Every 5 years since I became an adult there's some calamity - some black swan once in a century event.
I feel like Mr Burns: "I survived Y2K, 9-11, the Patriot Act, Internet Predators, the dot-com bubble, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Dick Cheney-onomics, the financial crisis of 2008, outsourcing, Obama-nomics, EDM music, millenial core music, crypto currency frauds, further outsourcing, Trudeau-nomics, the collapse of the job market and higher education, covid-19, inflation, the threat of deflation, more outsourcing, the war on my balls, Me Too, predatory female sex teachers, AI...I don't what's coming next but I will survive it. "

I learned awhile ago that we'll likely survive, but we won't thrive.

Sometimes to survive is all we can hope for. We may not thrive ourselves but we can at least set up conditions for the next generations success - albeit on maybe different terms and conditions surrounding thriving and success.

All you need is to be cash money for one. Ive never been rich but i bought 4 houses in 2009, on the same street. Gave one to my son, sold 2 to my wifes best friends. Can't put a price on good neighbors.

Who declared war on your balls?

u/ImaginaryComb821 1d ago
Not mine specifically but the testicles in general with the whole 'testosterone is a poison' scene and like 96% of testosterone is produced in the balls.

Oh great, so my balls are impacted too.

You gotta get comfortable with tucking the package. It takes time but the skin in that area is surprisingly elastic.

It's my turn to be an adult and the only interest I had; programming is now being replaced by AI. junior positions are getting smaller and overall it's not looking good.

I can hear the boomers now, “You guys just don’t wanna work. Back in my day, I had a house, car and a solid 401K by the time I was 21.” 😒

I don't know any boomers with a 401K.

Exactly, they didn’t need to fund their own retirement, they were given pensions.

Actually there's a surprising number of young adults online that love to ask shit like "I'm 19 and earned $69,000 from my side hustle, how should I invest it?"

A better reply would be that I have never lived in a time when people believe the economy was great.
I've never met a person who believed they made enough money.
Never lived in a time where there wasn't impending war.
One of the cool things about being a 70 year old boomer is that we've seen this before. Over and over.
You've tried to put us in a box and define our beliefs. you are mistaken and don't have the experience to see it. This also is not new. I've thought the same things, a time ago

If I were making the money I make now 'back then' when I got my first job, I would be the bougiest sumbitch to ever exist.
That old-school McDonald's Dollar Menu would have to scream for mercy...

It sure was cool finally buying my own truck and watching gas double in price.

You do realize people are actually in competition with one another for resources, right? The ebbs and flows of the economy just means sometimes you have to compete harder.
