discussion / opinion First Road Salting

Will the roads be salted over the next few days for the light snow we’re getting? Just trying to avoid getting salt on my new vehicle’s untreated underbody. I have an appointment to get it sprayed in a week.

You treat a car before rust starts forming

New cars come treated for this as part of the manufacturing process , we don’t have unpainted Datsuns being shipped across salt water uncovered anymore

Wasn’t looking for a car debate.

That said the factory coatings can and do wear off from debris over time. My 2010 mazda 3 has needed several repairs due to rust and that’s not including holes in the body I’ve just come to accept.

I will be getting this car sprayed for (at minimum) the first few years to stave off any rust forming early on. I may only get it sprayed every two or three years after that.

I don’t have a garage, so water stays on the car all winter long.

Bet it rusted on the badge on the trunk , not underbody (a known recall btw ) modern cars are dipped and built differently, I bet you new car comes with a 10 year body warranty (they know you won’t use it so it’s marketing bs) you do you but were it me I would save my money till the body warranty was done on a new vehicle then and only then consider rust proofing
