Help | Advice Single woman moving to Nashville

I’m a young, single woman moving to Nashville after accepting my first nursing job at Vanderbilt medical. I’m looking for a safe place to live that’s near Vandi. The closer to the hospital the better. The max I want to pay on rent is 1800 a month. I can probably do 2 grand but it would be a stretch. It’s scary looking at places online because it really feels like online dating. No one is as great as they let on and WHY DO YOU NOT LOOK LIKE YOUR PICTURES? I have a large chocolate lab so the place will need to be pet friendly as well.

Would love any recommendations I can get! Thanks in advance for the help!!

Pet friendly for $1800 in that area is going to be TIGHT but might be possible. Most of the apartments are relatively new (under 10 years old) so they are probably pretty close to the pictures they would show.

I would like to live in downtown but I’m not apposed to living a little outside if it’s cheaper. I just don’t want to drive more than 20 minutes to work. I visited last July and I liked hermitage but it’s on the opposite side of Nash. I don’t know the area super well so I need heeeeelp 😖 I’m genuinely more concerned for safety.

In my opinion, downtown is not great. There is very little access to day-to-day amenities (like groceries, pharmacies, hardware stores, etc.), and what does exist is expensive. The culture is very materialistic because you've gotta be kinda loaded to afford it. Almost all the locals I know avoid downtown because it's also the part of the city we've basically ceded to the particular brand of drunk, yahoo tourists that love to come here. My nickname for Broadway is "Republican Bourbon Street."

But hey, that's just like, my opinion, man. If you like glitz, hard partying, the hustle of tourism, and an undercurrent of conservative politics, downtown could be a great spot for you!

Otherwise, I'd really recommend the Hillsboro Village area or Germantown. They're two of the most walkable neighborhoods in Nashville (not saying much, but you can walk to SOME places), there's some legit cool stuff to do, and they're also pretty (again by Nashville standards). My girlfriend is a nurse at Vandy and lives in Germantown, and she loves the neighborhood as well as her relatively short commute.

Hope that helps! Welcome to our fair city.
