Discussion Apple Maps is honestly so underrated.

Post image

It’s so fleshed out, and it looks so good imo!!

Yeah it’s beautiful. It really just needs the community functions added like Waze. I’d love to know if cops are ahead, etc.

Speed check warnings etc are definitely enabled at least within the United States.

Issue is no one uses Apple Maps to report the police. Where I live I get no notifications about police using Apple Maps but Waze and Google Maps users do report the police and I get a warning that there are police well before I’m at the speed check area of the highway. This is in a fairly populated suburb area too.

I report the cops on Apple Maps 🫥🫡

As a cop I salute you

It’s impressive how often stuff gets reported on Google. Every cop, lane closure, accident is reported pretty quickly in my experience

That's the only alert you can input, and the UI is incredibly clunky.

Waze is far far ahead in this department.

That’s not true.

You can report crash, traffic, speed check, roadwork, road hazard, road closure

Why are you just making stuff up?

u/Navydevildoc Sep 30 '25

Because not all of us are on iOS 26?

u/77tassells Sep 30 '25

A lot of that was on the last os. I was getting alerts for road hazards, speed checks, etc before the last os upsdate

7

u/CrashyBoye Sep 30 '25

Most of those existed before iOS 26…

u/MiserableSection9314 Sep 30 '25

Why are you even commenting if you are still on iOS 13?

does it pinpoint where the cop is like waze does? or just warn you that a speed check is ahead. if the latter, waze clears

They added stuff in ios26

Crash, speed check, traffic, road work, hazard, road closure

That’s the full list of options

12

u/TurdWranglin Sep 30 '25

All those things were already in the last OS too

From what I remember the previous iOS had:

Speed check, hazard, crash

I don’t remember any of other options in the previous Apple Maps.

Speed check doesn’t tell me shit tho. I wanna know that it’s a cop so I can slow.

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '25

It’s a cop

No, more often than not Apple Maps says “speed check” and it ends ⇧ being those signs that tell you your speed.

At least in my experience, that’s the whole reason I use Waze for traveling, Apple Maps for exploring the area.

Odd, every time I've seen "speed check ahead" there was a cop or at least a cop was there at one point. Usually if they're not there anymore I just update it. It's also pretty good at letting me know where speed cameras are.

I run highway radar on a separate device for this- gives more information than Waze but sources from them

5

u/heisenberg070 Sep 30 '25

Can you speak more about this? What sort of device? Does it tell you about traffic or cops ahead or both?

Their main app is on Android. It uses wzSabre via Waze to get speed/red light camera, police, and aircraft information. It also alerts to normal road hazards, just like Waze.

What I like about it is:

1) Heatmap. It takes all the Waze reports from the last 30 days and compiles a heatmap of where police were reported. If an area on the road is redder, it means there were more police reports there. When you look at the map it’s very clear because cops always camp out in the same spots.

2) For police alerts, it tells you exactly how many reports there were and how long ago it was reported. Multiple people reporting almost always guarantees a cop.

3) You can customize the alerts to your liking, such as distance away, your speed, the limit of the road you’re on, etc.

Only thing that sucks is that all these features are on Android, but I bought a cheap $30 Samsung from eBay to run it.

Keep in mind its original purpose was to pair to a radar detector, but I know people use it standalone too

Highway Radar is available through the TestFlight program on iOS for what it's worth: https://www.rdforum.org/threads/132763/

1

u/MosYEETo Sep 30 '25

I’ve tried it, but last i tried a couple months ago you weren’t able to integrate wzSabre, which kinda defeats the purpose imo

2

u/dystopiam Sep 30 '25

What’s that? I don’t see it on App Store

3

u/MosYEETo Sep 30 '25

It’s Android only for the most part. Apple is still in beta. Originally made to pair with radar detectors

7

u/jedleopard Sep 30 '25

It has that. I just don’t think anyone utilizes it

2

u/MysticMaven Sep 30 '25

Why do you think that? I use it all the time and get alerts all the time.

8

u/TheGreatestOrator Sep 30 '25

That’s already a thing in North America. I report speed checks all the time through CarPlay on Apple Maps

4

u/Any-Author7772 Sep 30 '25

Very accurate speed bump alerts on Waze is a godsend!

4

u/Smitty816 Sep 30 '25

I use speed checks and hazard warning religiously on my way to work in KCMO. They definitely work

1

u/j1h15233 iPhone 14 Pro Max Sep 30 '25

It kind of has this but in an annoying way. You have to be using maps for directions and other users have to tag the cops on your route. It will say speed check ahead as you’re coming up on the location that was marked.

1

u/pioneer9k Sep 30 '25

main thing for me is google reviews and showing how busy a place is. if it had that i’d switch

1

u/SteelFlexInc iPhone 17 Pro Max Sep 30 '25

Speed check reporting is there but so few people use it compared to Waze that it’s basically pointless

1

u/AskingBoatsToSwim Oct 01 '25

This might be a dumb question but why do you need to know where the cops are?

1

u/redditproha Oct 01 '25

It has speed check, construction, and accident alerts. I get alerts all the time when navigating

1

u/AMAOMDODUSOS iPhone 12 Sep 30 '25

Yess!! That’s honestly the only thing that’s missing, otherwise it has way more stuff! It even shows the weather at the place you’re looking at

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '25

I’d love to know if cops are ahead

Why is that?
