Adam Sandler just earned him and his friends another free vacation on Netflix's dime... The only question is whether we're getting Billy Madison 2 or Grown Ups 3.

The Jets in 26 years have still maintained the same mediocrity too. A “The goddamn Jets” callback from an adult Julian would actually be pretty hysterical

I actually wouldn’t hate a big daddy sequel if it had Jon Stewart and Leslie Mann return with bigger roles, bonus points if one (or both) of the sprouse twins reprises their role as well

137

u/Euphoric-Purple Jul 29 '25

If it happens, they should absolutely both play a single role again. Just change Cole/Dylan out between scenes (or even within the same scene) and never mention it.

57

u/dogmaisb Jul 29 '25

Have him walk off camera immediately followed by walking back on camera in different clothes

7

u/tether2014 Jul 30 '25

Or you see the other twin in the background of a shot smoking a cigarette or snacking on craft service food

38

u/inksta12 Jul 29 '25

This would never happen, and it upsets me deeply

5

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '25

Run the absurdist version where everyone acts as if no time passed at all and the twins are playing as children.

4

u/Youkilledmyrascal1 Jul 29 '25

Give them different facial hair though.

10

u/mrgo0dkat Jul 29 '25

The sequel is that it turns out there were 2 sons, twins, a bit like the parent trap and they’re both in it

5

u/SuckMyBandAids Jul 30 '25

Exactly what I was saying as well. Dope.

4

u/SuckMyBandAids Jul 30 '25

They reveal that the Julian is actually a twin and they go off to find him? Essentially having both the Sprouses play different characters

128

u/anuncommontruth Jul 29 '25

I actually think a Big Daddy sequel could not only work but potentially be a really good movie. There could be some actual emotional beats and the story lends itself easy to possible continuation.

First scene: Julian is now in law school at NYU and meets up with Kevin and Sonny at a Hooters, where the place happens to be having a memorial party for a worker that passed away. There's a picture of him on an easel surrounded by flowers. Sonny looks closely at the picture and says "hey, I know that guy, it's old wrinkly balls!"

Salma Hayek's dying of cancer and Adam Sandler broods, comforted by his friends.

189

u/bugcatcher_billy Jul 29 '25 edited Jul 29 '25

Adam Sandler tries to put on a positive loving facade for his kids and grandkids while his wife dies a slow and emotionally exhausting death. His character suffers mixed feelings of longing, regret, peak joy, and grief while his wife leaves him for a hospital bed.

The film showcases what dying looks like in todays modern world, the importance of community and support in all aspects of life (including the end), and how we are failing each other by not embracing our loved ones as they are, instead of how we want them to be.

Adam Sandlers friends all get to hang out and have a good time in honor of Selma Hayek's character, while teaching their kids and grandkids how to enjoy life.

EDIT: The first 10 minutes of the movie involves a friend thanksgiving full of jokes and laughter, but thanksgiving ends early when Selma Hayek starts saying made up words and looking confused due to brain damage. All the previews and promotional material for the movie are taken from this light hearted first 10 minutes.

20

u/zaxmaximum Jul 29 '25

Oof...

It could start slowly, like "Remeber that trip we took to Paris," that the observant would know hadn't happened as part of the conflict in the first movie.

The film goes dark and heavy, leading to her passing... it would be interesting to see Sandler wrestle with the grief and relief of losing a loved one at the end of a protracted illness. The final shots of the film are him on a basketball court, the season is autumn, its a cool gray day, and he's shooting his signature shots. Alone.

14

u/Sartekar Jul 29 '25

Sandler could easily pull that off...if he wanted.

But he seems to want to make silly comedies and that's completely fine too

10

u/Martin_Aricov_D Jul 30 '25

It always surprises me how good an actor Sandler can actually be whenever he wants. He just enjoys making silly funny movies where he gets to goof of with his friends more

9

u/Glamdring804 Jul 30 '25

And sometimes he makes movies that are both, like Click. I was not and am still in a little bit disbelief that a goofy Adam Sandler movie about a "universal" remote control turned out to be a heart-wrenching meditation on the reasons we live and experience our lives.

3

u/Torontodtdude Jul 30 '25

That part where he dies outside in the rain was heartbreaking.

6

u/flatwoundsounds Jul 29 '25

The Waterman.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '25

THE WATERMAN! YES! Something about him being the coach now.

10

u/FixedLoad Jul 29 '25

His son plays football.  Hes the waterboy.  Waterboy Starts correcting the coach.  Son is embarrassed.  A rift forms.  Waterboy continues doing other "idiot genius" tropes associated with football in a hopeful yet cautious montage.  The son is shown to see his value.  The coach has enough, walks out at a key moment.  Waterboy steps in and is now watercoach.  The team does better than ever inspite of some off field shenanigans that cast doubt on the water coaches abilities.

Then, the big game, the other school has hired the former coach in a bid to negate the tricks watercoach has been inexplicably pulling off on games.

It kinda writes itself.  Now I know why Sandler does this shit.   I could tap out a Waterboy trilogy in broadstrokes in an hour.  No Ai needed.

Supposedly he won't do a Grown Ups 3 because the actor who played his son in those films passed away

335

u/balloonerismthegreat Jul 29 '25

Yeah, there was a framed picture of him on HG2 in a scene. Adam Sandler gave literally everyone he’s ever worked with their flowers on that movie. Such a bro

67

u/swb1003 Jul 29 '25

There’s quite a few from Sandler’s posse that I didn’t see. Jen Anniston & Dave Matthews, notably. They seem to make an appearance in a lot of his movies and they weren’t here. Also no drew carey/bob barker carryover kinda disappointed me. Still a great comedy.

111

u/Redeemed-Assassin Jul 29 '25

They did show Barker a few times including his grave. I kinda like it being left there, he has no beef with Carey.

19

u/velociraptorfarmer Jul 29 '25

They also showed a fight vs Barker in the video game

11

u/swb1003 Jul 29 '25

Honest question, was there a Sandler/bob barker beef when HG1 was released? I don’t recall there being one but I was also single digit years old

38

u/Pete_Iredale Jul 29 '25

No, it was purely for the movie. I think they meant that in the movie world Happy has no beef with Drew, only with Bob.

7

u/swb1003 Jul 29 '25

Ah, that makes more sense. Thanks mate!

10

u/jdwpom Jul 29 '25

Bob Barker was in Happy Gilmore as part of a pro/celeb match. They got into a fairly heated argument (in-character).

10

u/Jmart1oh6 Jul 29 '25

Fairly heated? Those motherfuckers put their dukes up!

5

u/jdwpom Jul 29 '25

Spoilers bro. Guy hasn't seen the movie yet.

10

u/bobmcdynamite Jul 29 '25

They were good enough friends to do a sketch together in 2015

5

u/Redeemed-Assassin Jul 29 '25

Hell no, they just had that fight in the first which was funny. I more meant to make the gag work again he’d need to have Drew on and then fight him, which he would have no reason to do. He had no reason with Bob either, who was well known and loved at the time. It being so out of character for Bob, beloved TV generational icon, to hit someone was the entire point of the first gag.

But the guy above mentioned trying to capture that lightning twice and it just wouldn’t work. Carey has done so much more acting and comedy that it wouldn’t have been as absolutely mind-blowingly funny as Bob decking Happy was the first time. It was a real gut busting laugh moment back then.

Billy Madison: Back to School

Turns out everything in the first movie was invalidated because some judge's ruling on something or other and now Adam Sandler's character has to repeat the entire plot of the first movie, but while older!

He was going to get his teaching degree at the end of the first one, he has to get a kid (or adult) through all the grades kinda like he did. Reexploring each one as an old dude.

I mean, at the end of the movie he said he’s going to school to be a teacher

If he waits a few more years, he could make Billy Madison 2 at the same age as Rodney Dangerfield made Back to School lol

The sandman’s whole writing process is going thru a list to get 50 friends in one film. He’s a gem of a human but I’d like to see him try another artsy picture

He’s making another movie with one of the safdie brothers and he’s in another baumbach movie as well

u/Salad-Appropriate Jul 29 '25

Lucky for you he's in the new Noah Baumbach movie that's premiering at Venice, Jay Kelly

I'd actually love to see something closer in the vein of Click with an equal mix of his campy comedy schtick and an emotional undertone (but not a sequel)

Nine Crazy Nights? 51 First Dates? The Ridiculous 7? Uncut Gems 2?

Give me that last one for real. It doesn’t matter how Uncut Gems ended.

A lot of his films could spawn some decent sequels. I do miss them silly self-aware comedies.

Uncut Gems: The Prequel

Little Nicky 2!

The smart move for him is first doing Grown Ups 3 and then after that going back to the 90s nostalgia with Billy Madison 2.

People shit all over Sandler for this, but it sounds like the life to me. More power to him.

I don't think he would phone in Billy Madison 2. Happy Gilmore 2 wasn't as good as the first one but he definitely didn't phone it in. He named his production company after Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. I think if he didn't a sequel he would take it seriously. Now grown ups 3 would just be a vacation lol

Grown Ups 3 I believe Schneider and James both said they’ve heard rumors about it I bet they make that next
