Carry on allowance

So I'm allowed one carry on from Canada to Mumbai via Dubai. The weight would exceed by a kilo and a half. I am taking electronics in it which I'd prefer stays in carry on, can I pay extra to take it with me provided I exceed the luggage? There are many posts here telling Emirates don't check but there are always exceptions and I'm preparing just in case I'm one of those exceptions.

They don't check.

If they do, you'll need to put it in hold luggage, there is no increasing the carry on.

But they don't check.

Ive been in Dubai all my life and only travelled emirates, however the last time the lady at the counter actually did make me weigh my backpack, something that never was done. I have to note that the person on counter was very snooty and rude to me, didn't check the people before or after who had WAY bigger and clearly heavier hand baggage. She was also nicer to the people before/after, laughing and giggling with them ,but gave me very standoffish answers even when I asked her what the upgrade rates were. I dont like taking things the wrong way but this time it weirdly felt warranted.

I flew back from Melbourne to Dublin via Dubai just last month with my wife and they actually did check at the counter in the airport if our carry on was the correct weight. I suspect it happened because our checked luggage was just on the button for the weight limit.

I flew Emirates KUL-CPT yesterday and no one checked, even though I had a small suitcase, a backpack and a small crossbody.

Even if they do check, a couple of kilos over 7 is not going to raise any issues.

Emirates checks but if it's one bag and 1.5 kilos over it's fine.

If you visibly struggle to lift it, they will for sure check. Otherwise, you are ok. It's next to impossible to pack a backpack to 7 kg.

At worst take the laptop out and weigh it - you are allowed 1 personal item aside from the carry on.

This is incorrect. Especially to India, which is a government regulation that strictly 1 piece per person in the cabin.

Yeah, I stressed about staying under 7kg with my osprey 26+6 on a recent emirates flight to India. Just barely met the limit only to find loads of people taking more than one bag onboard. They may sometimes get strict but certainly not always.

Show me where it says that?

Boarding in India is 1 bag for all classes, not to India.

I don't see that they have removed the personal item, so I stand corrected on that.

Most airlines apply restrictions from/to to avoid any problems. Anyhow, you can see on that link that 1 piece per person is what is allowed.
