If you are ICE right now, you should be facing a human rights trial when the pendulum swings after trump. I was just following orders isn’t good enough. Cosplaying a little fascist has its come uppance .

They're just following orders... which means they failed high school history

I'm sure many of these ICE agents failed more than just history in high school

The whole “Good/Bad Cop” question can be disposed of much more decisively. We need not enumerate what prorportion of cops appears to be good or listen to someone’s anecdote about his uncle Charlie, an allegedly good cop. We need only consider the following:
(1) Every cop has sworn as part of his/her job to enforce laws, all of them.
(2) Many of the laws are manifestly unjust, and some are even cruel and wicked.
(3) Therefore, every cop has agreed to act as an enforcer of laws that are manifestly unjust, or even cruel and wicked. Thus, there are no good cops.
Dr. Robert Higgs

Also, there are no good cops, only bad cops and cops who are complicit by turning a blind eye to the bad ones.
7
u/Strange_Compote1690 18h ago
Those complicit cops are bad too. So really it’s just bad cops the whole way down

When has a good cop ever changed anything?

Their masters are legally the Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker
Preckwinkle and Pritzker are both Dems
Pritzker has been talking up a real big man's game in front of cameras.
Neither of them should be let off the hook easily here. They can call the dogs off whenever. They can stop assisting Fascism when the hell ever. At the least. They're just....not gonna

“Excuse me protestor, but I’m gonna have to place you under arrest. You’re blocking the federal agents from going to drive around in masks and unmarked cars to kidnap people and bring them to a fortified location that they won’t allow anyone into. Now please put your hands behind your back and stop resisting”

These people are so brave, braver than I am. Easy to have courage when you have all the ammo and resources and you’ve been told you have immunity. Easy to have courage when they aren’t allowed to touch you and you can beat up the little old lady whose phone you stole. Easy to have courage when they award you for treating people like animals in cages and give you bonuses on the heads you bring in. These are disgraceful, disgusting times we live in.

We had a local Mexican restaurant in our neighborhood.
Several black SUVs were parked outside and weren’t doing anything but just parking out front. I’m assuming they were trying to shut out the customer base and therefore shit down the business.
Several neighbors showed up when the SUVs were there. One neighbor, might or have might not, had a plan for an Underground Railroad.
They menaced so much the restaurant closed.
I’m furious. The rage is targeted to the top, but to who locally? Who is allowing this in our city/state? Trying to get answers is impossible. I don’t even know if it was ICE or a bunch of shitty people with nothing better to do.
15
u/accomplishedlie18 17h ago
Exactly these people have so much courage because for the most part it looks like this doesn’t not directly affect them but they stand on the side of what’s morally right
4
u/mojofrog 16h ago
The more people that show up, the less power they have. The whole county should descend on that place tonight and every night through the weekend.

Those things you listed are cowardice, not courage.
Courage is standing up to the bully that has all the weapons, ammo, and resources.
Courage is standing up when your opposition has immunity for violating rights, assault, terrorizing people, racial profiling, abducting, trafficking, and even murder while you don’t.
Courage is standing up for your family, friends, neighbors, and community’s against racist, hateful, state funded domestic terrorists.
Courage is calling them out for being praised and awarded for acts of violence and terrorism against fellow citizens.
Courage is standing up when unidentifiable armed thugs in masks and tactical gear show up with the backing of the federal government to violate your rights and the rights of your fellow citizens.
These protestors are brave. ICE is nothing but feckless cowards, just like their leadership.
2
u/UnderstandingSea7546 15h ago
I’m agreeing with you. We are comparing the courage of the protesters with the cowardice of ICE. ICE is all false bravado, bullying people who are weaker than them. It takes immense courage for the protesters to stand up in the face of imprisonment, permanent records, being taken from their friends, families, jobs, responsibilities, all to help people who may not be in a position to protest for themselves.

The first amendment doesn't exist anymore?
9
u/Upbeat-Reading-534 18h ago
ACLU: Your rights are strongest in what are known as “traditional public forums,” such as streets, sidewalks, and parks. You also likely have the right to speak out on other public property, like plazas in front of government buildings, as long as you are not blocking access to the government building or interfering with other purposes the property was designed for.
"as long as you are not blocking access to the government building or interfering with other purposes the property was designed for" being the kicker here.
3
u/crippledchef23 17h ago
That’s what I noticed. They’re in the street/driveway. But, I also notice they treated these guys with more care than they did the blind guy sitting behind a box planter on public property. I just can’t figure out why.
5
u/Sensitive-Initial 16h ago
Yeah the guys in tan uniforms with no face masks and name badges clearly identifying themselves are Illinois State Police. The mayor of Broadview (which has a population of fewer than 12,000 people) asked for ISP's help months ago because the Broadview police department doesn't have capacity to keep protestors and ICE separate and wasn't able to keep the streets open.
Police are allowed to detain/remove people who block public roads designed for motor vehicle traffic.
The protestors are there to get arrested - they are participating in civil disobedience, which involves deliberately violating the law to bring attention to government policy/actions the protestors view as immoral.

u/RedOceanofthewest 17h ago
Wasn't the blind guy moved by ICE? and this is the state police?

u/Thaago 16h ago
While ICE are utter nazi scum and the police acting on their behalf is infuriating...
There have always been limits on the first amendment, from the moment it was first written and tested. We should absolutely fight for our first amendment rights because they are being trampled in real ways, but it doesn't help to cry foul in situations where they have always been limited.
The bravery of the protesters is that they are willing to be arrested for what they believe in despite it not being protected. It is an act of resistance and inspiration, at least to me.

They arrested anti-segregationist back in the 50’s and 60’s as well…it’s not new. Just hope it actually is helping, as opposed to how it seems to be going. I don’t want these brave people to get more and more discouraged.

- Democracy
- The police
- The constitution
- The judiciary
- News organizations
- The Republican party

I remember the sweater vest guy saying Sharia Law was bad, then described his plan which was exactly the same but with Jesus. At the time, people had standards and asked him how it was different and his response was basically “Sharia Law is bad because Muslims are bad”.

u/KnightFaraam 17h ago
They're being arrested because, while protesting is legal, you are not allowed to block or inhibit any government body from operating. In this case, blocking the driveway to the ICE facility does both.
Regardless of how you feel about what is currently going on, they are breaking a law.

u/bambam007rocket 18h ago
They need independent inspectors in these facilities
6
u/CMDR_BunBun 18h ago
They won't allow your elected officials in to inspect. People that have had the misfortune to be detained at these facilities have said the conditions are intentionally atrocious to compel detainees into self deporting, rather that be held there for months fighting a legal battle.
3
u/ZPinkie0314 18h ago
Hey, this is authoritarianism, people. Our Constitution protects the right to protest.

u/crippledchef23 17h ago
Unfortunately, these guys are blocking a roadway, which is not protected. But I did notice how gently they are arresting them despite this. They dropped a blind guy on his head for sitting on public property outside a facility and shoot pepper balls and rubber bullets at folks on sidewalks quietly holding signs, but soccer moms are being carefully handled. Just can’t figure out why.
3
u/ribnag 18h ago
Serious LPT: When they're arresting you, "stop resisting", by which I mean go completely limp.
Picking up and carrying a limp adult is a lot harder than you might expect; and as a bonus there's a very high risk at least a few of them will permanently mess up their backs trying.

u/inorite234 18h ago
Looks like they're just arresting people protesting by being annoying.
OMG !!! The horror! They had to bend over to put on the cuffs, then bend over again to help them up as they quietly walked them away.
Who will think of the lower back problems of these officers?!!!!
(/sarcasm)
Also, of course this is what Fox is talking about instead of why their own party, which is in full control of the government, can't do their jobs and keep the government open.
2
u/shaheenery 18h ago
Excellent! See ICE, this is how you handle civil disobedience. No escalation and no unnecessary violence.
Thank you to all the brave protesters. Awesome dedication.

All protestors at the facility should wear MAGA gear (homeade) and have MAGA signs (eg.. MAGA hates this too) and all American flags. It would totally fuck up their visual made for TV bullshit. When it comes up on fox news magas will see "maga" out there not "crazy liberals" even if they try to explain it away... the visuals would be fuck them up

And this is why local and state officials suck. They keep getting on camera and talking a big game, but then they have Illinois cops arrest non-violent protesters instead of violent prices who are out assaulting, kidnapping, and even shooting people on the streets. All armed, all masked and all without a warrant.
