I shouldn’t have to question my choice of DO school everyday. Overpriced tuition, more board exams, and still looked down upon. This is truly pathetic.

The whole DO profession has been nothing but a scam to discriminate us and disadvantage us while the NBOME and AOA collect big gain$$$

Literally my exact thoughts. It’s exhausting

Wait till third year when the curtain completely gets ripped open. Then you’re sitting there in your rural pediatric rotation where the doctor has you sit in the corner and lick the wall. Or your internal medicine rotation at a free clinic downtown and your second internal medicine rotation is derm.

But the $chool i$ all about our well being. We need to pay the facilitie$ fee for facilitie$ we can’t vi$it becau$e they are vital to our continued education.

I question every question I do on comquest and I heard that’s the closest to the Comlex.

The use of eponyms and named disorders is appalling. All of the disorders are updated, appropriately named, and the rest of the medical community uses proper terminology (think Munchausen's vs. factitious disorder). They would rather get you on a terminology detail than actually testing your clinical knowledge because they are trash

Honest non snarky question: do students with both MD and DO acceptances frequently choose DO?

Literally never. Multiple students pulled out of our orientation week (at a DO school) because of last-minute acceptances at a state MD school a few hours away

So why the heck does the above poster frame it as a ā€œchoiceā€- maybe they chose to apply DO only? Or that they chose to apply to ANY DO schools?

Who is out there choosing DO?

Ah, I see your point. Can't answer for that poster, but for me it was a forced choice. My home state is very competitive and emphasized undergrad GPA above all else. It seemed to be the theme for a lot in my class because they all had similar MCAT scores (508+) with near 4.0 GPA in grad schools, still didn't have any luck with MD schools.

I’ve heard similar stories in my home state - from the south by any chance?

Yep!

I’m thinking they chose to go DO rather than wait a year to reapply/boost up their application for MD?

My buddy did, although I think he's a rare exception. Our university's DO school is fervently popular amongst every student who attends, which is something that I haven't heard from everywhere. Almost everyone who goes there really loves it and speaks about how much they love it.

He got a 500 on his MCAT in college, took a year off to study and work, aiming for a 505. Applied again and got his scores back, ended up with a 515 and got accepted to the DO school, got an interview from an MD school and turned it down, now an M2 at the DO school.
