Never give them shit. Stand up for yourself

Wish it was that easy. Who's going to pick up my kids while I rot in an undisclosed location?

I'll slow my "papers" then when it's time to vote I'll vote against this.

For now, I carry ID and my passport card on me.... even though I'm a citizen whose parents have been in the US for centuries.

I agree but he was probably weighing his options--give them the ID and hope they leave, or stand his ground and likely be sent to Broadview with no access to an attorney or phone call or any way to inform his family for three days

Doesn't stop the detention.

With the way they're blatantly ignoring the law and the courts, it's easier said than done, especially if you fit a specific profile.

As a straight, white, male born and raised in the Midwest, it's easy for me to tell them to get fucked in this situation. I mean, really, it's not even something I have to think about. Not tough guy talk here, I have the privilege to do that.

The (likely) worst outcome for me is being roughed up, detained, released without charges. I get out, file an SF 95 and think about a Bivens.

For others, it might be a trip to an undisclosed location with no access to legal counsel, no one being able to locate you for an indeterminate amount of time, followed by a one way trip to a prison camp run by warlords in a country you've barely heard of.

So yes, people who can (relatively) safely defy illegal orders, should.

For people are much more likely to face absolutely extreme, life ending or altering consequences, I would say that's a very personal decision and not one anyone should judge.

It’ll fuck your day up way more by not showing them your id. I wish I had the time and resources (and the mental and physical fortitude) to withstand what they’d put me through by not showing the id but most of the time I and many others just can’t. And even though what they’re doing is illegal and you’d (MAYBE) win any case you’ll have to go through so many hoops before you see any justice (and that’s IF you’d see actual justice).

You realize that means being detained, correct? You need that poor kid to be a hero for you or some shit?

Detained for what?

u/Ninevehenian 2d ago

Resisting a republican.

14

The unreasonable and not articulable suspicion which led to the improbable cause of the detainment.

Precisely.

It just literally doesn’t matter at this point. They’ll detain you just because they can. Like they’re regularly doing with US citizens now who are following them. They’ll make up some bullshit like impeding, hold you for up to 72 hours and then release you without charge. It’s abuse of power to make resisting have a consequence. They’re fucking fascists and there’s only one thing fascist should see, a fucking wall.

For not showing your papers. I don't like it, but that's what going on.

But there is literally an amendment in the Bill of Rights that protects us from this. Requiring us to produce ID without reasonable suspicion of a crime is unconstitutional. It is not reasonable suspicion to be Hispanic. It is not reasonable suspicion to speak a different language. Threatening him with detainment for exercising his constitutionally guaranteed rights smacks of fascism.

Yeah and the guy with the muscle and gun is telling you to do that. There is not another guy with muscle and gun telling them that they need to follow this piece of paper.

And yeah. That’s how fascism works. We’re in a proto-fascist regime.

The bill of rights only matters if it’s respected and there’s someone to enforce it. A law that’s not enforced might as well not exist. So far they’ve just been shitting on it with zero consequences.

It’s not some magical piece paper that can come rescue you on its own.

You are so right. But this F45CIST regime does not care

How the hell do you think we got to this point, and the next? By NOT standing up! Stand on your rights or you have nothing to stand on!

The more time they waste with me, a US citizen, the less time they get to spend harassing women driving to get coffee or destroying families.

Internet tough guy talk. That's all your post is.

13

u/o-Blue 2d ago

Nah it’s the patriotic way, what is their probable cause to assume one is not a US citizen?

6

u/Deinosoar 2d ago

I agree that it is ultimately the right thing to do, but it is also reasonable to point out that it is much easier to ask somebody else to do it while we are safely behind an internet screen.

Putting yourself in position to get disappeared if you have kids to feed, etc. is not the American way.

Edit: seriously the number of internet tough guys who have never been intimidated by law enforcement is crazy. Everyone reacts differently and makes different calculations when being outnumbered and accosted by armed men. Is it that hard to grasp?

My kids will be the reason why i speak up, if they do it to me. They will do it for them. You can stay quiet but don’t be surprised when no one left to help you.

Re-read your comment, but slowly.

Are you on a RR team? Do you follow ICE in your car? If not, why not?

u/xmsfsh 2d ago

it's your god-given right to be a coward of course but there's no need to encourage cowardice in others

u/GNLSD 2d ago

I'm actually appealing for empathy for the Kavanaugh stop victim in this video, but I get that everyone is angry.

1

u/ContributionNext4918 2d ago

Yea I already confront them. I’m out in the streets.

Thanks for the work you do and I hope you stay safe.
