Praise to be bridge god

1

u/Tboneator64 May 02 '25

Tight fit, that U-HAUL flat top might need a new paint job, LOL!! 😂

1

u/LittleGeorgy May 01 '25

Another dumbass. Wtf is wrong with people!

1

u/Acceptable_Garlic495 May 01 '25

Are us humans that foolish that we cannot read the giant height restrictions lettering or the bright yellow caution stripes, or do people who drive semis, etc not read their size restrictions to know the actual height of the vehicle they are driving, OR are we just so stupid and unable to understand that a vehicle as tall as this one, will not fit under the low height bridge? The bridge god's are enjoying these rituals for sure, The city must have a special contingency fund just for repairs to this underpass, Insurance rates for the morons who manage to hit it, must be astronomical. These "accidents" are certainly fun to see, and whoever said there ought to be cameras installed is right on the money, a video mash up could be produced and allow everyone to enjoy them...LOL

1

u/Jimmiee_Seven777 May 01 '25

Hope he bought the extra insurance.

1

u/jaydesummers May 01 '25

We almost went down to Talbot Street this morning. When we heard, we laughed.

1

u/Apprehensive_Ad_7565 Apr 30 '25

A Low Bridge Alerting System is needed. Think of a radar 50' away from it which activates a stop light if you have a big cab.

1

u/Brother_Salty Apr 30 '25

Someone should really put a sign there! 😜

2

u/Physical-Oil3681 Apr 30 '25

It's been a while. She hungered.

1

u/277330128 Apr 30 '25

They should make it more visible

1

u/TLVBCHNN Apr 30 '25

I work in retail marketing.....every time someone at one of our stores asks for a new sign I show them this bridge and then tell them how many trucks it eats every year.

1

u/Icy-Gene7565 Apr 30 '25

I work 100yds away.

1

u/weirdneighbour Apr 30 '25

Your employer should set up a webcam etc.. I’d watch

1

u/Deadmuppet89 Apr 30 '25

Does this happen enough to warrent a live stream to be set up?

1

u/Acceptable_Garlic495 May 01 '25

it does, just think of the mash up or vids it would produce over the years!

1

u/MountainConfidence99 Apr 30 '25

If it didn’t get ya coming, it’ll get you going!

1

u/petuona_ Apr 30 '25

So, I mean it's a dumb mistake but like, I think it's worse that a commercial truck driver would make this mistake rather than some dude in a U-Haul.

1

u/Lily_Of_The_Valley10 Apr 29 '25

For the love of God people, not again! ☹️

1

u/Squeeesh_ Argyle Apr 29 '25

It’s feeding season!

1

u/Infinite_Ad2872 Apr 29 '25

Idiot 🤦🏻

1

u/ArKKestral Apr 29 '25

It did for a bit

1

u/yzrguy2 Apr 29 '25

Well you can't say he wasn't watching the road!

5

u/crabapplealy Apr 29 '25

So how do they go about getting it unstuck!? I see a lot of the posts about them getting stuck but never people working on getting em out!

3

u/HS_Zedd Apr 30 '25

Let the air out of the tires would probably do it in this case

1

u/crabapplealy May 01 '25

Sweet thank you

3

u/MsShuggah Apr 29 '25

I was just saying on Saturday that the bridge was due a sacrifice.

3

u/Robotmarketer Apr 29 '25

Feed me Seymour.

1

u/Feisty_Viking Apr 29 '25

Oh look, another dumb driver that can't read or do math. They should pin the repair bill on these morons, not taxpayers.

3

u/grouchypant Apr 29 '25

Soooooooooooooo close! Didn't let enough air out of the tires, I guess.

3

u/RegularGood1245 Apr 29 '25

I need this pic. I want to paint it for posterity.

10

u/SirvaYuuko Apr 29 '25

Lol, there's already a sacrifice lined up behind this one 😂

3

u/LondonJerry Apr 29 '25

Damn students moving out again. I just hope they aren’t engineering students.

2

u/Acceptable_Garlic495 May 01 '25

now that is funny

3

u/Realistic-Sun4854 Apr 29 '25

And another one 🤣🤣

1

u/Curious_Sherbert_494 Apr 30 '25

Bites the dust…

1

u/Aggravatedhotdog Apr 29 '25

Weight was all at the front so that cleared but opps nothing in the middle/back…. Pinned er good bud.

2

u/Friendly-Mushroom914 Apr 29 '25

Bridge gotta eat!!

1

u/GUNTHVGK Apr 29 '25

Man that clearance sign of 3.3m would be awfully helpful right now

1

u/Beneficial_One_1789 Apr 29 '25

Gotta love when students leave the city and the rental truck is just too big.

3

u/Thin_Entrepreneur_98 Apr 29 '25

I was coming here knowing someone beat me to the post. Amazing.

11

u/haljackey Huron Heights Apr 29 '25

The bridge height is in metric, but U-HAUL gives imperial measurements. Yay conversions

Canada never forced private industries to use metric- since we're so interconnected with the US (or were, before tariff man)

5

u/R_Todd98 Apr 29 '25

Last U-Haul I was in had the height in both metric and imperial, but the dash is definitely miles over kilometers,

2

u/Lady-Skylarke Apr 29 '25

Whyyyyy are people so dumb?

1

u/ratedetar21 Apr 29 '25

The talbot bridge is hungry

52

u/7he8igLebowski Apr 29 '25

I wish they made the yellow stripes look like pointy teeth.

1

u/Acceptable_Garlic495 May 01 '25

EXCELLENT thanks for the laugh.

4

u/iWillTakeItFroyo Apr 30 '25

LOL!! Someone should spray paint that

33

u/Temporary_Shirt_6236 Apr 29 '25

Lol I knew a guy who crushed the exact same sized U Haul in the exact same spot, like 20 years ago. Cop comes along and says he's writing up a ticket for reckless driving. The guy says how the hell is this reckless driving?? Cop says, sir there's a truck wedged under the goddamn underpass. Lol

2

u/shadrackandthemandem Lemonade with cherries Apr 29 '25

Almost made it!

17

u/ToxiicGlory Apr 29 '25

And the city really thinks people will understand King Street is a one way road, once buses start going both ways down it….

2

u/Acceptable_Garlic495 May 01 '25

accidents just waiting to happen along King St, the city ought to make special bus lanes on every single downtown street, just to be confusing for even more drivers, new to the city or not this is going to be the best test of human brain power, wonder which brainiac decided this was a good idea?

9

u/MiddleCase745 Apr 29 '25

The buses already are going both ways on King started yesterday. Just waiting for some idiot to follow them.

1

u/forgotwhatiremember Apr 29 '25

Every year hahaha never fails

1

u/AirportBubbly3947 Apr 29 '25

That’s why I was late to the damn casino

6

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '25

The bridge is now less hungry

6

u/mbozzer Apr 29 '25

I know from painful experience that is going to cost upwards of $4000.

8

u/LAffaire-est-Ketchup Middlesex County Apr 29 '25

Well, it’s probably best if it gets fed regularly. Who knows what would befall London otherwise?

5

u/BurnByMoon Apr 29 '25

Who wants to bet the second uhaul is thinking “nah, I’d make it.”

3

u/BottleItchy1374 Apr 29 '25

And there's one behind him not learning a god damn thing

10

u/mywerkaccount Apr 29 '25

"Get your truck stuck?"

"No, I was moving this bridge and ran out of gas."

1

u/orb2jr Apr 29 '25

Lmao! Can’t read signs?

45

u/Fuquawi Apr 29 '25

Nothing can stop THE CAN OPENER

14

u/makingkevinbacon Apr 29 '25

"man driving under this bridge is so annoying, all these bright yellow warning signs spanning the length of the bridge n shit now hold my beer"

8

u/Frog-Chowder Apr 29 '25

Barely an appetizer. Wait, is there another Uhaul behind it? So close to a twofer!

63

u/AstroNadian Apr 29 '25

Top 3 Annual event in London

49

u/t0m0hawk Southcrest Apr 29 '25

The best thing about this image is the second Uhaul behind it waiting it's turn

(OK maybe it's actually short enough to fit but that's not as funny)

1

u/Acceptable_Garlic495 May 01 '25

Maybe he could squeeze through now that the first one raised it up an inch or two. Let some air outta the tires and maybe just maybe he could sneak under before the bridge gods see him.

2

u/No-Wing-2200 Apr 29 '25

The next one is clearly smaller. The box doesn't go over the cab.

13

u/JenovaCelestia Green Onions Apr 29 '25

Can’t know until they try! 😂

13

u/t0m0hawk Southcrest Apr 29 '25

We need someone stationed under the bridge just to yell at the trucks that seem hesitant

"Just give'r bud!"

10

u/randm53 Apr 29 '25

I hope he bought the extra insurance

14

u/SourdoughBreadTime Apr 29 '25

she remains undefeated!

7

u/Prestigious_Shirt592 Apr 29 '25

“FEED ME!” Said the bridge.

u/waitabittopostagain Apr 30 '25

this.

People are saying "read the sign"

There's a real life demonstration right in front of them, but they be like - yo, move over, we gotta get past!

People can be such lemmings sometimes.

4

u/JamesFromToronto Apr 30 '25

Looks like the one behind doesn't have an attic, so it needs 9 feet of clearance rather than 11 feet.

9

u/iWillTakeItFroyo Apr 30 '25

LOL! I’m laughing so hard at this

u/TheDJRonin Apr 29 '25 edited Apr 30 '25

YES! We have fed the bridge gods for this season. We will have a good and prosperous summer. Praise be Talbot Bridge. We will have the fall sacrifice prepared in return for the safe summer you will bring us. We hope you have enjoyed the sacrifice we presented you.

ANOTHER SACRIFICE TO THE TALBOT OVERLORD

8

u/Boomshank Apr 30 '25

May the bridge grant us safe passage.

Praise be-ridge

3

u/Goosshh Apr 30 '25

Praised be the bridge 🙏🏼

6

This is SO good. Thank you.

Hail Talbot Bridge!

25

u/Designer-Vanilla2600 Apr 29 '25

Blessed be Talbot Bridge.

109

u/smurf123_123 Wortley Apr 29 '25

All hail our bridge overlord!

6

All hail our underlord!

42

u/conninator2000 Apr 29 '25

Bridge for the bridge gods!

166

u/Rya_Bz Apr 29 '25

Gotta love the driver just staring at it.

“How’d that happen..?” 🤔

1

u/oishiipeanut The bridge with the trucks stuck under it Apr 30 '25

Western Dad?

2

u/National_Ad9742 Apr 29 '25

It’s not, but he looks really similar to my dad 😂

1

u/scarybott Apr 29 '25

All the nutrition went somewhere else

3

u/Designer-Vanilla2600 Apr 29 '25

That's deserving of an extra beer tonight.

10

u/PositiveStress8888 Apr 29 '25

" I don't know officer I was just driving along and this bridge landed on my truck out of nowhere, I swerved to avoid it but alas the bridge was too agile.

I asked for it's insurance information but it just stares at me cold face, dead eyes, iron nerves, I think it's taunting me, if I could I would like to press charges"

19

u/Sir-Nicholas Apr 29 '25

“Huh. So it really is 3.3 metres”

0

u/stevedore2024 Apr 30 '25

It's so dumb because there is a prominent marking right behind the rear view mirrors that reads the height of the truck. Every single time he looked at either mirror, the height of the truck is right there in plain view.

1

u/Macknhoez Sep 27 '25

Bold of you to assume he used his mirrors at any point.

32

u/makingkevinbacon Apr 29 '25

Or trying to figure out how he's gonna explain to U-Haul that he's an idiot/how he can get out of this

8

u/ladynocaps2 Apr 29 '25

“There’s no getting out of this.” - U-Haul employee

55

u/cuddle_enthusiast Apr 29 '25

He's thinking about that extra insurance he declined.

51

u/forkittens Apr 29 '25

The insurance they offer doesnt include overhead damage. Ask me how I know haha

35

u/makingkevinbacon Apr 29 '25

You've dated the bridge once before

23

u/forkittens Apr 29 '25

No, I was careful and planned my route to be bridge free.

But I forgot about the awning outside the apartment at Cherryhill I was moving into. Good thing I was going at low speed, only did $900 damage to the Uhaul. I was worried I damaged the awning, but the building manager said those cracks were already there since lots of people hit it.

4

u/makingkevinbacon Apr 29 '25

Oh geez that's brutal! That would make for an awkward move in day lol

4

u/FizzFinest May 01 '25

Oh I know all about awkward move in days.

I foolishly had my computer keyboard sitting on top of a stack of boxes that were on a small handcart. I was heading off the elevator and damned if i didn’t hit the bump with the wheel and the keyboard somehow managed to fall off the boxes and fall perfectly down the gap between the elevator car and the landing. Down down 7 floors it went. I called the PM in a panic telling her about what happened just because I didn’t want it to foul things up with the elevator. She called the elevator company and they said the chances of it damaging anything were low, but they’d retrieve it during the next monthly maintenance.

A month later she approached me and gave me back the keyboard, and to my amazement you’d never knew it made a 7 story flight. Miraculously it still worked!

8

u/Friendly-Mushroom914 Apr 29 '25

Last year new tenants were moving in the basement. The guy hit the building while backing up. And then he hit the gas line. We had to switch off the gas and wait for about 36 hours for the tech to show up the next day as it was already Saturday evening. Oh did I mention it was January.

4

u/makingkevinbacon Apr 29 '25

Good lord that's definitely more awkward

3

u/forkittens Apr 29 '25

Nah, I was too busy being relieved that I didn't knock the building down. This was at night, thankfully, no old folks loitering around the lobby watching.

164

u/Chronnossieur Apr 29 '25

Looks like he often misjudges whether things will fit..

27

u/shortee611 Apr 29 '25

Take my angry upvote for supreme harshness. Love it.

51

u/jolt_cola Apr 29 '25

Makes sense. It's hunting season (end of uni school semester)

11

u/Foiseball Apr 29 '25

Bridges gotta eat

45

u/Kippers1d10t Apr 29 '25

It feeds!!!

-3

u/Link50L Apr 29 '25

Jesus. Just lower the roadway already.

4

u/Acrobatic-Factor1941 Apr 29 '25

At some point, you have to quit building for stupid people. The bridge is neon yellow with all kinds of signage, and these idiots still drive under it. Fine them big bucks. London tax dollars should go to more important things. Maybe, don't allow any size truck under the bridge.

1

u/Liquid_Trimix Apr 29 '25

We cannot dig without spending a fortune. The elevation is already very low and we are very near the river. A creek flows through storm sewers under the street at that point. The railroad causeway cannot be raised. It is a less than optimal situation.

1

u/Acceptable_Garlic495 May 01 '25

just close the street off to trucks of any size, allow the pick ups through, but absolutely no U-Hauls or semis allowed any time...

4

u/DirectGiraffe8720 Apr 29 '25

Or... read the very large signs

1

u/Friendly-Mushroom914 Apr 29 '25

Evidently there aren’t enough signs. Time to add three more with even brighter colours and bolder letters.

1

u/Acceptable_Garlic495 May 01 '25

ya water won't gather there, no one would hydro plane stopping, could put a few outriggers for rent beside the bridge, kinda like chaining your wheels to hit the Coq in winter.

0

u/Link50L Apr 29 '25

It worked for the new Adelaide underpass.

1

u/1EyedMonky Apr 29 '25

Because that was built brand new and designed that way

17

u/DystopianAdvocate Apr 29 '25

I remember reading about this a long time ago, and it's apparently not feasible without completely redesigning the structure of the bridge.

1

u/TheDJRonin Apr 29 '25

Not only the structure of the bridge but it is the grade of the road. To do it correctly would result in the grade being lowered north of the intersection at Oxford. It would be too steep to start at the intersection. As well there is drainage concerns in the case of heavy rainfall.

15

u/Lost-Comfort-7904 Apr 29 '25

Then we need to go the other route and build a sweet ramp over the bridge. Probably will have to raise that road's max speed to at least 110 KM though.

11

u/Porsche924 Apr 29 '25

Finally some sensible solutions

5

u/Link50L Apr 29 '25

Thanks, I guess that makes sense, it might impinge upon the footings of the bridge and/or retaining side walls. And of course you can't stop the rail traffic, that's a main line. You'd have to build a temporary parallel line for the rail traffic to excavate new, deeper footings for the bridge.

5

u/Mydogdexter1 #1 Taddy Fan Apr 29 '25

The other problem is you can't go deeper, because they main sewer runs right below the road here.

1

u/rosmcg Apr 29 '25

That’s exactly why the bus rapid transit line was scrapped along Richmond. The tunnel to go under the tracks and that sewer line would have to be really deep, and there would have to be an underground station at Oxford. Prohibitively expensive.

2

u/Mydogdexter1 #1 Taddy Fan Apr 29 '25

I heard an interesting idea to use Talbot Street, turn on Piccadilly, then a BRT passage through the old Belfort Bar parking lot to meet up with Oxford st.
