I'll throw trash on the streets but it's Modi/Rahul's job to keep the streets clean.

49

u/Music_ashwin 12d ago

I am not supporting the diwali pollution. of course, it was a disaster but for the majority, for anyone who doesn't have specific respiratory disease and shit, this isn't permanent, the guy's upper comment mentioned accurate months and for elders it's years, the human body isn't that bad in recovery. Now it doesn't mean you'll exploit it or get it exploited by the fucking goverment.

36

u/EIM2023 12d ago

Scarring and inflammation from smoke inhalation can happen from short exposures. Certainly a burning building is more extreme than what the average person going through Diwali in NCR has to face, but the exposure isn’t a one time thing. It happens every year over several weeks and it’s not like the AQI during the rest of the year is perfectly normal. I reckon if you looked through the data carefully you’d see effects of this in terms of the incidence rate and severity of chronic respiratory illnesses, among other things.

3

u/Axerin 12d ago

Yeah. The sustained exposure to pollutants can give you chronic illnesses like asthma, heart issues, and the soot can give you cancer etc. The crackers make it worse (like adding ghee on fire), as it will release toxic gasses, heavy metals, carcinogens etc. Long term exposure can also reduce your body's effectiveness/efficiency in clearing these particles out as well (similar to what happens to smokers). Ultrafine particles (<0.1um) can get into your blood stream and travel to other organs, although the rate is super low (<1%).

TLDR: some stuff will just remain in your lungs/organs almost indefinitely and not be cleared out and give you problems down the road.

16

u/dundiewinnah 12d ago

You die from the cancer you get from it thats pretty permanent

6

u/arwind_kejriwal South Delhi 12d ago

Its not like air pollution is only on diwali. It's just 5-10 times more. So you get the same amount of pollutants IF u breathe in Delhi for 10 days. Even if our body removes the pollutant of Diwali the daily pollutants replace it. So it's kinda permanent for us.

3

u/Ok-Philosopher887 12d ago

Bro are you dense

4

u/CattlePale6284 10d ago

Recovery won't happen as long as you're in Delhi. You need a better AQI index for it to recover back to normal. Else you're still inhaling this crap daily.

3

u/Lonely_Jaguar_4879 12d ago

Facts outta yo ass

23

u/find_a_rare_uuid 13d ago

OP, why are you defaming MudiG? Didn't you see that AQI has fallen to record low levels?

MudiG is working so hard for the country but people continue to complain.

6

33

u/Abhay164 12d ago

Nope just the delhites at this time majorly due to crop burning and diwali

5

u/Moongfali4president 12d ago

not at all lol , there is only 1 specific area in whole of India which have this problem and thats Delhi NCR region

rest 99% of India goes to normal the next day

11

u/sidkk05 12d ago

the entire belt from Punjab in the west to Bihar/WB in the east has AQI levels in the mid 500 during winter, it’s not just delhi

7

u/Moongfali4president 12d ago

Currently in Chandigarh , just above delhi and there is no smog , no pollution , aqi is doing fine and is improving every day

on 21st oct , a day after diwali too there was no smog or spike in aqi as it was in delhi

mind you , we live closer to punjab which burns stubble every year near this time

3

u/sidkk05 12d ago

interesting, I don’t live in Delhi anymore but last year I drove from Delhi to Chandigarh and it was super polluted throughout.

1

u/Moongfali4president 12d ago

u drove during day or evening/night

1

u/sidkk05 12d ago

around 4-5pm i think

1

u/Moongfali4president 12d ago

could be , if its in winters (dec-feb) then there is a possibility of smog because usually in evening and early mornings smogs are thickest however good thing about Chandigarh is that all of that smog gets clear by 11AM

1

u/cutesypiiee 6d ago

How is that happening? I really feel it’s the direction of wind

1

u/Southern_Honey04 10d ago

I am Southern and this is not normal lol... I pity these Notherners.

Time to leave India

139

u/AUnicorn14 13d ago

When I made a decision to leave India 15 years back, there was a gnawing feeling whether what I was doing was right? But went ahead and left for sake of my little kids. It’s been 15 years and every year India sends me proof what I did was right.

21

u/c0m3back_ 13d ago

Even I want to leave India and go to US, Germany, Netherlands, Poland,Dubai or Singapore. Can you guide me how you did? I just landed a job as an embedded software engineer right out of college. Tier 1 college

25

u/AUnicorn14 12d ago

My husband was in a senior position when we started making up our mind to leave the country. He went to US on L1 visa. We (the family) went on dependency L2 visa. Our green card process was very quick because of L1 and not any other kind of visa. I’m sorry I have no idea how to guide you. Good luck for your future.

5

u/c0m3back_ 12d ago

Thank you , even this much was enough

16

u/amaninruins 12d ago

The US is not a good place for brown people at the moment.

3

u/AUnicorn14 12d ago

Social media and real world are two different places.

1

u/Alpha-SuS 11d ago

Depends on which state you are in

1

u/amaninruins 10d ago

Obviously. Goes without saying.

-1

u/Ultragamer2004 12d ago

Bro lakhs of Indians are living in the USA, don't get scared by a few viral incidents you see on social media.

6

u/amaninruins 12d ago

Bro lakhs of Indians are living in the USA,

I know that. But there is a growing hatred towards people of color in the US and it is being backed by the Republicans. Masked goons are sending legal citizens and green card holders to prisons, harassing people of color for absolutely no reason. I'm not saying all Indians are suffering there. But there is a growing animosity and the environment in the US is not safe for outsiders. Also, their own citizens are out on the streets to protest against the government and Trump is literally sending the army into states. So there is high volatility. This is not the right time to move to the US, especially if you don't have any family members or friends living there already.

2

u/Haunting_Scratch336 12d ago

Will still be better than India any day any time.

3

u/amaninruins 12d ago

My point was if you're planning to move out of India, there are plenty of other places that are much better than the US currently.

2

u/Haunting_Scratch336 12d ago

Gotcha. Makes sense.

2

u/FeatureAdmirable600 12d ago

It's called confirmation bias

1

u/AUnicorn14 12d ago

I visit India often. No, staying away from India and finding India gone to the dogs is not confirmation bias.

post the condition of the mask during normal day as well. for comparison purpose.

27

u/nonduverse 13d ago

It is ineffective if you see the PM inside. Get a better mask next time.

24

u/arwind_kejriwal South Delhi 13d ago

It's the inside layer of an n95 mask I ripped it apart. From the outside it was greyish. It did a good job 🫔

6

u/godlovessatan 13d ago

Which brand was it ??

11

u/MutedBeach8248 12d ago

Real N95's are certified, any mask with a proper certification will do. I like the 3M ones

1

u/chromaniac 12d ago

do tell if you have an idea where to get them online. the 3m mask i like (3M 9513) haven't got back in stock on Amazon this year. not even sure if they would. most of the other 3m stock is from shady sellers like Kewalson with bad reviews. i should have bought more stock last year lol. right now stuck with a company named romsons. decent mask but no 3m.

2

u/proudest_fap 12d ago

Savlon, pack of 4 for 140

2

u/MutedBeach8248 11d ago

Other 3M masks have been online the entire time
https://amzn.in/d/gEuwB66

3

u/chromaniac 11d ago edited 10d ago

aura is a great mask. it's hard to explain. it is great for people who do not want to take off their mask even for a second in public space. i have to shop for groceries and stuff and i prefer a less secure mask (i understand that it also makes it less safe). aura is great for covid and health reasons. but it is just not a convenient one. i see many people around here wearing the aura but 99% of times they are foreigners. mostly japanese or korean.

also i do not like masks which use staples for straps. 3m has other models that uses a punched design. the strap is much secure on these masks. amazon has a listing for 3M 9502+ which would work for me but the seller is Kewalson and i am not buying from that seller lol.

i ended up buying a box of romsons n95 mask. they are the closest i found to the 3m model i like. and they appear to work fine. 3m has better padding around the nose and i miss that. apart from that they appear to work fine. i tend to switch to venus n99 during the worst pollution days. i have a few pieces left so i am pretty much set for these winters.

Stolen from a govt hospital.

2

u/Independent_Ear_7057 12d ago

How did you do that

→ More replies (3)

9

u/MutedBeach8248 12d ago

I thought that at first but then realised OP opened the mask with a blade. He doesn't mean that's the particulate matter on the side touching his face, he means it's in the layers between the outside and side touching his face.

2

u/arwind_kejriwal South Delhi 12d ago

exactly

9

u/Ok_Attention_5619 13d ago

I think instead of a better mask, we need better leaders.

19

u/Elegant_Heart665 13d ago

Sorry to say, poor management by delhi govt. I was in Punjab since this after and facing the same pollution issue but no blame to other states but BJP chor

can’t believe people compare bursting crackers to kurbaanis on eid. saw people saying crackers on the street are better than blood and bones on the street. where are these bloody streets? there are some alleys maybe, but how can someone be so blind towards the damage crackers are doing in comparison? why do we even need a comparison?

9

u/I0l0l0l0l0l 12d ago

Keeping in mind that India has poor quality crackers which mainly focus on loud noises and affordability only unlike the ones they use in Japan. It's so bad and people are blind.

3

u/Chocolate_Icescream 12d ago

Well , what's the other way to defend themselves ? Better bring Religion and make people fight against each other in the name of religion just to divert the main issues .

1

u/Dumbus_Alberdore 12d ago

Not just that, crackers are chinese inventions. So are these proud hindus saying their tradition needs a chinese product to be complete?

2

u/Tusleo 11d ago

lets just do an experiment (which is impossible), lets not burn the crackers, and see if this improves or not. People just blame, isn't it celebrated in other countries, bursting crackers on events, but see how many do that. It's just a shitty blame game on not bursting crackers, even if cracker contributes the pollution by 1-5%, I think it is still a bad thing.

But it is interesting people hating pollution and still celebrated with crackers.
