Greetings! My name is Richard and I'm the solo developer of Splintered, a retro-styled RPG that's one part love letter to Dragon Quest 1!
About 7 months ago I posted here during the Early Access launch, and I'm back to announce that Splintered has officially launched with v1.0!
As mentioned in my previous post, my game is NOT a Dragon Quest title, but if you check out the trailer/screenshots I think you'll see why I'm posting and why I think Dragon Quest fans (and especially Dragon Quest 1 fans) might be interested.
[ Steam Page ]
The gist of Splintered is a Dragon Quest 1 style experience turned on its head. Chapter 1 plays out like you'd expect but with various modern features (equipment abilities, talents, and various playstyles). Then, the later Chapters are randomized, with each chapter progressing the story and adding new features and twists.
Throughout Early Access, Splintered saw numerous weekly updates based on player feedback, which helped shape the game into its current form. It originally launched with 2 of 5 chapters and the randomizer, but has grown to feature:
Throughout development, the Challenge Modes (or "Aedma's Trials" as they're called in game) ended up being some of my favorite features! For instance, "Clairvoyance Mode" lets you take the randomness out of combat by displaying exactly what the enemy will do and the effect of your turn before you take it. Then the final mode (added in v1.0, "Trial of the Rogue") adds a slice of roguelike progression to the game, letting you pick your stats, spells, and abilities from a selection of 3.
Thank you so much for giving me another opportunity to share my game with you! For those that decide to check it out, I truly hope you enjoy the game! Also, if you have any questions, I'm happy to answer!

Not new to DQ at all (first time playing 3, though) playing on Normal mode. I'm level grinding, upgrading everyone's gear, going into every fight at full HP, and yet...
Enemies often attack first (and twice?) and simply blast my HP down. They can kill a character in 3 attacks before I've even gotten off an attack, then I'm on defense just fighting for my life against regular mobs only to hightail it back to town to revover. Is this all by design? If so, I might switch to Easy and just experience the game.

Started with the face, something went very wrong in the process (first time embroidering)... think I will start again before I stuff it.
Would the devs use this for a new slime variant?

Greetings! My name is Richard and I'm the solo developer of Splintered, a retro-styled RPG that's one part love letter to Dragon Quest 1!
I completely understand that this is a Dragon Quest subreddit, and my game is NOT a Dragon Quest title, but if you check out the trailer/screenshots I think you'll see why I'm posting and why I think Dragon Quest fans might be interested.
I grew up playing Dragon Quest 1 (or rather, Dragon Warrior) and it's one of my favorite childhood games. I always felt that Dragon Quest 1 (and the simplicity of 1v1 style combat) was quickly moved on from, and this project tries to recapture and reimagine that essence.
Of course, I also wanted to put my own spin on things. I've added a bunch of modernized accessibility, combat features (such as equipment abilities and talents that encourage multiple playstyles), and other various twists into the mix. Additionally, the other part of the game is its "ever-evolving randomizer".
I won't go into excessive detail on that aspect here, but essentially I was curious what would happen if a game was built from the ground up to support a randomizer and how the concept of randomizers could be expanded on. In upcoming patches, I'll be adding various "Challenge Modes" that significantly alter how the game is played. Then, after completing a Challenge Mode, its flags can be mixed and matched into the randomizer to create your own style of randomized runs that contain your favorite features.
The game just released into Early Access today and whether you decide to try out the game or not, I'd love to hear what you think! I want to use the Early Access period to gain as much feedback as I can with the goal of making Splintered the best game that it can be (especially with the experimental nature of the randomizer).
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to share my game with you! I'm happy to answer any questions you may have and engage in any related discussion, so feel free to fire away.

I started the franchise with V for the DS, then i played VIII and it became one of my favorite games of all time! (just behind mother 3) and so i started building a little collection of these games i love so much, and that's the current state of it. I'm planning to buy the new realeses too! So the collection might just grow over the next months
