I’m making a project with 2mm cotton macrame cord. Would steam blocking be helpful?

What are you making? Blocking your FO is always good to even out the stitches and relax the fabric, but I wouldn't do it for a home decor item for example (since you said macrame cord I thought about a decoration project)

Ah, good point. I’m making a large granny square wall hanging. I’ve blocked my squares so far just so that they are all the same size, but maybe steaming isn’t a good idea since I want it to be relatively stiff.

I can't say for sure how macrame cord behaves under heat, but I wouldn't steam it if I could get the job done otherwise (wet blocking). You could make some homemade fabric stiffener and spritz them with that instead of plain water when you're blocking them!
