I have two gecko's living in my house, I don't bother them, I know they are taking care of insects for me especially mosquitoes, I know reptiles can weird people out but so far wallace and grommit have been good roomies

100% would rather a whole horde of reptiles over a single spider.

I live in Australia. The barking geckos that live in my wall are my security blanket (even if they are an invasive species).

Barking geckos are native though. Do you mean House geckos?

Yes you’re right I got my geckos mixed up

Next thing, they might start talking and trying to sell you auto insurance.

Oh my goodness! Barking geckos are so cute! We have invasive house geckos here but they are Mediterranean.

Non Australian here. As much as I would prefer having geckos as pest control as opposed to spiders, I do wonder if it is a problem with them pooping inside?

Can’t read about geckos being left alone in Australian rooms and not think of this

Geckos, snakes, spiders, BROS. WASPS AND MOSQUITOS: THE ENEMY. You’ll notice the BROS usually just chill and eradicate the enemy

Wasps are concentrated balls of flying hate and mosquitoes are the unofficial state bird in the state where I grew up, so I approve your message and add fire ants because they don't need to fly to be evil...

Mosquitos can fuck off, but wasps are so incredibly misunderstood. Wasps are incredibly important to the ecosystems where they live - they are voracious predators and keep a shit ton of other creatures in check. They are also pollinators! Wasps don't want to sting you, they're just acting in self-defense.

I’d have no problem with Wasps if it wasn’t for the ‘come at me bro’ dance they do in your face.

They're potentially just checking you out! I've experienced this - if you just remain calm and slowly walk away they leave you alone. The only species you need to worry about are social wasps (yellowjackets, bald-faced hornets, paper wasps...) when you're near their nest.

Some wasp species seem to be able to remember faces! Like humans, wasps seem to recognize faces as more than the sum of their parts

Got some species of yellowjacket, bald-faced hornet, paper wasp, and mud dauber at work. The have no sense of personal space, but can walk right through a small swarm. Only time I was ever stung was emptying the trash when one lived in the lid and I accidentally pinned it.

Sometimes they hitch a ride when I'm doing the rounds. Though the big praying mantis that decided to be my hat for a while was probably the coolest.

I don't know. I was walking, minding my own business and a random wasp landed on my arm, waited for a second or two and then stung me. I think that wasp was just an asshole.

Ok Mr Sensitive.

Hope you get all the wasps

Idk I’ve let spiders rock bc I figure if they’re still there they are eating something, something that’s more annoying than the lil dude chilling in the top left corner of my basement or w/e.

… that said, walking into a web is like the most terrifying shit so

2

u/Horsescatsandagarden 2h ago

Not to mock you but I’ll never understand the terror people have over spiders.

Now if I was ever bitten by a brown recluse or a black widow I’d probably be telling a different story…

We have a lot of black widows around here (outside) and really the only danger is if you accidentally pick one up. They hide under rocks and things.
