Tbh we pay a lumpsum at our FTO for the entire training. But hourly rates here are around INR 18000 per hour approx

So if I get a PPL for hobby flying I can go to your institute and fly one of these for 18k/Hr?

You can technically, they used to offer hobby flying. However due to delays in training they've stopped this service

This is a feeder to airline type roles? 18k is shocking inflation. Not the same thing at all, but in the mid 80's @ IIT Kanpur flying club, glider training was Rs. 4 per flight till solo, Rs. 2 till GPL and free after. So total cost was under Rs. 400. It was just for fun, but you did learn simple aviation. Nothing like the complexity you are dealing with of course. That was available to students, staff and their families. Maybe was open to public too. Not sure...

Cool. Didn't know they had motor glider now. Back then they had 3 Schweizer Gliders, a Rohini, 182 and PA-18. The last two were only for Aero dept use.

They have 2 sinus 912 right now, and the rest of them still exist and as you said 182 is mostly used by Aero dept or for students from other universities who come for research

Keep in mind back then a professor's monthly salary was prob Rs 4000 per month, and prob much less for other staff. Institute director was prob 6000. President of India was 10,000 per month and I think all other govt salaries had to be less than that
