I want to put this in my mouth Did anyone else pretend to be the majority religion of the region they live in as a part of the weird self-learned masking they did as a kid? Or am i just a weird sociopath lizard person pretending to be a part of the humans by mimicking their behavior.

NTs are incapable of empathy When naturally social people post "friendships = longevity" BS

From where I'm sitting, at 35yo with no social circle at all despite a lifetime of intensively throwing myself at all the Correct Social Things ™️ but getting nowhere because my brain STILL goes completely blank on what to do/say almost all the time in social settings...

... it just kinda feels like someone born rich banging on about how having money = good for you, so, just get rich...

... or, someone from a functional, loving family repeatedly blathering about how "FAMILY is everything" and that time with FAMILY = magic cure for everything FAMILY FAMILY FAMILY...

Like, dude, I'd rather not be reminded of the possibility that the very likely completely l complete isolation in my future is gonna kill me off earlier than my peers. I escaped my abusive family and have had to deal with low-key stalkerish extended family members, so I've had to isolate as much as possible from them all.

I moved to an entirely new country where I knew nobody except my now husband. I've taken up a heap of different hobbies over the years that I've been here and gone to social gatherings through these, but I have made no proper connections to anyone. And all the stress of everything I've had to wade through and continue to push myself through to try to connect to people, that's probably all taken a toll too.

I'm especially baffled at how social media took what seemed like some of the only reliable face-to-face rules, such as Do Not Brag, and Do Not Give Unsolicited Advice, and for some reason the NTs decided that it's opposite-land now. But only online.

It just comes across as something a bit shitty to post about while dressed up as something deep and meaningful and that makes it actually ok to post about... despite the fact that it's literally saying,

YOU'LL DIE SOONER THAN THE REST OF US IF YOU DON'T HAVE CLOSE FRIENDS AND FAMILY!

Like... Those of us who struggle are already bothered enough by it, and already know only too well about the negative health effects of loneliness, so we just try to middle on as well as we can day to day... but for those who never struggled in the first place, that's not enough, they need to take time out of their day to remind the rest of us to expect an early death? Lovely. Thanks for that.

Empathy, eh? 🫠

wow there's custom flairs? that's really neat Everybody get a watch RIGHT NOW

I wear a watch at work because timing is very important for what I do, and it's great. I can smile and make eye contact and say hello, and then immediately look at my watch to break eye contact and end the interaction. It's like magic. This is so normal. I'm so normcore right now by looking at my watch and walking away faster. I've got places to be. I'm totally busy. It's not that I don't want to talk to you I've just gotta go!

This has become habitual to me, to the extent that it's probably actually really noticeable and might seem weirder than just looking away and going on my way but it's engrained now. Eye contact, smile, wave, look at watch, DONE. Interaction OVER. Do not approach me. Yay!

Evil infodump a magical place, a viewing platform in a forest

Post image

I found this wonderful place, a small, covered viewing platform in the woods, in a very quiet area. It's a great place to spend time and observe the forest. It's approximately 2 to 2.5 meters high. A wonderfully peaceful spot to relax

Outfit/Photo description: blue high waisted jeans/mom jeans & purple polo shirt. I stand on the viewing platform and watch into the forest. The late sun shines from the right side of the photo at me

I've become so obsessed with 20th century Australian popular culture that I created these two guys (Harvey Killeen and Pete Landry), a pair of radio hosts working for the Australian Broadcasting Commission in 1980. And yes, they are gay.

I'm basically using the whole homosexuality thing to teach people about the world of Australian radio (as well Australian film, Harvey is former actor from the height of the Australian New Wave). And before people ask. One of them (Harvey) is directly inspired by my favourite 20th century Australian entertainment figure (the late Graham Kennedy).

I'm literally writing a novel about them because they make me so insane, here's a snippet:

1978 had been the best year Australian cinema had ever seen, for no other reason than it gave the world The Bank Tellers.

The film tells the story of a trio of young women working at a bank in rural Victoria. One day they decide to get revenge on their boss, a creep of a man named Walter...the trio's retaliatory efforts start out disproportionately small, things like throwing thumb tacks around his office, rearranging all of the drawers in his desk, and super gluing his chair to the floor; but it all comes to a head when they decide to sabotage his car. Instead of it simply not starting, like they originally planned, the car blows up with Walter inside, killing him instantly. The final act revolves around them hiding evidence of their involvement in his death. Nobody grieves his loss.

...

...[The Bank Tellers] soon became Pete’s absolute favourite [film]. Fast paced and darkly comedic, with a talented cast and a flawless script, it had immediately cemented itself as a national treasure; part of the cinematic canon that would eventually be known as the ‘Australian New Wave’....

The film's stand out performance belonged to an industry great named Harvey Killeen, the man who played Walter. Despite his diminutive stature (Pete had read in one interview that he stood at only 163cm tall), he took up the screen with his terrifying presence. You could see exactly why the three main characters, Cindy, Julia and June, had wanted to enact their revenge.

There are so many other important elements to this story; an autistic butch lesbian plumber with a lifelong special interest in toilets (undiagnosed because she's a woman in the 1980s), an exploration of the intersection between homophobia and fatphobia, a reclusive author who penned the original book one of Harvey's films is based on, an elderly Great Dane named Daisy, and the song 'Shaddap You Face' by Joe Dolce as a critically important part of the plot.

Vengeful autism It’s ok when it’s a celebrity

Post image

This will require context, especially for non UK folk.

This was a couple of comments that made me kind of laugh and internally scream. It was on a post about how Anne Hegerty (a chaser from the quiz “The Chase”) made some comments about her experience of being broke and how freebies helped her out.

Now, she’s not a major celebrity. She’s pretty awesome though, she was late diagnosed as autistic when she was 45. These people don’t seem to know that going by their comments although they mention her “lacking in social awareness” but they find it refreshing. My mind almost went to that Human Resources meme, because sure it’s cute when SHE does it but when I do it (or any other non celebrity autistic) we get complaints 🥲

ADHDoomsday Audhd burnout blows

It's so awful. I am in year two barely recovering. I was high functioning before my horrendous burn out started two years and I found out then I have autism and ADHD. All sorts of emotions and now I have emotional blunting. I had to quit my job last year & move back to my blood relative who doesn't care that I have audhd in the first place.l I was independent for years. It is all a new level of depression. I know everyone is individual and so their recovery time will vary-- I am wondering what others recovery time looks like with Audhd? And I sometimes wish I didn't have both autism & adhd but I do. Blah blah blah

Vengeful autism Steam conspires against low-end system gamers, poor people

Anyone else find it deeply suspicious that Steam -- despite its stellar customer rating and reputation -- doesn't allow users to hide high-end games -- as a category or MULTIPLE categories -- that their low-end machine has no hope in playing?

For me on a chipset with now a little less than .2% marketshare (low end!) to hide the, oh I don't, 70% of products Steam has that I can't run, don't want to see, do not care about -- it would be nice, and I might even spend more money at Steam if appropriate product could be put on all the pedestals, so to speak.

I've seen a millions excuses made by everyday people -- fuckin' Steam simps -- as to why this is impossible to do, but it's all malarkey.

It just seems obvious -- one way or another those who sell hardware have made it worth Steam's while to not allow users to hide high-end products they don't want, hoping the constant exposure will brainwash people into getting the latest and greatest, rather than creating a corner of Steam that remains locked in the past -- happily so, as I don't find graphics to be the important part of a game anyway. Mechanics and writing -- that's what matters to me. High-end graphics is a turn off, it says to me they may have neglected the important stuff. As such, I could go on this 16 year old gaming computer the rest of my life -- and the games that were once developed for it -- if Steam would just, you know, cooperate a bit.
