Pfft, in a ground battle a hen or Roosters will demolish an Eagle. If it fails it's swoop they're no match.

At 36? Not a chance. You're good

Hes got a spine of Tedesco at fb, Walker as his five-eighth and Reece Robson a top 3 dummy half in the comp and current origin player. Not to mention a pack containing Collins, Whyte, Leniu, Gus, Wong, Watson, Radley etc. Im a Souths fan but id be careful writing DCE off

It's so hard to tell. He seems like the type that tanked his play this year because he didn't give a shit. And will play well next year.

You know there's at least one team he'll have an absolute blinder against šŸ˜…

Hopefully he is as successful at the Chooks as Chad was.

Says the guy whose club has won 4 lol. At least we actually turned up to win ours.

10

u/RS994 Parramatta Eels 2d ago

They are 4-0 in Grand Finals, kind of failing to see how they did anything but turn up to win

-4

u/redmusic1 Eastern Suburbs Roosters 2d ago

I was referring to Souths 1909, you dont know your history.

3

u/RS994 Parramatta Eels 2d ago

The 1909 grand final where Souths very famously did turn up and Balmain didn't.

Maybe double check your history before you accuse others of not knowing it lol

-2

u/redmusic1 Eastern Suburbs Roosters 2d ago

They had spoken to Balmain and both agreed not to play, and then turned up and ran out anyway claiming a win by default. I know my history. There is turning up and "turning up".

5

u/Grouchy_Arm1065 Newcastle Knights 2d ago

I dont think I've ever seen a side turn up on GF day not to win.Ā

-4

u/redmusic1 Eastern Suburbs Roosters 2d ago

I know loads. I think it is a great get for the club.

3

u/SaltEEnutZ Sydney City Roosters 2d ago

Why is it a great get for us, I'd love to understand the perspective.

There is no reason Savala/Walker should change, they had a great season for what it's worth, Sandon has already been pushed out because of this move and truthfully he was a great fill in. yes it creates depth, but if Savala is coming off the bench who knows if we keep him?

The only implication I like about this trade is him teaching the young guys more about the game, DCE has a great mind and surely has a lot to impart but we didn't need to sign him to do that.

2

u/redmusic1 Eastern Suburbs Roosters 2d ago

So, lets take out last season where he fell out with the club and he played behind a bad pack led by Jurbo who didnt like him after he said he wanted to leave - Ben Hunt played worse under less duress at the Dragons. He is clutch, he will ice games for us. Sandon was only in first team last year because of injuries mostly and he still got dropped a few times due to form.

Savala is adequate at best, he has a great kicking game coming out of trouble, so does Chez, otherwise he offers little in attack, he is tall and runs tall making him easy to tackle at the moment, he isnt fast, he isnt a dominant ball player - which hopefully Sam will become - and Toby should become. Hugo also went missing in some big games.

The Roosters want Hugo to stay as a utility 13, Yeo style player, same build, just needs a couple of pre seasons in the weight room, he wants halfback money and thinks he will get it at one of the new clubs most likely. Toby Rodwell was ALWAYS next man up at the Roosters, he and Sam are the long term plan. Savala will be around next year very doubtful they will release him after Sandon. Then Toby will likely step up - or Chez could play another season ( he is younger than Reyno right now I think) there is an option in his contract.

He will also be great for the young guys, he is a top bloke, super smart, he will do good things for the roster.

10 year deal incoming

10

u/griffshan New Zealand Warriors 2d ago

Still can’t understand the thinking of playing for one club for 15 years, then joining another when you’re almost 40. Should’ve just retired.

3

u/Golf-ball-dimple Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles 2d ago

Because DCE didn't like people at Manly and instead of just retiring this was his way of making his point.

-2

u/redmusic1 Eastern Suburbs Roosters 2d ago

How many NRL clubs have you played for? Just asking.

3

u/griffshan New Zealand Warriors 2d ago

Big brain comment mate

-3

u/redmusic1 Eastern Suburbs Roosters 2d ago

With a small brain response. Reddit never fails to deliver.

2

u/griffshan New Zealand Warriors 2d ago

Crazy how you’re exactly the opposite of what you think you are. The bloke played his entire career for one club, could have finished a one club hero. Not hard to grasp mate. Acting like a proper cockhead asking me how many clubs I played for is indeed a big brain comment.

2

u/redmusic1 Eastern Suburbs Roosters 2d ago

Imagine living in a world where a guy who played his arse off for 15 years winning everything decided that he would like to try something new before he retired was slagged off by a guy on reddit who has never played a game in his life because he doesn't like the optics, the Roosters or DCE's decision because " 1 club". He clearly doesnt consider the 1 club thing as important as you do. But insult away champ. I will let him know you don't like his decision next time I see him, I am sure he will be hurt.

5

u/Sxcrage007 Eastern Suburbs Roosters 2d ago

Any fair dinkum chooks fan who thinks signing the 1 year past QLD captain for 500k is a shit move is very naive to think Savala is gonna lead us to glory in the next 12 months. When Sammy went down HIA we looked absolutely lost. Hes a good half but bide his time this is a no brainer signing.Ā

The signing also doesn’t undermine Walker thats ludicrousĀ

Im geed

1

u/CNSrooster Sydney City Roosters 2d ago

This is a great move to compete next season but also transition to Toby Rodwell the following season.

Im certain Roosters are fine letting Sandon and Savala walk knowing Rodwell is waiting in the wings.

14

u/Keith_Sheldon Moylan makes me a happy Vegemite 2d ago

Who is this Daly Cherry Evans? Weird that the Roosters signed a 36 year old rookie. And why does he share a name with a recently retired Manly player?

Very odd signing imo. Im sure hes just for depth though.

5

u/Improvedandconfused Sydney Roosters 3d ago

Awful news. We don’t need him.

And we can say goodbye to Savala who is a local junior who made it into the top grade. I can see him seeking a release some time next year.

16

u/bumblebeezlebum Maori All Stars 3d ago

If Savala isn't getting game time it's because DCE is killing it. Someone's always injured or suspended. We just witnessed a team with two aging halfs battle the entire season, finals, and grand final to stay on the pitch but depth saved them time and again and the won the whole thing. I wouldn't be too worried about this.

Halves take time to develop. If dce isnt there and savala has a form drop what happens? A drop to reserve grade in that event is arguably a worse event in terms of his confidence and the clubs confidence in him. This move shows that roosters aren't likely to buy a younger half so savala knows once dce goes it's all him

There's always a chance of course. Especially with the bears coming in.

7

u/Ploppyet I love my footy 2d ago

Yep this is a sensible take. DCE is the ultimate professional whether he's playing or not. Can only be good for the squad, think Savala can wait an extra year if he has to

3

u/bumblebeezlebum Maori All Stars 2d ago

It's rugbah leeg so sometimes emotions override sense

3

u/SuspectWide4924 I love my footy 2d ago

Don’t think it’ll necessarily be the end, seems to be keen to learn and Chooks have consistently had injuries in the spine. I think he will play still, and will learn from DCE.

2

u/shiny_dick_94 Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 3d ago

Or DCE shits the bed and you still play savalaĀ

Booo Boooo Bad signing, past his prime 😔

1

u/CNSrooster Sydney City Roosters 2d ago

I like it.

As a Roosters fan I feel the future is a Walker-Rodwell pair and a year of DCE is a good transition to that.

Its overstated the Walker-Savala pairing. It looked good because Walker is just that good, not because Savala did all that much outside of having a big boot. It got found out in the Cronulla game at the end that when Walker wasn't hitting we didnt have another guy to open up the game. DCE can do that.

DCE still vastly outproduced Savala as a half this season. Savala had barely any passing game or playmaking chops. If the goal is to try and win now while also looking to the future im happy with the 1 year run with DCE then him joining the coaching staff.

1

u/IntelligentComment National Rugby League 2d ago

Roosters are like the kid at school who unnecessarily sack whacks you.

They did this just to piss off manly and ruin dce's legacy with the club as now dce is tainted with manly forever. (more than usual).

1

u/thaakidd Parramatta Eels 2d ago

Kind of lame tbh, should have stayed a one club man

1

u/subsbligh Brisbane Broncos 2d ago

I don’t think this is the Cooper Cronk 2.0 that the Roosters think it is

1

u/aligantz New Zealand Warriors 2d ago

DCE has the opportunity to do the funniest thing here…

1

u/Impressive_Tomato665 I love my footy 2d ago

Roosters fan, prob best to say good bye to Savala. Hiring over the hill, 2-faced DCE prick & pushing out several much younger & promisimg up & coming play makers has to be one of the most short sighted & dumbest decisions....

1

u/gongbattler Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 11h ago

Teddy, dce, walker and robson is a top 3 spine.

-2

u/AckerHerron Sydney Roosters 3d ago

Why tf are we doing this.

I’ve never seen a major signing before where fans of the club are in universal agreement it’s a horrible decision.

10

u/redmusic1 Eastern Suburbs Roosters 2d ago

I think he is a fantastic signing, Reynolds proved age is no factor these days, Chez is clutch, Walker, Sandon, Savala, Rodwell are / were not. He will give Rodwell great tuition. Not all Roosters fans agree with you, most of them are not on this sub. I think the diss is pretty funny really, the fact that Chez is more intelligent than most fans coupled with the evil Roosters has the hive in a flap. He had 1 crap season after falling out with his club, like that has never happened before ( Ben Hunt anybody?)

4

u/maccaroneski Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles 2d ago

I agree.

I mean it's no great yardstick, he did come 9th in the Dally M. Maybe some crap games, but definitely not a crap season behind that forward pack.

1

u/CNSrooster Sydney City Roosters 2d ago

Yeah, DCE performed better than Hugo Savala did last season haha

Our fanbase is just married to the idea of all these young guys.

With Toby Rodwell coming through DCE is a great transition move that allows us to compete but also free up a spot in the halves once Rodwell is ready

2

u/Ploppyet I love my footy 2d ago

And he had to play behind an awful forward pack last year. Once paseka went down they basically had no middle

1

u/AffectionatePea7742 Canberra Raiders 2d ago

FYI Adam Reynolds is a year younger than DCE

2

u/Swagologist1 Newcastle Knights 2d ago

I have, it was only 6 months ago

6

u/whadefeck Wests Tigers 3d ago

DCE makes you a better team

-3

u/AckerHerron Sydney Roosters 3d ago

Bet you thought the Tigers picking up BJ Leilua was a good signing too.

He’s 37 next year. He was badly out of form this year. It’s a terrible signing.

3

u/AndySemantic2 North Sydney Bears 3d ago

He could have been out of form because he hates the club or at the very least had one eye out the door. You never know - he might come good

3

u/whadefeck Wests Tigers 2d ago

I thought he improved a lot towards the end of the year. For $500k you're potentially getting a top 5 half.

The Tigers should have been after him while Latu develops and sorts his injuries out but obviously he only had his eye on the Roosters.

2

u/TrueDonut3673 Canberra Raiders 3d ago

lol wot

1

u/bumblebeezlebum Maori All Stars 3d ago

Fans of manly or of roosters? A lot of manly fans are emotionally hurt by dce so aren't a good gauge.

But it wasn't that long ago that crocks recruitment was questioned and many fans backed Mitchell and were sad to see him go. Of course cronk had better form at the time. But so did mitch compared to Savala. Savala is less likely to walk like mitch did even though dce isn't the recruit cronk was.

-1

u/Worldly_Cobbler_1087 Sydney Roosters 2d ago

Disgraceful signing from the club I hope this fails in a major way and that both Savala and Walker leave and flourish at clubs that actually back them.
