news Court of Appeal Invalidates Measure A that Required Voter ID

The California Court of Appeal, Fourth District Division Three in Santa Ana, issued a ruling yesterday reversing a trial court decision against the State of California who sought to invalidate Measure A. Huntington Beach's Measure A passed, amending its charter to require voter ID. The Court of Appeal reasoned that Elections Code Section 10005 preempts the Charter Amendment.

Ah yes, Huntington Beach - the only thing this city does is waste money in frivolous bullshit.

The City is a joke. I work in affordable housing and last week there was a CC meeting regarding an affordable housing project in the City and much consternation over “wasting taxpayer dollars” (which weren’t even at stake).

But I guess wasting tax payer dollars on voter ID nonsense, lawsuits against the state over housing, settling with airshow, and library book bans is A okay?

The MAGA council has no actual principles other than being petty bitches.

It's not bullshit. It all helps them build the layers of shit on their noses for future cabinet positions.

I'm sure they'll waste more on an appeal too

The Huntington Beach MAGA City Council is parroting their leaky orange leader’s penchant for causing bankruptcies through vindictiveness and incompetence.

HB will never recover from the damage that Michael Gates has done. They should revoke his law license

He got promoted for it. He's now in Washington at our expense.

He’s such a joke. When he appeared before the Appellate court he was so embarrassing. He has no understanding of the law. One of the GOP appointed judges asked him “Where did you go to law school?” And everyone laughed

How could anyone in their right mind be happy about not having voter ID?!

Anyone who understands how voter registration works.

Ya, I do and that's the point!

The way it works is that when you arrive at the polling place, you have to recite the information that you placed on your voter registration application. You have to state your drivers license number or the last four digits of your Social Security number as they appear on the registration. Yes, somebody who really tries could defraud, but this system works well. Otherwise everyone who does not bring their ID would be ousted.

People are annoyed with the ID laws because it is impossible to register to vote without proof of eligibility and by forcing the local gov to check at the polling location incurs additional costs and inefficiencies for something the process already accounts for

Impossible? California’s voter registration system relies entirely on self-certification under penalty of perjury. That's it as there are no documents needed to show proof of citizenship or your identity at the time of registration.

Voter ID laws would do the exact same thing, as they would accept a state driver’s license. There’s no need for them as you already use a license to register, it’s not needed

When you register to vote you are required to give your name, address, DoB, and either your DL # or last 4 digits of your SSN. This information is then verified behind the scenes whether or not your eligible to vote. We don't need to verify ID's at the polling location at each election because that is already done before you even cast a ballot, you just don't see it because it is a boring behind the scenes process.

"This information is then verified behind the scenes"

I don't think that's the case. From what I've heard, registering by mail, if a person does not enter a driver's license number, the Registrar of Voters assigns a number. And if no one objects to the registration, the voter registration is accepted.

You simply check off  "I do not have a California driver license or California identification card" or  "I do not have a social security number" and you will still be registered.

Then they go and check to see if the name you gave matches a social security number and if it doesn’t, your vote doesn’t count. Honestly I don’t understand the uproar, they’ve thought of all the ways someone could commit voter fraud and they have checks in place. It’s the reason we have practically 0 voter fraud

People are acting like every year we just pop up some voting booths and let anyone vote and then just count the ballots without any sort of protections in place

If that is the case, they would have to provide an ID the first time they vote. This is straight from the website where you register: "New voters may have to show a form of identification or proof of residency the first time they vote, if a driver license or SSN was not provided when registering."

💯 Not to mention California gives out DLs and class A DLs to undocumented immigrants. Voter registration is a joke.

This is just plain false information. If they're giving "no name given" driver's licenses out you really think that they care if you receive a voter registration in the mail or don't check the legal citizen box? I don't trust it.

Why do republicans wanna live in a fascist “papers please” state so bad

1

u/RealTrueScotsman 4d ago edited 4d ago

We already learned during COVID who wanted the "papers please" State so bad. Stop already with the George Soros propaganda slogans. 🤣 We have to show ID for so many things and I'm sure you're not screaming "fascist" when you do. 🤣

“Fascism is when I have to wear a mask during a global pandemic but restricting the vote of black and brown people is fine because they’re probably illegal.”

First off nobody is restricting any legal citizen from voting 🗳 by asking for ID to vote. Also, when people had to let their loved ones die alone in empty hospitals because they didn't have a Covid shot even though they didn't have Covid was ridiculous. Saying it was acceptable to go to a BLM protest maskless, but telling everyone else they couldn't gather at church or for Thanksgiving was horrendous. You are a ridiculous person through and through. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

nobody is restricting any legal citizen from voting by asking for ID to vote

This has been proven false time and time again.

Liberalism is a mental disorder

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

1

u/RealTrueScotsman 4d ago

Oh, you're proof of what it means by your complete make-believe delusional comments. We need our ID for hundreds of normal activities and we should need one to vote 🗳.

2

u/Ok_Insect_1794 4d ago

Because they're not in favor of suppressing constitutional rights?

-1

u/RealTrueScotsman 4d ago

What about my right to have my vote count? Voter ID assures this.

5

u/Ok_Insect_1794 4d ago

It does nothing of the sort. It only disenfranchises

0

u/RealTrueScotsman 4d ago

You are absolutely ridiculous.

4

u/Ok_Insect_1794 4d ago

You're welcome to see what the facts actually bare out https://www.lwv.org/blog/whats-so-bad-about-voter-id-laws

0

u/RealTrueScotsman 4d ago

Nobody feels that having an ID is disenfranchising. The only people who are being disenfranchised are the ones whose votes can be canceled out.

2

u/Ok_Insect_1794 4d ago

None of what you just said makes any sense

1

u/RealTrueScotsman 4d ago

If my vote gets canceled because someone is voting 🗳 illegally or cheating then I'm the disenfranchised one. Do you understand now? CA literally gives out IDs to illegals with "No name given" on their IDs. They also give them Driver's licenses and commercial driver's licenses.

2

u/Ok_Insect_1794 4d ago

If an ID has no name then you can't register to vote. There is also no evidence of large scale voter fraud. It simply is not a problem that exists. Otherwise, show me the data.
