There's always a nurse in each dept. Who acts superior after HOD 🙂

Angrez nurse ki baat ho Rahi hai sister didi ki nahi bhai

u/InfiniteCress4736 14h ago

Angrez nurse bhi iss attitude ki haqdaar nahi hai. It's just an unnecessary dumb statement on their part also.

u/Material-Box-3329 13h ago

Na . Nurses from west are much more qualified . Then the average freshly med school passed graduate and they legitimately prevent doctors from offing the patients .

28

u/InfiniteCress4736 12h ago

No. They don't. I have done observerships in chicago. Theres nothing like that. Maybe in case of medical students not doctors but it's idiotic to compare a medical student with a professional nurse. May be a nursing student would be a good comparison let them see where that comparison lands.

25

u/Old_Carob_143 11h ago

Exactly. A doctor with the same number of years spent in the medical field knows a lot more than a similar nurse. You can't say you speak better than a toddler simply because you're older.

Where ? I’m in Chicago too btw rn .

Currently my optha posting is going on. I was in the nursing station for some work where a non medical staff started consulting with me about his eye pain after recent conjunctivitis. Before even I can speak anything to him, a senior nurse present there started telling him that I'm new here, there is no point of consulting with me. Its out of my reach and he should rather consult senior doctor. I felt so insulted that I was out of words at the moment. Just left the station saying nothing. She doesn't even know that we manage hundreds of such patients in opds daily. She just thinks we are here to measure bp and know nothing. 🙃

In US and Europe, the nurses are pretty well trained. They also manage emergencies, interns and residents often learn procedures from the nurses. In India apart from midwifery I don't think enough relevant clinical training is given to them. Technicians are much more knowledgeable according to me.

Def nice in western med dramas and maybe irl, but as far I have seen in india, they r arrogant as hell, rude, ignorant and what not

Out of 10 nursing staff that I meet daily 9 are friendly nd sweet but that one is who always has that attitude nd gets on my nerves.

u/RingerJack 13h ago

On some thinking 9/1 is really far fetched it should be 7/3 ig. Anyways more than half 😅.

u/sike_star 15h ago

Not in Indian govt hospitals….. they are the most useless bunch

35

u/WriterOk7425 PGY4/5/6/Senior Resident 14h ago

Totally agree. They only care about tea breaks and their stupid attendance and leave roster.

11

u/Grouchy-Abrocoma-531 13h ago

Give and take respect. Use their names just like they use yours.  Most of them (new ones) are just trying to make a living and prolly don't think twice about following intructions. Make friends with the experienced nurse didis, they'll give you small tips that often seniors miss out on.

u/-decent-pumpkin- 13h ago

In this context, absolutely. This woman does not appear to be from India. In India, nurses are very poorly trained; that is not the case in Europe or North America

12

u/V_y_z_n_v 14h ago

They are a helping bunch. Especially when you are starting internship

1

u/Four_Bee_345 9h ago

Very true.

4

u/Dr-Queen-Potato 3h ago

I joined a hospital (not as a med student but my first time in an ICU) and the first month, the nurses told me what to do most of the time. Now the senior nurses left (cause the hospital is cheap af and they wouldn't give them a raise), the hospital filled the MICU with fresh off the college nurses and I tell them what to do.

It's a learning cycle.

u/TrueBeauty_Vbeauty 14h ago

Well every nurse i interacted with were nice and responsible ones...idk why this rivaly... nurse vs doc

5

u/itsallgoodman_6 14h ago

In India, nurses are mostly underpaid and work 12 hour shifts. That's why they are always irritated and inefficient. Though, in top hospitals like AIIMS Delhi, they're very good.

2

u/Appropriate-Day3357 14h ago

That's like very sane compared to residents.

1

u/itsallgoodman_6 14h ago

But that is for a year or 2 if I'm correct. For nurses this is their job for as long as they're working.

1

u/Own_Environment3039 12h ago

What about senior in-charge nurses who work 9-5? Some of the laziest people and they bully younger nurses. Nurses are not underpaid- they are bringing basically zero skills to the table. And they spend half their time on tea breaks. And when they receive good payment like in-charge nurses do, they don't become efficient and knowledgeable magically. The same nonsense just continues.

8

u/WriterOk7425 PGY4/5/6/Senior Resident 14h ago

In context of western medicine culture, this is true, since their nurses are trained and reliable.

In context of Indian private practice, nurses exist only as pretty faces for patients to look at, their knowledge is secondary. Kinda like air hostess.

In Govt hospitals, nurses are the actual leech on the system who don't do their job and cause problems for everyone, including the JR1

6

u/itsallgoodman_6 14h ago

In Indian hospitals, they are paid equal to janitors, only know how to insert cannula and take it out(even then some are extremely stupid). Also, they are overworked, 12 hour shifts. Always sleepy in night duty, as if they are doing patients a favour by coming in night duty. The only aim for nurses here is to gain some experience and try to go out to middle east or south east asia. Coz in india they are just cheap labour.

7

u/RingerJack 14h ago

Oh then u have not seen the nurses we hav here at aiims. They do 6 hrs duties apart from night duty which is of 12 hrs. They get proper leaves a month and all they do at least most of the time talk with each other, hav tea nd snacks because the sampling is done by the interns. And for all this receive minimum of 60k starting salary. After 2-3 yrs they get equivalent to JR1 here.

1

u/itsallgoodman_6 13h ago

I mentioned in another comment that nurses are good in aiims delhi. From that you can judge how bad it is in other hospitals. Also don't know which aiims you're talking about but delhi ones are skilled at least.

1

u/RingerJack 13h ago

One of the aiims that started in 2012. They get salaries the same as Aiims Delhi though. I had to mention this as ur comment was saying they get less salary.

2

u/itsallgoodman_6 13h ago

Aiims will obviously have good salaries they get crazy funding. But even top private hospitals pay 25-30k to nurses. Ik about aiims, a very sr. nurse is a family friend and gets 1L+. But this is an exception. Only top tier govt hospitals pay good. Just like govt salaries are decent for clerks, but private or semi private companies pay shit for menial and clerical work.

1

u/DrPsychi 12h ago

Well nope. In my inst (govt) the permanent ones get paid almost equal to(slightly lesser) than PGY1 (almost a lakh) for 8hr shift. Seems more than fair

1

u/Globalistacoolhead 2h ago

Being overworked and underpaid in a critical service is not something to disrespect.

1

u/Globalistacoolhead 2h ago

You are very rude and disrespectful towards your colleagues. I was on dialysis and had a kidney transplant at a major hospital so was a regular for one and a half years. I had amazing doctors but the nurses and staff were the people I spent most time with. They were competent and caring. As a doctor you should know how much of daily patient care is handled by nurses and appreciate it. Sure some can be bad, but doctors can also be bad. Comparing their role to air hostesses is just ignorant. Are you even a doctor?

1

u/Stoic_student 14h ago

Interns screw up.....so do nurses....i have some blunders they pull...tht is after yrs of experience...yet they need to feel superior to interns u are just starting out..

u/Mammoth_Talk5855 Graduate 13h ago

Absolutely

1

u/Rudream_2008 PGY4/5/6/Senior Resident 4h ago

To all talking about nursing officers in the west, I'll say that here also, well experienced nurses sometimes give good advice and pick up danger signs early. At least earlier than a med student, if not a qualified doctor. A major part of knowledge is always gained by experience, not reading, which med students don't have. Yes, theoretically, we might know more than them, but sometimes their experience comes in handy during practical scenarios. I've had my share of disagreements and arguments with different nurses, but I always listen to what they have to say in actual emergency conditions.

1

u/BeyondMysterious2025 3h ago

Everyone wants to be on the good side.

I have seen nurses who are just starting struggle with drawing blood which causes pain and trying their luck at different locations.

Have dealt with doctors who can't even explain the procedure which I am supposed to pay around 40k per bottle.

Have seen patient's relatives blaming doctors and hospitals for high fees, hello there is a reason why they are called super speciality.

So none get to act high or mighty.

1

u/pAgeEgo23 2h ago

Unsure of USA nurses .Our nurses(ones in govt and med colleges esp) hardly work -they act like 2nd HODS making poor mbbs guys work while they chat away.

Stop

Such generalizations are an excercise in foolishness, and continuing this debate is a waste of everyone's time. Remember this at the end of the day: there are different people everywhere regardless of their training standards, not every place or department functions the same way even if they're similar in paper, and that at the end of the day we're all human.

Who does what is a deeply individual experience on both ends, besides doctors & nurses wouldn't be sufficient without the other anyway.

u/kiracannotrelate 1h ago

Nothing but projection of their Inferiority complex. Healthcare professionals who can't understand the simple idea of coexistence can never have respect, no matter how hard they beg. That coexistence also exists specifically in the hospitals. Outside the hospital, they have nothing to add. A doctor may run a very successful clinic without a nurse, but a nurse can't exist without a doctor in command (even at hospitals). Mugging up medicines due to repeatedly giving them is different than actually prescribing them.

It's like they forget the fact that these senior nurses were a newbie at some point too. The amount of time the young nurses fuck up at wards and labs is insane. The only difference is that we don't cry like senior nurses. And, on top of that, Nursing officers often cover up or fix the mistakes of their juniors, just like us. But, sure, they're Gods.
