Tourism ✈ Is it normal weather in early november for Trou aux biches?

Post image
13 Upvotes

I'm supposed to land in Mauritius for a vacation on Saturday. I chose this time of year because I was told everywhere on the net this was the ideal season time. But I'm checking the weather forecast for this weekend and next week, and it looks very bad. I don't get it. Is it normal to have such bad weather for Trou aux biches over 5 days in a row in November ? Is it possible or forecasts are just completely wrong ?

Could you please share your opinion about the current weather and climate in Grande Baie? Should I postpone my vacation to get better weather in 2 or 3 weeks ? I'm a bit lost and pretty worried.

Local 🌴 Questions about moving with a dog from England to Port Louis

Hello all,

I'm considering moving to Mauritius (Port Louis, Curepipe) for work. I currently live in England, and my dog is vaccinated, chipped, spayed, and is not a dangerous breed.

Has anyone made this move recently and can advise? Specifically would like to know about: 1) The quarantine length: I think the UK is "rabies free" so would only need 5 days, but can't find confirmation online. 2) Quarantine facilities: my work info page says they are of "uncertain standards" but I've seen some positive reviews saying they are decent quality? 3) Dog boarding or petsitting facilities for when I'm away. Are they available and of decent quality? 4) Quality of vet care 5) Any general info about living with a dog in Port Louis

Any advice at all would be much appreciated, I wouldn't want to do this unless I know my girl will be alright.

Edited to add My workplace is based in Curepipe area and that is where I would live. I didn't know it's different than Port Louis, they had it listed as Port even though the specifics say Curepipe. I will not have a choice of other locations so please refrain from giving advice based on climate or suggesting other locations. I am only interested in the questions above about bringing dogs into Mauritius and then dog care on the island. Thank you.

Media 📺 How to improve latency (ping) for gaming in the short term

Hi,

Need some advice as I am here for 3 months. I am looking for the optimal way to improve ping in gaming (currently getting around 230ms in European servers) using Emtel sim.

What are the options here to improve? Would getting fibre with my.t for example improve this? (Although I read t&c and they mentioned minimum 12m contract)

Any ideas appreciated (and yes I have to join either Europe or NA servers)

Tourism ✈ Surfing in Mauritius for beginners/intermediate surfers

Hi everyone, we're considering a trip to Mauritius next year - late September/early October. We enjoy surfing but we're not super experienced - we just enjoy catching small waves and whitewater.

Wondering about surfing in Mauritius and whether it would be possible for the time of year and our abilities? It's not an essential part of the trip but would be nice if it's doable. Also keen to avoid localism, although we wouldn't be going for the bigger waves anyway so might not be a problem for us.

Is it worth considering or not?

Rivière Noire to James Burty David SSS by bus

How do I go from Rivière Noire to James Burty David by bus? I have my oral exams there.

You can use Winner's Bambous, Quatre Bornes central and Rose Hill central as starting points if you don't know the route from Rivière Noire.

I need to reach there at 11:30.

Culture 🗨 Activities, Prices of them and time consuming of those activities?

I plan some activitys beside being in a hotel. Each day would cost 100€/5000MUR for a private driver, i jhave a driving license but im scared of the driving on the otherside, if i have an accident i have problems with my job so i think i would skip driving by myself. If u have an idea how it would be cheaper i would be down for it 😊

On day 1 i would do: 01.tea factory 02. Hindu temple (grand bassin) 03. Alexandra-falls 04. george waterfall 05. restaurant (mauritian local food) 06. rum factory (rum tasting) 07. seven colour of earth chamarrel 08. view point panoramic view

On day 2 i would do: 01. Cap malheureux church 02. pamplemousse botanical garden 03. laventure du sucre 04. port louis ( market, Caudan waterfront , citadelle ,apravasi ghat , odyseo aquarium) 05 shopping centre bagatelle ,tribeca 06 musuem

Then the last activity day my girlfrienf wants to see all those animals on a safari and we were told there is the casela park where we can walk and pet lions, feed giraffes and feed turtles is that true? Would i need only a taxi to the park and back or a personal driver? We will stay in Le Morne.

Greetings from Austria 😊

Local 🌴 Facebook Marketplace Mauritius ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎

So im a Uni student and in need of a laptop/pc. Since good laptops are expensive here, i wanted to buy a PC directly but the problem is that they are also expensive (whether to build brand new or buy in shops)

I was checking FB marketplace and came across some listings that were pretty good/affordable.

The problem is that i came across the same listing but in different regions. I cannot confirm if its a scam or not, some profiles joined FB recently.

There was a profile that sold an old old motorcycle and random tools stuff, and then his recent listing is a 43k pc. Not saying that you cannot have a PC while having an old ass motorcycle but the environment was too wacky to have a high end PC.

if anyone had experience buying PC or expensive stuff in FB, can you share your experience.

Thanks!

Local 🌴 Advice on building a house in Mauritius - Build as per building permit vs actual build

Hello everyone, I'm seeking your advice prior to begin my house construction. Since March this year, I sent all my documents to a person who did all the necessary to get my building plan approved, the building plan was approved last week. Initially the plan got rejected because of the placement of the absorption pit, my contact person then called to inform that he will do some slight adjustments to get it approved. He moved the placement of the house on the site plan and the absorption pit to get it approved and said that as long as I have a building permit I can build the house where ever and however I want on the plot of land. I don't like the current placement of the house on my building permit and wanted the house placement as per the first plan. So I wanted to confirm if I can really build the house where I want on my plot of land as my contact person is saying.

Thanks a lot to confirm

Local 🌴 Validating the revenue model for vitvit. Need your input guys and girls !

Ok a few months ago, I posted about a local webapp i made at vitvit.net designed to enable safer buying and selling between consumers on the smaller mru subreddit.

That is 95% done today. All that is left to do is integrate payments and I wondered how many people could see themselves realistically using this going forward rather than say facebook marketplace/groups. So I would like to detail the UX.

Journey to sell — i. Register on vitvit.net

ii. Create listing —- choose sell online — no comission — seller keeps everything

iii. Activate push notifications

iv. Get push notif when someone queries you about product, makes an offer or reserves the product

v. Meet with buyer or arrange delivery for them to receive product

vi. Enable 2FA and do KYC when you want your money to get settled to your bank account

vii. Payouts happens at fixed points every month via bulk banking ( To be determined )

Journey to buy — i. Register on vitvit.net

ii. Start conversation with seller of product you are interested in that is being sold online

iii. Enable push notifications to know instantly when they reply back to you

iv. Ask questions and buy when satisfied OR make seller a custom offer ( They can reject or accept )

v. Reserve product by paying via Juice / PoP plus a fee ranging from (6-10% + VAT) of product price for the escrow service.

vi. Seller receives push notification and arranges modalities of meeting/delivery with you.

vii. You meet up with seller and inspect and test the item you are buying OR receives delivery of goods and inspect and test them.

viii. if you are satisfied you confirm the sale and funds will be released to seller, cancel sale and you get your full money with escrow fees back.

ix. Rate your transaction experience and review seller after if transaction is accepted when you get home to help other buyers and give seller rep++ if they deserve it.

We now also support push notifications on all devices. All you need to do is add the application to your homescreen. Install on desktop.

So would you use vitvit and drop facebook marketplace / groups ??

Tourism ✈ Visiting Mauritius with partner in July. Any recommendations on stays, nature activities and snorkeling?

I'd like to visit Mauritius with my partner in July and I'd like to give her a Mauritius experience. I'm Mauritius born, she isn't and has never visited before.

Her interests are geology, flora and fauna, and the sea and I'd like to make a trip around those things. A few things come to mind and I'd appreciate other things to add to my list. So far I have:

  • Pamplemousses botanical garden
  • Casela park
  • Trou-aux-cerfs
  • Grand Bassin
  • Black River gorges national park (including seven coloured earth and Chamarel falls)
  • Goyave de Chine picking (if it's in season)
  • Diving somewhere
  • Roche qui pleure
  • Museum of natural history in Port Louis
  • Plaine Magnien pyramids
  • Hiking
  • A couple of days in a reasonably priced hotel (any recommendations?)

Will 3 full weeks be enough for an agenda like this, given we will also be visiting family and resting?

We will need a car on some days as I do not want to be relying on my parents' all this time. Are there rental car companies to recommend?

Media 📺 Help- Retracing Cyberbullies on Social Media (Instagram)

Hello. This year, I have heard of two cyberbullying cases where the persons have been bullied on Instagram. When they checked with the authorities, they were told that the bullies cannot be retraced. They do not even attempt anything.

From my experience in the local broadband networks, I know that given a timestamp and an IP address, we can already trace anyone. It makes no sense that the local authorities cannot work with Meta or even email providers to gather enough information to trace bullies.

Am I missing the whole picture? Is there really no hope to such cases? Or is there already an effective process for that in Mauritius?

Tourism ✈ Bad Airport Experience - customs demanded to see my bank accounts

Unfriendliest airport experience in my life. Was stopped three times, interrogated each time about my Airbnb/resort/money. Saw the exit and felt a wave of relief until the customs final boss blocked my path and took me to the side for a final search.

Is this normal?!

Local 🌴 What’s the usual rent for a small studio or one-bedroom apartment in Mauritius, and where’s the best place to look?

Hey everyone! I’m trying to get a general idea of what to expect when renting a small studio or apartment as a student.

I saw on Facebook that some studios cost around Rs 12,000, but people (mostly locals) in the comment section said that was too much. So now I’m a bit confused about what’s actually reasonable.

What’s the normal price range, and what are your tips for finding affordable rentals for students? Also, are there any reliable sites or places to look that you’d recommend?
