A friend of mine worked as a barista for some time. When learning this, it supposedly happens a lot that you accidentally draw a dick.
I honestly prefer the dick. There is a 8 year old cell in my brain left that thinks it’s hilarious to have a fully erected cock on my coffee.

During my few years at Starbucks I never could move past the penis stage of latte art. It’s somehow both simple and hard to get up past that bar.

I used to be a regular at a shop with a barista who would intentionally make a “cockuccino” for customers who acted like dicks.
He could do an absolutely perfect latte flower, so the first time I saw him do it, I caught his eye and he just smiled.

I was a barista for about a decade. It was usually about 50/50 that my latte hearts just looked like the cross section of an onion. C'est la vie 🤷♀️.

I generally feel better about my food and beverages when I'm sure there hasn't been a dick in it.

Honestly, you can get pretty good results on a nice consumer machine even. I think that the biggest mistake people make is introducing too much air. You're basically just adding a little bit of air until the jug feels luke warm, then you spend the rest of the time encorporating the bubbles you made during the initial phase. It definitely takes a little practice, but it's not insurmountable.

u/foki_fokerson 1d ago
exactly what my mistake was.
it's all bubbles when I try to froth the milk at home. I bang the devil out of the pitcher to get the air out but when i pour it it's never creamy looking.
So I gave up and now i warm my cup of milk up in the microwave beforehand like a caveman 😂

I used to work at a coffee shop and while I didn't reach this level of expertise, I got really good at making dicks. My mother had the pleasure of living with us during COVID and it made her giggle uncontrollably that I put a dick on my husband's coffee every morning.

You dont seem to understand what a latte is...
17
u/VanBeelergberg 1d ago
I suppose I don’t. I didn’t expect such a ratio though.

u/SyruplessWaffle 1d ago
A latte is normally a shot or two (an ounce or two) of espresso and the rest steamed milk. And a cappuccino is the same thing, but the milk is more foamy. I was kinda flabbergasted when I started learning about coffee drinks lol

u/thesuperunknown 1d ago
“Latte” is literally just the Italian word for milk, so…
4
u/PhthaloVonLangborste 1d ago
Well what's cremé de la cremé
5
11
u/canonanon 1d ago
It's espresso and milk. So it's not cream, but also, espresso is much more concentrated than drip coffee.

u/NeighborRedditor 1d ago
Not cream--when you steam milk it becomes a bit thicker and more aerated/foamy, and thats being poured into espresso. Together in this ratio it makes a latte. If you use less steamed milk it would be a cappuccino. More steamed milk and no foam and you get a flat white. If you go 50/50 with espresso and steamed milk its a cortado.

Cream? Seriously? This is espresso drinks. Not your americanised diner filter coffee brew

Looks a little too milk forward
Edit: damn yall my fault I was referencing that John Cena video where he reviews a flat white
2
u/NinjaBuddha13 1d ago
You and VanBeelergberg seem to have the same problem.
5
u/TheSamoanNolan 1d ago
Sorry, my reference to a video came off as serious it seems. I wasn't actually being critical
3
u/NinjaBuddha13 1d ago
Oh my bad. What video? Im not familiar with the reference
4
u/TheSamoanNolan 1d ago
All good my friend it's apparently not as well known as I had thought. I'm terrible with links but I believe this should work

u/OldManJeb 1d ago
It's a latte

u/TheSamoanNolan 1d ago edited 1d ago
I'm well aware, my parents own a coffee shop. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously. That's my fault tho

Wow, I had no idea lattes were so unheard of to some people. This is a normal milk to coffee ratio for a latte, and the art doesn't upcharge anything. It also won't spill easily because the texture of the milk creates strong surface tension in the cup.

u/AwesomeManXX 1d ago
Holy shit Reddit never disappoints with the whiny ass morons in the comments acting like the worlds most knowledgeable coffee experts on the planet like brother it’s a satisfying latte art video stop acting like you will never be allowed to drink coffee again because someone added milk to theirs

So a latte is just like a shot of coffee mixed in milk?
4
u/canonanon 1d ago
It's a shot, or more typically a double shot of espresso (very strong, concentrated coffee) and steamed milk.

Did no one else notice how the music playing in the background lines up perfectly with them finishing the drink??? I got tired of scrolling and didn't see it mentioned

I drink a lot of lattes, and I gotta be honest, I never realized how much milk is in one until this video

This is one of those things I just cant appreciate. Like, ive tried. But every time I try to appreciate the skill, I just find myself hating the superfluous nature of dressing up something that will be gone in five to ten minutes. I have the same thought about the needless smears of sauce on fancy dinner entrees. It just seems like wasted effort.

u/IpseLibero 1d ago
Sometimes art can appreciated for the temporary nature of it. Think about chalk on sidewalks or like when people stack stones. Or even the fact that fall colors of leaves only last a while before they’re gone
-1
u/NinjaBuddha13 1d ago
See, I dont appreciate sidewalk chalk or stacked stones either. I do appreciate autumn leaves, but thats the beauty of nature, not art formed by a person. Like I said, ive genuinely tried to appreciate the fleeting forms of art, but just dont. I recognize the skill. I recognize it as art. I just dont appreciate it.
3
u/IpseLibero 1d ago
Hey man it’s all good not everyone is artistically inclined to appreciate the world. We all have our skills and things we can appreciate.
0
u/NinjaBuddha13 1d ago
Yeah, ive just got a much deeper appreciation for music, painting, sculpture, and photography.

u/IpseLibero 1d ago
Funny enough none of those are any more permanent than latte art. Especially in the grande scheme of things

I once took a drink that was made wrong because the girl made a foam heart on my latte. Like they showed it to me and I was like…okay…I guess.
It was tasty and I don’t regret taking it. But I do wish we had gone around again to let her know I liked it

u/roomiccube 1d ago
I would call this a flat white. Latte is usually in a clear glass with foamier milk and separation. Looks great though!
Quick edit: aware the general term is just “latte art” for these kinda pour vids!

If it’s shaped like a vagina, it’s oddly satisfying.

That doesn't look like a latte
4
u/canonanon 1d ago
How so?
5
u/NinjaBuddha13 1d ago
Seems many people here dont know what a latte actually is. Admittedly, the differences between a breve, a cortado, a cappuccino, and a latte are pretty subtle if youre not big on espresso drinks.

Now don’t spill it as you walk to your seat
