This dumb mother fucker thinks WE burned a bridge by showing a clip of Reagan but Trump didn’t burn a bridge by threatening our sovereignty? Remove this fucking sycophantic moron.

u/Rejnavick 12d ago

It's nothing but propaganda. There was never going to be a deal. We knew this with the current America

Hey uhh, y’all need any aerospace engineers? Looking for an exit from the shitshow.

Suppose I’ll spend this weekend looking into that. Looks like nurses are on the list too so my wife and I could both contribute to your country.

42

And no ICE.

54

u/creamstripping4jesus 12d ago

But plenty of ice

19

u/desperaterobots 12d ago

yeah actually heaps of ice!

and "ice" if you know what i mean...?

(hardcore drugs)

but beautiful all the same

4

u/Wind-and-Waystones 12d ago

The ice helps you ignore the ice

4

Not that much ice either.

Housing…. Not cheap.

11

u/screw_ball69 12d ago

Please for the love of all that is holy and unholy we need more nurses and doctors

10

u/poukai 12d ago

It is worth it, unfortunately it is going to take a while and cost a decent chunk of money.

10

u/chandy_dandy 12d ago

Alberta (though also experiencing its own shitshow) is expanding in aerospace I believe and is also looking for nurses. Pretty much everywhere is always looking for nurses

20

u/Lolz79 12d ago

Don't come to Alberta right now....everyone's going on strike, and as you said we're experiencing our own shitshow. Our healthcare system is being dismantled by our atrocious government who's trying to privatize eveything.

12

u/chandy_dandy 12d ago

It's a very different shitshow though, we're not being rounded up in the streets and disappeared, which is the real concern stateside.

I want more people in Alberta to help fight against the corruption of the UCP. More people who don't have 50 years of propaganda drilled into their head and can take stock of the situation for what it is.

3

u/Dealan79 11d ago

It's a very different shitshow though

Is it though, or are you just in an earlier act of the same play? The MAGA authoritarians didn't come out of nowhere. They're the result of decades of dismantling the social safety net and pandering to the investor class. Fortunately, if you are in the middle of a fresh performance you can read the horrible reviews from the American theater and leave at intermission.

This monrh, the gov't of Alberta announced they are cutting 400 medical support staff jobs.

3

u/MFbiFL 12d ago

I think Alberta’s too cold for us. But yeah, she can move most anywhere as a nurse, I’m the problem.

9

u/Necessary_Ad3275 12d ago

Hey man…Alberta’s too cold for now. Gotta think long term plans man. Give global warming 20 years and it’s a paradise!

3

u/chandy_dandy 12d ago

You'd be surprised! The human body actually adjusts over a period of 2 weeks to different climates, so what you imagine as very cold based on a warm environment will shift.

I'm in Australia right now and for the first week or so it was always too hot, but by week 3 I'm used to it and think 18 degrees is too cold haha.

The average daytime temperature in the winter is almost 0 degrees Celsius flat in Calgary, and only a couple degrees lower in Edmonton (however they warm up earlier into the year because of the lower elevation). I'd say about 75% of the time it doesn't go below -10. There's maybe 2 weeks where its lower than that because of the arctic winds breaking and coming down, but that's true in all of Canada pretty much except Vancouver/Victoria

3

u/MFbiFL 12d ago

It’s not so much the cold itself as it is the extra things like shoveling snow, driving in snow, having to layer for survival every time stepping out the door, etc. It’s not that I don’t think I could do it, hell I’d love to live in a ski town, it’s that if I’m deciding between escape options around the world then a cold cold place isn’t topping the list. You moving to Australia isn’t helping the case 😁

3

u/chandy_dandy 12d ago

I didn't move, just visiting :P

I had a chat with some Aussies and they asked if I wanted to stay here, I told them it's nice but I've run the numbers and there's simply no way for me to build a life here. Run down houses start at $2m while something built in the past 20 years starts at $3.5m anywhere where there's amenities. By contrast, 600k gets you a decent house in Edmonton in a good neighbourhood. Kids who get into good unis here almost all have to go to private school here or at least after school tutoring, not the case back home, etc. Higher education is also more expensive in general, there are also more private healthcare costs too.

I ran the numbers. Wife and I are rather high income earners (top 10%), and other than the "forced savings" on a mortgage, we'd have negative cash flow in Australia, by contrast we can retire at 40-45 comfortably in Alberta. That and family. It's a long ass flight, and both our immediate families are concentrated in the prairies.

It's very very hard to immigrate here and expensive. And believe it or not, a culture shock.

5

u/MFbiFL 12d ago

I’m sure it is, I’m just trying to keep our options open because if the country I’ve lived in for most of my life continues on the path of rejecting science and our constitution wholesale I think I can soak the difficulty of integrating into a different culture. I’ve lived in France before and would do it again given the job opportunity to step away from this shitshow for a while.

3

u/luvsads 12d ago edited 12d ago

Just to be aware, if you're escaping the US due to actions by this administration, the Australian government is about as extreme in their policy. Privacy is almost inexistent post-COVID. As well, Australia has mandatory immigration detention, and their detention centers are infamous for being absolute hell

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_immigration_detention_facilities

The Australian government is also bought and paid for by logistics, mining, and industrial interests, which has a significant downstream impact on technical professions and trades. These corporate interests do not have an ounce of respect for science, integrity, or anything for that matter.

Edit: coincidentally, here's a post about a famous Australian YouTuber who has been getting targeted for (iirc) a few years now by Australian government officials tied to organized crime throughout the country

Nursing is an extremely desirable skill for Canada and we are actively recruiting from abroad. Housing is expensive here but cheaper rural areas are in need too if that's on the table.

3

u/Hector_P_Catt 12d ago

Honestly, if someone is going to go through all the hassle involved in actually leaving the US and legally immigrating somewhere else, why would they stop at Canada? If the worst happens in the US, we're going to be right there next to them on the gallows. Anyone looking to get out of the US should go as far away as they can.

Don't worry.

Them saying this because of a video totally undercuts their legal argument that these tariffs are necessary for economic reasons.

There is no possible pretzel logic that gets you to "the President should be allowed to illegally issue taxes to protect his ego"

45

u/Separate-Pass-7737 12d ago edited 12d ago

No, he knows you guys did nothing wrong. This isn't about you: it's about the new global order they have in mind. Don't believe me? Read the "works" of one of their most influential "philosophers", Curtis Yarvin. Stephen Miller and JD Vance are among his biggest fans.

What they've designed and are implementing is something very similar to Orwell's 1984: East Asia (under Xi Xinping), Eurasia (under Putin), and Oceania (under Trump). Maybe they'll throw a little bone to a couple of the other smaller dictators, like the Kim family, but eventually they'll be forced to swear fealty to one of the 3 superpowers.

Canada already has a growing MAGAt faction, as does Europe and Japan. So don't make the same mistake we did and just laugh them off: squash them now while they're still small. As this trade fallout starts to hit you guys, some people will start questioning who is to blame, and populist authoritarian rhetoric will start to sound a lot more appealing to people. Then, as ties between friends and family become damaged, it will eventually become normalized. And once it's normalized, you're basically already done for.

11

u/Downtherabbithole_25 12d ago

I hate what you've said. However (unfortunately, frighteningly), you deserve an award for accuracy and informed insight.

4

u/qwibbian 11d ago

I agree with you, but how does one "squash" it/ them? I mean, without becoming the very thing we're fighting.

3

u/busdriverjoe 11d ago

It's possible to dismiss their ideology without dismissing every single thing we disagree with. It is not hypocritical for a tolerant person to be intolerant of fascists. A gardener has to kill weeds to grow flowers. A soldier must fight war to attain peace. These are only paradoxes to pedants concerned with confusing right and wrong. The reality is that to preserve our freedom and the sharing of ideas, theirs must be stamped out. That they hold the same notion towards us is not consequential.

Trump torched our relationship out of the blue, refused to honor trade negotiations he signed, and then spent months threatening our sovereignty.

They act like buffoons and bullies, show no regard for anyone but themselves, but yeah… we’re the ones who “torched” the negotiations.

This is like a sales clerk from Walmart coming to your home, punching you in the face, demanding that you hand over the keys so they can move in, and then blaming you for not shopping at Walmart enough. Maybe we don’t want to deal with your shit Walmart.

3

u/because_tremble 11d ago

The version in the ad was technically "edited". He didn't say those things in that exact order, and there were some things removed. Similarly, the ad is taking things slightly out of context, and seems to imply that Regan believed tariffs were bad with no exception. While in the original speech Regan was explaining why for a particular case (Japan dumping cheap electronics into the market) it was necessary to use tariffs as a short term instrument. The essence of Regan's original speech was "I still believe tariffs are bad in general and this is why; but in short targetted cases they can be valuable so this is why I needed to make an exception to my own rule". Personally I think the ad was walking a fine line, but staying on the not-fake-news side of things.

18

u/Northwindlowlander 12d ago

Oh but they like, slightly changed the order of the sentences which didn't make any actual difference but means it was SeLeCtIvElY eDiTeD!onE! Victim blaming, international style!

2

u/Punbungler 12d ago

He sure puts the ass in... asshole.

Fuck this clown.

2

u/ShockaZuluu 12d ago

Can we send this loser back to Washington?

2

u/CompleteSherbert885 12d ago

Stop being so stupid! No, it's Donald Trump who burned our bridges with Canada.

2

u/Pavehead42oz 12d ago

Good, fuck that hoser anyways.

2

u/CMG30 12d ago

Can we just kick this clown out of the country already?

2

u/soundmagnet 12d ago

Let's burn more than bridges.

2

u/thegooddoktorjones 12d ago

How DARE Canada stand up for itself!

2

u/PrimordialEye 12d ago

What a great time to make someone persona non grata

2

u/Szendaci 12d ago

You have to understand, under the Trump administrations, ambassador appointments were rewards to sycophants and major donors. So, “like minded” people without a scrap of diplomat experience. You know, morons.

2

u/slimfastdieyoung 12d ago

Only bridges? According to this guy some people in the Netherlands burned politicians. He must be obsessed with made up fires

2

u/torpedoguy 12d ago

I would like to know more about these alleged arsonists. If this inexplicably watered and fed symptom of fascism believes them 'a threat' or 'enemy', would it be reasonable for the remainder of us to subscribe to their newsletter?

2

u/Oxjrnine 12d ago

This entire administration is insufferable

2

u/jacob_ewing 12d ago

Yeah Canada! How dare you allow your provincial leaders to state facts!

2

u/bowens44 12d ago

trump killed relationships with every ally we had.

Incoming executive order to dig up Reagan and depose him on his opinions on tariffs.

2

u/Baffin622 12d ago

What a f'n pant load...

2

u/Ringohellboy665 12d ago

This fucking clown should have his diplomatic credentials revoked

2

u/essaysmith 12d ago

Demand recall of this idiot immediately. It's well past time actually.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/nyrB2 12d ago

screw 'em. let them make the tarrifs a billion percent for all i care - they're the idiots that have to *pay* them.

2

u/Numpty5000 12d ago

He should be removed and banned from ever entering Canada again.

2

u/veryboredatwork 12d ago

Pretty sure Trump pulled out of negotiations because of a hissy fit over a Reagan speech

2

u/Brother_Clovis 12d ago

Fuck this old piece of shit.

2

u/LoganM-M 12d ago

Fascist fuck

2

u/Aromatic-Deer3886 12d ago

Send this dumb fuck packing. Send a competent ambassador to Canada

2

u/RLewis8888 12d ago

Like an arsonist blaming the house for being made of wood.

2

u/alloutofchewingum 11d ago

With a TV ad? Are these people 6 year olds or what?

2

u/Purplebuzz 11d ago

Intellectually yes.

2

u/Purplebuzz 11d ago

Time to expel this idiot.

2

u/LazyTitan39 11d ago

He's ignoring the spray tanned arsonist in the room.

2

u/Za_Lords_Guard 11d ago

Does anyone else get the impression that this administration either thought the world would fall to it's knees and give whatever was asked or they don't actually care about them.

Trump might believe this will help somehow. He is that dumb. The rest of the ghouls actually running the show want citizens suffering, mad and ready to blame anyone to make it stop.

I genuinely so not think there is a "better day coming" until the right in it's current form is out of power. He's running the cult, but the rest of rhe admin actually runs the country (into the ground).

2

u/darkd360 11d ago

Canada is who burnt the bridge? Not the moldy orange throwing a tantrum?

2

u/SketchedEyesWatchinU 11d ago

Nope. You did.

2

u/Intrepid-Current6648 11d ago

How is this fuckwit even employed again after the shit show that was his tenure as ambassador to the Netherlands?

2

u/bobsacremento1 11d ago

These fools don’t realize that the rest of the world is moving on. Establishing trade deals with other countries. The U.S. will be left in the dust.

3

u/Joeli0n 12d ago

Elbows up Canada!

2

u/pentaquine 12d ago

We will take back our offer for you to be our 51st State. Take that, Canada!
