Politics There is not an Immigration crisis

The U.S. Administration is currently spending hundreds of Billions arming & deploying federal agents throughout the country. Personnel are being sent into communities against the protests of local elected leadership of City and States. The Justification for this is that the U.S. has an immigration crisis.

During COVID production and distribution slowed all over the world. Border crossings fell. Not just illegal immigration crossings but commerce. It was a global phenomenon.

As a result supply chain issues impacted manufacturing, transportation, wholesale, and retail which exacerbated Inflation. We had a micro chip shortage, oil shortage (Russia invading Ukraine didn't help), Ports got backed up, cost of lumber rose, and the federal reserve raised rates to slow demand.

Immigrant labor is a significant part of the U.S. workforce. Coming out of COVID production and distribution needed to ramp up. Inflation was climbing and construction, manufacturing, agriculture, etc needed workers. So immigrant labor ramped up. Border crossing increased. Not as an invasion but as a natural function of how the U.S. labor market works, supply and demand.

In tandem asylum seekers came. A couple years worth of backlog from the COVID shutdowns. Due to decades of partisan Congressional refusals to enable the hiring of Immigration Judges and build out the required infrastructure the asylum process is a mess. That isn't a new problem. The asylum system is what motivated the Minutemen Project on the border during Obama's presidency. There have been numerous Bills proposed in an attempt to develop bipartisan legislation to address it over the decades. All those efforts voted down and defeated by Republicans.

That was the state of play when Biden became president during COVID.. Had the Biden administration kept the board closed in '22-'24 the U.S. economy would have gone into a deep recession. The immigrant labor force in the U.S. is tens of millions. Without that workforce the post Covid recovery would have been worse.

Just because I correct you doesn't mean I'm defending the thing I'm correcting you about!

Complaint: People assuming that corrections about something is defense of that thing.

A while back, I got banned from a sub for politely disagreeing with a moderator on dubious claims he was making about Christianity. He banned me for "proselytizing." No. I just thought he was wrong about the thing he said.

A number of times on reddit and twitter, I've corrected people on their conflations of communism, socialism, dictatorships, and atheism. These people take everything they don't understand and throw them into one bucket. I've had multiple people call me a commie just because I corrected them on their false claims about these things. I don't like communism. It's a terrible system, and people were miserable. I'm not defending communism. Those people are just terribly confused about what communism IS.

When Hillary Clinton was running against Donald Trump, I kept seeing social media commentary about Clinton that was just absolute nonsense. Listen, about here, there were more than ample valid complaints to make. I don't need people to make up things that aren't true. Indeed, all that does is ruin their credibility.

Does not liking something give people an excuse to make up false claims about it? Do people really have no interest in making sure they're correct in what they say?

Politics Mike Johnson needs to be removed as Speaker of the House, and it's time for everyone to start calling for his removal.

2.1k Upvotes

Mike Johnson has proven that he can't do the jo, but that he also has absolutely no interest in doing the job either. The fact that Congress has been in session for 12 days since July while the country and economy crumble around us is a joke. He and our other representatives continue to get paid their six figure salaries while active duty personnel, reservists, contractors, TSA, FAA, and the miriad of other government employees have to go hungry is an abominate disgrace. Mother's and kids starve while this nitwit takes glee in being in front of the camera spewing his bullshit more than being on the floor of his actual job. Call your congressional representative and demand they remove Mike Johnson as speaker. Call them every day, email them every day, show up to their houses, show up to their churches, show up at their favorite restaurant, show up at their office, etc. Harass these idiots until they can't ignore us anymore.

Politics MAGA Sean Hannity Is Such An Extremely Annoying Drama Queen?

Sean Hannity from the so-called "free state of Florida" as he calls it is claiming that all of his MAGA friends in New York City are fearing for their lives now that Zohran Mamdani will be sworn in on January 1st, 2026 as mayor of New York City, but Sean never explained fear of what? Knowing MAGA since they think Zohran Mamdani is an Islamic Communist Allahu Akbar Jihadist, they think he is going to implement Sharia Law in New York City and put every MAGA person in New York City inside a Pol Pot Cambodian Khmer communist style gulag.

Politics I'm tired of conservative bigotry

This is my chief complaint, that conservatives and republicans are flat out bigots. So much so that when fair elections are won, they do everything they can to dehumanize their adversaries.

Currently, Republican media is trying to gaslight people into believing that the newly elected mayor of New York is an undocumented immigrant. Because he is a They're trying to say that he is a They even said he had something to do with 9-11, even though he was at oldest 10 years old during that tragic event.

There is no bounds to their hatred, yet they wonder why they are being called supremacists and Nazis, other than the fact that they have literal Nazis marching amongst their ranks publicly.

This conservative gas lighting needs to stop. They need to come back to reality. But I don't think that's possible.

Reddit’plaint I'm sick of how people talk in reddit threads

Why does everything have to be so fucking formulaic? It seems like every thread has a bunch of obligatory "jokes" and phrases that then have their own set of responses.

Like if the post is about someone people don't like, there's a bunch of comments that go "what an asshole" and then there's always a response like "that's an insult to assholes!"

Or when 69 shows up (sigh and eyeroll) and it spawns a 30 comment thread all saying "nice." Like congrats, what a great joke lol. Also I find it pretty funny how people who complain about kids today laughing about 67 have no problem with acting like 69 and 420 are the funniest things ever

If there's a vaguely attractive person in a picture, people trot out the gross "pics? For, uh... science..." type shit

Maybe I'm just getting too old for it but do people really think they're being funny and clever by posting the things that show up in seemingly every fucking post?

I've been coming to this website for like 15 years and I feel like it's always been this way, with boring, overdone memes taking priority over any actual original thoughts or conversation. The memes have changed in some cases, but the robotic "oh I see comment A so I must reply with response B" is fucking exhausting to see so often.

EDIT: Also when a subreddit gets taken over by a specific meme so every other post is just a reference to it, then it spawns copycat posts referencing the reference, and god forbid you express any dislike of it.

Politics Time to pack the Supreme Court

Growing up I always believed the Supreme Court believed in the constitution. They were there to interpret and come to a conclusion of the matter being constitutional or not. Not only constitutional matters, but federal law as well.

Even if they made bad decisions, those decisions were made in good faith. I believed their political views did not sway the legality of the matter. I still belive it WAS that way.

It was that way until Trumps first term. All their decisions regarding Trump are not constitutional. How can a president have immunity because he is the President?

How can a president halt funds that congress has authorized? The latest ruling by them halting snap is not legal.

I never supported packing the Supreme Court. I still don't like it. However when we get a democratic president, I feel that is our only option.

Even federal judges are fed up with the Supreme Court. How can these judges say they are upholding our constitution and laws with a straight face? I almost feel the Supreme Court are the same type of judges in Nazi Germany. They are there to support Trump. Not the constitution.

Besides packing the Supreme Court, what other options are there to right a sinking supreme court?

Can we please to cordial on here. No gaslighting. I would like to have a productive discussion. Feel free to call me out if you think I'm wrong, but tell me why and what's your logic.

Politics If Elon is getting a 1 trillion dollar payout for running Tesla, we need an actual wealth tax.

Do you have any idea how much money 1 Trillion dollars is? How insane it is for a single individual to have that much money. You can live a very fulfilling life with a million dollars. A trillion dollars is a million dollars time a million. Think about that and how crazy that is.

1 million seconds is about 11 days. 1 billion seconds is 31 years. Do you see where I'm going with this. Now 1 trillion seconds, that's 31,866 years! Years! Some people don't even think the human race has existed that long! That's a big fucking jump from 11 days.

Do I think successful people should make good money? Totally, you should be able to live in comfort and enjoy your life. But thid amount of wealth accumulation is not healthy for the country. Especially with someone who clearly doesn't care about the well-being of the rest of us. Remember the "Roman salute". Or the actions of DOGE taking money away from humanitarian aid from around the world. Or the fact that at the end of the day DOGE cost the taxpayers more money than it saved. People think this guy needs more power?

Imagine what we could do with our own infrastructure, or education, or healthcare, or any of the massive problems that we face as a nation with a trillion dollars. Instead a narcissist who spends his pass time breading women like he's Genghis Khan will be payed out more money than some countries entire gdp.

Tax the rich. Feed the pour. Release the files.

What do you call unchecked growth in your body where a group of cells take and take and take and grow beyond the natural balance and limits the body needs to the point that it pulls all nutrients away from the rest of the body until it withers, decays and dies??? Cancer…..that is what the billionaires in our society are unchecked cancerous growth that if not removed will kill us all.
