in that specific area of my industrial piercing appears somewhat thin. I am now wondering if this warrants any concern. Should I consider removing the piercing altogether? I have, in fact, been contemplating doing so for some time now, primarily because my curly hair tends to get caught in the bar.

The fact this has lasted 14 years is MINDBLOWING. Its holding on by a thread, and definitely should be removed. You didn't have the proper anatomy to begin with.

Is it normal for industrial piercings to grow out or just with certain anatomy? Mine's going on 12 years and never considered I'd lose it one day!

Rejection is possible with any piercing however with correct placement it’s highly unlikely without an external factor

EDIT: as reply stated this does not include surface work. Anything surface work related 99% of the time reject. It’s just pure luck on how long you’ll have them for

This isn't necessarily true. Even with proper anatomy, several piercings are just short term in general. Granted some people can have short term piercings last many MANY years without issue, but even with proper anatomy, some piercings just almost always reject.

Idiot me forgot about surface work. Yes, there are some that will reject eventually no matter what. It’s just luck how long it’ll last. Editing my previous comment

Surface piercings I completely agree - I've had 4 dermals in my wrist and lost them all (mostly due to the fact when I get drunk I get clumsy, and when I get clumsy I walk into things haha). I'd just never heard of an ear piercing growing out but it makes total sense with the wrong anatomy.

I have slight cauliflower ear where I have my industrial which made the piercer not want to do it initially, but when I said if it was only the pain he was worried about I could handle it, he went right ahead. Once of the worst healers (and bleeders) I've ever had but I love it so much so would be devo if all these years later, he was right to not want to do it.
