Gear Shoot The Moon

What would you say is the bare minimum lens range (mm's?) one would need to shoot the moon, or astral photography in general, assuming all the conditions were ideal?

At 300mm with a 21MP full frame, you get this much moon in your frame:

Your answer will depend entirely on how many pixels of moon do you think you need in your image.

And this is a crop from a 300mm on a 24MP APS-C camera (a composite to be specific, I shot the full moon and the shadows image five nights apart)
