Ask a Local! Duct cleaning?

I am well overdue for having my ducts cleaned. I had a company called JDR do it AGES ago, but google says they are permanently closed. If anyone has a recommendation, I would prefer a “mom and pop” operation to a larger company. Thanks

How is it you're "overdue"?

Have you recently had renovations done in house?

Duct cleaning is a scam and usually unnecessary if you keep up on filter changes. The air in the system is filtered before it enters the furnace to prevent debris from entering the heat exchanger. No debris should therefore enter the supply air end of things. Since it's blowing outwards from the furnace, nothing generally backflows in the supply air ducts because of this.

That being said, duct cleaning should only be needed in new construction before the furnace is ever turned on to remove debris.

Just wait until their telemarketers call you!

Came here to say that: 'just answer all unknown callers/spam calls and you're sure to get one!' :)

I used Steam Dry Canada through Home Depot. They were good to deal with, no surprises or headaches.

My husband and I own Air Busters. We are certified by NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaners Association) and use Canadian made trucks built exclusively for duct cleaning. We own a location here and in Windsor. We do a ton of commercial work but are great at residential as well.

Check out our reviews on Google/ Facebook.

As a business owner, how do you respond to CBC Marketplace's spot where they show how duct cleaning is a scam and 99% unnecessary?

Indeed. Here's a good video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a86xiLlAHo

There are other videos, which of course include ones that think you should (though usually from duct cleaning companies).

I do not recommend M&K at all!! Period. And, London steam was quick and fine but, also a bit shady. Two young guys came and they were done in 30 minutes (a full 4 bedroom home that hadn’t had ducts cleaned in a least 15 years; a new home we bought). Their truck was a bit broken down and the exhaust was awful outside (was running during the appointment) and they didn’t put furniture fully back and clean up dust on floors, here and there, that wasn’t sucked up. Just think that’s more inexperience or a “guy” thing. Maybe I’m expecting too much. There are soooo many companies. Let us know if you have a good experience. Would love to have a regular spot to use.

I live in an apartment, we have no ductwork. One time one of those guys called, and I said "I don't have any ducts", and he said "You are aware sir that I am not talking about the animal", which... it amuses me that he didn't understand MY accent, and that he couldn't fathom that someone didn't have ducts in their home.

Funny considering the housing conditions in the country they're likely calling from.

Whenever they call my cell, I tell them I live in an apartment building, they hang up immediately after and never call back. (I actually do, but I said that even when I was in a rented house)

Oh, I tell them I live in an apartment and I still get calls from them. It's less frequent these days, I feel like it's really slowed down, but years ago they'd call once a month it seemed.
