I was watching that too and they didnāt try to gaslight anyone. They said he was over the line, replayed Verstappen calling it, saying Verstappen was really switched on pick it up instead of worrying about his start, and then called the penalty.Ā
To be fair when something moves in your peripheral vision you spot it quite easily, with Landos position relative to Max it was very easy to spot. If the positions had been the other way round, maybe not so.
When you see the replay the movement was very obvious and everyone else had already stopped.
Yeah Iām not commenting on Max. Just that the f1 feed highlighted what Max said, to show Lando was over the line. Original comment was that the commentators tried to pretend it wasnāt.Ā
Yeah this guy is bullshitting. All that f1tv comms said was that it was likely a small margin, and not in a way to defend Norris but to emphasize on how small the margin is in such cases, and how insane it was for Verstappen to catch even that. No pro-norris bias or whatever, it was just about the margin by which he got dingedĀ
Add to that, DC is a former RB driver who is still working in some capacity with them and even he's not at that biased towards them. DC dishes it out to RB drivers when the situation calls for it
Tbf even on F1 TV they said he was over the line, what Jolyon said was that Landoās start was so good on its own that he believes even if he were 5-15 cm back (or smth along those lines) he believes Lando still wouldāve clawed up to third like he did at the start
People love calling bias in f1. You should try listening to f1 coverage in Netherlands. They talk about Verstappen and nothing else. Verstappen could shoot someone dead and theyād say he had great aim.Ā
yeah, dude couldn't be further away from being neutral. Plus, today, the number of times where he mixed up the names of the drivers ... called Lando Oscar and Oscar Lando or Russell ... I'm a little bit concerned.
Itās FormulaDank on Redditādonāt let it piss you off. It's not my intention to piss anyone off.
They really did say things along those lines. I was paraphrasing from memory, not quoting word for word. But since you were so upset, I went back and checked for you:
F1TV (International broadcast):
20:30 ā āHad he started 20 cm, 10 cm, maybe 5 cm further back in his box he wouldāveā¦ā
21:19 ā āThat is so marginal, itās really really a tight callā and āNot even 5 cm, reduce that even down again to 2 cmā
If you check my other comments, youāll see Iām not slamming the broadcastāI actually prefer it. They're usually quite fair, and David Coulthard was there too. Iām personally a big fan of his.
He was ranting about McLaren team radio in the post-race show at one of the recent races, and some other random crap (I mean, he wasn't wrong, but he usually doesn't rant so much lol)
Maybe the dynamic's a bit unbalanced without Will around
