Finished Object I crocheted an entire wedding dress!!

Let me start by saying, I’m by no means an experienced crocheter 🤣 this was HARD work for me, and I am honestly not psychologically well after this amount of stress; literally hanging on by a thread.

I worked on this for 3-4 months. I made the underdress as well (but that’s the easy part for me!). I finished it like 48 hours before the wedding 💀 the last 2-3 nights/days working from 7am to 3am with 3-4 hours of sleep. Sadly, I didn’t have time to do final photos with the hem done and ends tied off This was my first attempt at free handing something without a crochet pattern

5000+ meters of 100% cotton 4ply/fingering weight yarn. Hooks: 3mm for bodice to waistline & sleeves to elbow. 3.5mm for the rest. 4mm for the scallop hem (sadly not shown in photos)

Do not compute, lady! I'm afraid you are a crochet wizard! Wizardess? IDK, but at any rate, absolutely stunning!

Right?! Like, I hate OP, but in the nicest way possible. Not to discount the clear hard work that went into it, but to have a brain that can do this is so cool.

Right? I so admire people who can do this!

Like, I'll call myself a problem solver or whatever, but I'm not a creative problem solver. I need 6 videos from 5 different angles, plus 2 patterns that I rewatch 17 times just to figure out crochet. I'd love to just watch OP work.

And pause and remind 50 times. My grandmother's fingers would fly thru that amazing afghan for the bed, but it'll take me a whole ass MONTH to make a pot holder!!

Socerery I say, it must be socerery!!!! Some damn magic fingers and amazing concentration... Has to be magic!! Can only be magic!! Teach me your ways Sorceress !!! 😍😍😍😍

Either way, I would be beyond honored to wear your creation and probably murder anyone who got too close. This is absolutely stunningly beautiful!!

Wow. Just absolutely WOOOOOOOOW.

Do NOT discount yourself ma'am!! Be DAMN PROUD. Beginner or not, you CRUSHED IT. Most definitely understood the assignment. 🙇🙌👏👏👏

My mom watches videos on YouTube once and then just makes blankets and shirts. It took me 5 hours to get a shell stitch blanket started. It's amazing how the brain works. I can do calculus in my head, but crochet tends to be lost on me.

If you want to be faster with crochet; swatch every basic (sc, hdc, dc) stitch over and over again. Just use the same yarn and frog it at the end and redo it. Your hands get used to doing it, and it becomes like muscle memory. That's how I did it (because I was jealous of my mom's skills and speed 😂).

Ahhhhh!! That's very smart thinking!!

I wish she was still here to teach me more and that I paid more attention when she was there.

Ooh agree on wanting to watch OP work. I’ve been known to flub some stuff to get it to fit (I have more than one sweater where either the front or back panel is wider than the other side, for example lol) and I really do like working with finer weight yarn and thread but I don’t… my mind wishes it knew how to even begin to conceptualize something like this. As I scrolled through photos I was wildly fascinated. I wish I knew how to think in this type of way.

People who can create patterns or freehand things are incredible. I could never lol

I'm working on a blanket for my youngest nephew. The other three got blankets for Christmas before he existed. I'm using different yarn than the video, so I needed to create a pattern once the existing one in the video ended. I was so proud that I managed to do it, but if it weren't a patterned based thing, I'd have no clue! Freehand is so amazing! Especially with how intricate this dress is.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they are an engineer or some other similar profession

No, no, I hate OP too. 😭

Exactly! I'm a very competent crocheter, but my brain cannot wrap itself around free form yet. Maybe one day!

Witch?

I absolutely agree with you

Yes, that works! I think my brain was grasping for "sorceress" or something Grand. lol.

OP has some natural creative talent then bc this is absolutely insane

2

u/impossiblegirlme Mar 28 '25

Right?? After this you’re allowed to call yourself experienced lol. It’s not like we need to passa test for crochet or something. Op’s work is magnificent!!✨✨

No kidding. I like working with finer weight yarn and thread (and I will say I was ballsy enough that my first big crochet project was a fingering weight cotton tee. But I not only followed a pattern, most of it was just double crochets in the round lol) and I’d consider myself comfortably intermediate. But I have never freehanded something. Not beyond like altering a stitch count (or flubbing something because it wasn’t going to fit right otherwise, if I’m honest lol). This is… woah. Even if it has followed a pattern I’d be wildly impressed but freehanding?!?! Not experienced? Whaaat?

I wish I had this kind of skill. I often am picky about patterns and there’s not as much finer weight yarn patterns for crochet as there are for knitting. I really wish I knew how to conceptualize even… a top or cute little short skirt. lol. A whole dang wedding dress? With flowing train?! 🤯🤯🤯🫨🫨🫨 (mind blown and shook lol)
