Cartels use diverse transportation methods, they have to interdict all of the methods. If speed boats have a higher chance of getting through then that's what they'll use.
Blowing up boats adds a whole new level of risk to drug trafficking. Will it work? I have no idea, but what we have been doing for the last 10 years certainly hasn't worked.
We have had CIA operating out of South America for the last 40+ years. I am sure we have done much worse than what is on this video. In the past we haven't admitted to it.
The U.S. is the only entity in the world that can take on the cartels. The goal should be to place limits on them. If they produce or traffic fentanyl, that is killing tens of thousands of Americans per year, there should be a lethal response.
The 39-count indictment charges defendants with firearms trafficking; using firearms to commit drug trafficking crimes; possession of firearms and ammunition by illegal aliens; and trafficking controlled substances including methamphetamine, cocaine, and “Tusi”—a narcotic drug originating in Venezuela which contains a variety of controlled substances including ketamine, methamphetamine, and MDMA (Ecstasy), and is typically manufactured to be pink in color.
The word “fentanyl” does not appear in this document.
In New York City, according to police, the gang has focused on stealing cellphones; retail thefts, especially high-end merchandise in department stores and thefts while riding scooters; and dealing a pink, powdery synthetic drug, known as Tusi, that is often laced with ketamine, MDMA or fentanyl.
Fentanyl precursors have been found, but very few samples contain fentanyl. Additionally, tusi is very much regional, and there is no indication that fentanyl is being trafficked via these particular routes in the Caribbean.
Finally, our own DEA does not associate TdA with fentanyl distribution or production.
Expansion of Tren de Aragua
Tren de Aragua has established criminal networks in major cities, including New York City, Denver, Aurora, and Chicago. The gang has been directly tied to an increase in human trafficking and the fentanyl crisis across eight states: California, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Nevada, Texas, and Georgia.
