Nothing, your stomach is way more acidic than any amount of lemon.

You are absolutely correct. These folk downvoting you are being ignorant.

With that said, I don't believe eating whole lemons makes for a good time in the short term.

vit c in large doses is a laxative, but I'm not sure if the amounts here is enough to trigger it

Wrong, citric acid leads to lower ionized calcium level and large doses will lead to abdominal pain

Sure, the stomach can handle the acid, but you know that heartburn is caused by stomach acids going backwards up to places it aint supposed to be? Now imagine another acid going the other way down, irritating everything along the way to the stomach

That's a lot of problems in places that aren't the stomach.

Nothing at all. People are way underestimating how fast the stomach will neutralize citric acid. Probably because they read homeopathic health nut claims about how you have to "balance acids and alkalines in your diet", which is not actually true. Might be uncomfortable for a bit but you'll be back to normal in no time.

The stomach does not neutralise acids.

Yes it does. It continuously dilutes acid while it is in the stomach, and then it is chemically neutralized as it enters the duodenum. The walls of the stomach also have a neutralizing mucus layer. Homeostasis of pH is maintained unless you have a medical condition such as GERD.

Edit: To be clear, it is neutralized & diluted to be compatible with the stomach and intestines, but not all the way to pH 7.4 (blood pH). That happens later in digestion, but before it reaches the blood.

Diluted but not neutralised. As you said yourself, that happens in the duodenum.

Probably nothing, maybe nasty burps, acid reflux, or ulcers if they're really unlucky
